Don’t look now, but you can bet on who will win the 2024 NBA Summer League. The NBA Summer League odds are officially live at online betting sites, with the Las Vegas league tipping off this week.
The Golden State Warriors enter the Summer League as the betting favorites, but this type of betting market is inherently volatile.
Beyond the actual teams, bettors will want to gauge the young talent – particularly incoming rookies. Most of the top picks from the 2024 NBA Draft are expected to participate, while some of last year’s rookies are also looking to make an impression.
Should you back the Dubs, or are there some other teams worth betting on? With incoming rookies changing the NBA betting landscape, I’ll take a close look at the field and help you decide how to bet this summer.
2024 NBA Summer League Championship Odds
The first step before placing any actual bets on the NBA Summer League is to check out the odds. Bet365 is the only site I’ve seen that offers bets for which NBA team will win the Summer League title, so they make sense to help us get the ball rolling.
2024 NBA Summer League Odds | 2024 NBA Summer League Odds |
---|---|
Golden State Warriors +600 | Utah Jazz +700 |
Memphis Grizzlies +800 | Houston Rockets +1000 |
Minnesota Timberwolves +1000 | Charlotte Hornets +1600 |
Philadelphia 76ers +1600 | Boston Celtics +1800 |
Cleveland Cavaliers +1800 | Orlando Magic +1800 |
Indiana Pacers +2000 | Sacramento Kings +2000 |
Washington Wizards +2000 | Atlanta Hawks +2500 |
Portland Trail Blazers +2500 | Toronto Raptors +2500 |
These aren’t all of the available NBA Summer League odds, but this list showcases every participating squad with odds of +2500 or better. If you want odds for all 30 NBA teams, head to Bet365 or shop around online for alternative pricing.
In the eyes of the top online betting sites, however, the other NBA teams I haven’t listed are rather unlikely to vie for the championship.
Of course, if one of the other teams does stand out, perhaps they’ll make the cut when I look at the best overall value bet for this market. Either way, this is the NBA Summer League we’re talking about, so literally anything can happen.
That means virtually every single team is in play, although we should still pay extra close attention to the teams with the best NBA betting odds for the Summer League.
With that, let’s take a pit stop and gauge why the Dubs are the top favorites, and then see what other contenders stand out this summer.
Why Are the Golden State Warriors the Betting Favorite?
Based on the NBA Summer League odds the Warriors have, you’d think Steph Curry is about to show up. Unfortunately, the Dubs as we once knew them have completely changed, and they certainly won’t be putting any of their established stars on the floor this summer.
That, and Chef Curry is busy on the hardwood at the 2024 Paris Olympics. You can always bet on the men’s Olympic basketball odds if you want, though.
Your main focus might be whether or not you should bet on Golden State to bring home the 2024 NBA SL title, though.
I can see it to a certain degree, as the Dubs will have proven youngsters such as Jonthan Kuminga, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Brandin Podziemski. Kuminga exploded in his third year with the team, producing 16.1 points per game and carving out a key spot in the starting five.
Podziemski was also quite impressive as a rookie, and was ultimately a big reason why the franchise felt comfortable moving on from Klay Thompson.
That trio doesn’t sound super dangerous when compared to the rest of the league, but that’s actually a total stack job in the NBA Summer League.
Nobody is standing out as a true betting favorite, but when you look at their talent and experience from a high-level perspective, it’s easy to see why the Warriors are the team to beat.
Top 2024 NBA Summer League Contenders
As noted, a team with +600 odds really isn’t a legit betting favorite. I like Golden State plenty, but there are a ton of teams that offer favorable odds in this market.
Here are three more that stand out as viable 2024 NBA Summer League contenders.
Utah Jazz +700
If we’re talking about teams that are bringing a good amount of talent to Las Vegas, I can’t leave out the Utah Jazz. It just so happens they also have the second best odds to win the 2024 NBA Summer League championship.
Utah is bringing a bunch of exciting prospects to play, led by franchise point guard Keyonte George and stud center Walker Kessler.
If those two weren’t enough, the Jazz also have prospects such as Brice Sensabaugh, Taylor Hendricks, and rookie draft picks Cody Williams, Isaiah Collier, and Kyle Filipowski.
Filipowski has been famous for all of the wrong reasons, so he is surely hoping to give people something new to talk about.
Williams was a fine get for the Jazz at #10 in this year’s NBA Draft, and he may very well be the most interesting player of theirs on display this summer.
Regardless, Utah has talent for days and has to be seen as a clear threat to win this thing.
Memphis Grizzlies +800
Another team bursting with talent going into Las Vegas is the Memphis Grizzlies. No, they won’t have Ja Morant on hand, but they still have tons of useful bodies.
Rookie big man Zach Edey is undeniably the highlight, and he’s already left a strong impression during some pre-Las Vegas Summer League action.
Edey should shine – and potentially dominate – in Las Vegas, but he’s not alone. GG Jackson, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Jake LaRavia may not be household names, but they got tons of experience in The Association last year.
These young players proved they belong in the NBA to some degree, and they’ll hope a deep NBA Summer League run further aids their plight to carve out permanent spots at the next level.
Houston Rockets +1000
I could list several NBA Summer League squads that have gobs of talent, but then I’d get close to rattling off just about every team.
Instead, I’ll wrap up my top title threats with the Houston Rockets, who boast the number three overall pick in this year’s draft, Reed Sheppard.
The former Kentucky guard dazzled as a guard in college, displaying elite playmaking ability, and even better outside shooting (52% from long range last year).
Sheppard is undeniably the player to watch if you’re a Houston fan, and he also should be a big reason why they have a shot at winning the Summer League title. After all, while his offensive skill-set is fun to watch, it’s oddly enough his defensive tenacity that leaves the biggest impression.
He won’t be doing the work all on his own, either. Summer League legend Cam Whitmore is back for more, while Jermaine Samuels Jr., Kira Lewis Jr., and Orland Robinson are a few more rotational-level players that should provide a boost.
The talent level and experience isn’t quite the same with Houston as the aforementioned squads, but that’s baked into their more attractive +1000 NBA Summer League odds.
Best 2024 NBA Summer League Value Bet
There are quite a few value bets that I’d be willing to consider when betting on who will win the 2024 NBA Summer League.
Dononvan Clingan makes the Portland Trail Blazers somewhat appealing at +2500 odds, while there’s always the Bronny James narrative with the Los Angeles Lakers (+7500).
Betting on Bronny James prop bets alone is fun, but rolling him up with the entire Lake Show might feel a little less risky. Of course, there’s always the New Orleans Pelicans, who offer the best NBA Summer League odds for 2024.
Of all the potential value bets, though, nobody stands out more than the Washington Wizards.
I know they aren’t a team you’d normally trust to win much of anything, but this could easily be the team harboring the most talent in Las Vegas.
Washington just selected athletic big man Alex Sarr second overall.
He joins some underrated veterans looking to prove their worth.
It remains to be seen just how involved Washington’s prized rookie is, but he has the size and athleticism to be a monster at both ends of the floor. Let’s not ignore the likes of Johnny Davis, Jared Butler, and Tristan Vukcevic – all of whom have flashed nice ability in the SL or even at the NBA level.
Washington doesn’t have quite the name recognition of other teams, but if you pay close attention, their talent pool is actually quite impressive. If I didn’t mind throwing caution to the wind, they’d stand out as my favorite NBA Summer League sleeper to target in 2024.
2024 NBA Summer League Prediction
I definitely think the Warriors are deserving favorites. Their +600 NBA Summer League odds are pretty good for a team that has as much talent and experience as anyone this year.
However, Utah’s talent is slightly better, and I also like the rookies they’re bringing in. The inside/outside attack of Keyonte George and Walker Kessler alone makes the Jazz appealing, but Cody Williams and the other first-year players put them over the top.
As mentioned, you truly can go in any number of directions when deciding how to bet on the 2024 NBA Summer League. Literally every viable option is priced at +600 or better.
I’d start with Utah, and largely keep my bets focused on the top contenders I broke down in this guide. If you want to stretch your neck and bet on someone with a bigger price tag, the first team I’d look at is Washington.
Bet: Utah Jazz +700
