NYCFC Trying to End Second 3-Match Slide of Season Against Orlando
NYCFC began the season with a difficult start, facing three consecutive losses. Nevertheless, they made an impressive comeback, being defeated only twice in their following 13 games. Their impressive performance bumped them to the third spot in the rankings of the Eastern Conference.
Recent Struggles
But now, NYCFC is facing another tough period. A second three-match losing streak has pushed them back down the standings. As they prepare to host Orlando City on Friday, NYCFC hopes to break this losing spell.
NYCFC’s Performance
During their strong run from March 16 to May 31, NYCFC went 9-2-2, scoring at least two goals in eight of those games. Unfortunately, they have hit a rough patch again. On June 14, they lost 3-2 to the Columbus Crew despite taking an early lead. In their last two games, they failed to score in road losses to the Los Angeles Galaxy and Nashville SC.
Coach Nick Cushing’s Thoughts
“We’re frustrated with the results and 100 percent not content,” said NYCFC coach Nick Cushing. “But it’s been a good opportunity to really feel and see when we’re good and when we win, and also when we’re not so good and why we don’t win. I think ultimately, the two things we’ve been good at have been the intensity that we play at and the amount of attacking football that we’ve created.”

Orlando’s Situation
While NYCFC’s earlier success gave them a buffer, Orlando City is still trying to secure a playoff spot. Currently, they are in 10th place but tied with ninth-place Atlanta United on points.
Orlando’s Recent Performance
Orlando broke a 0-3-2 skid with a 4-2 home win against the Chicago Fire last Saturday. Facundo Torres scored twice, and Luis Muriel added a penalty kick. Despite almost blowing a three-goal lead, Orlando managed to secure the victory, even though they allowed 12 shots on goal and 19 shot attempts.
Looking for Consistency
Orlando is now aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time this season and their fourth road win of the year.
Coach Oscar Pareja’s Views
“We had a lot of positive things,” Orlando City coach Oscar Pareja said. “We scored four goals. We started seeing individuals improve their performances. The collective obviously looks much better.”
Key Players
Santiago Rodriguez is leading NYCFC with seven goals and six assists this year, making him a crucial player for their attack. On the other side, Duncan McGuire has six goals for Orlando, leading their efforts in front of the net.
Both teams are looking to overcome their recent challenges and secure a win, making Friday’s match a crucial one for both sides.
