Angels Have Faith in Infielder Kyren Paris as Guardians Come to Anaheim
Despite a rocky launch in Double- A, Los Angeles Angels infielder Kyren Paris has been promoted to the big leagues and is poised for significant playing time as the Angels host the Cleveland Guardians in Anaheim,Calif., on Friday.
Paris’ unanticipated Promotion
Paris was called up on May 9 due to a string of injuries in the Angels’ infield, including a recent elbow injury to starting shortstop Zach Neto. Despite hitting just.091 with no homers in Double- A, Paris’ promotion highlights the Angels’ critical need for infield depth. In 11 games with the Angels, Paris has hit.138 with one home run, which came in Wednesday’s 2- 1 victory over the Houston Astros.
Manager’s Confidence
” The kid has that in him,” Angels director Ron Washington said.” He is young; he is still learning. But when he realizes what he can do, he is going to be a good baseball player. And right now, he is in the right place to learn how to play the game.”
Looking Back and Ahead
Paris had a solid season last year in Double- A, hitting.255 with 14 homers and an.810 OPS, giving the Angels confidence in his potential despite his slow start this year.
” I suppose things have been going really good,” Paris said.” I have been learning a lot and just continue to work and improve on my game. We’ve an incredible coaching staff and a fantastic group of guys around me. So it’s been special to just be in this terrain and keep getting better.”
Pitching Matchup
Left- hander Patrick Sandoval( 2- 6,4.59 ERA) will start for the Angels. Sandoval has a 1- 2 record with a2.96 ERA in five career starts against Cleveland. He’ll face left- hander Logan Allen( 5- 2,4.91 ERA) of the Guardians. Allen has not allowed a run in his last two starts, totaling 12 scoreless innings.
Allen’s Recent Form
Allen’s recent performances have been particularly impressive. After taking a line drive off his back from Chicago’s Tommy Pham, Allen has thrown 12 consecutive scoreless innings over his past two games.
” He is such a bulldog,” Guardians director Stephen Vogt said.”( Catcher David Fry) was joking with him when we were on the mound. He said, ‘ Hey, last time you got hit, you dominated. Let’s do it again.'”
What is Coming
The Angels will look to build on their recent success and see if Paris can make a significant contribution, while the Guardians aim to continue Allen’s band of strong performances. As both teams gear up for the series, the spotlight will be on these arising players and their impact on the game.
