It’s the final week of the preseason and NFL teams will be scrambling to evaluate who makes and who misses their rosters. Most starters, if any, will not see any action in Week 3. As a result, there could be some very interesting games this week.
Here’s a look at the top three moneyline underdog picks for NFL preseason Week 3.
Best Underdog Predictions for NFL Preseason Week 3
Green Bay Packers vs. Buffalo Bills Picks
A spread of eight points is practically unheard of in an NFL preseason game. That’s exactly the spread in Saturday afternoon’s Packers-Bills matchup. Buffalo is favored -8 over Green Bay, which is 0-2 this preseason.
The Packers haven’t mustered much offense in their first two preseason outings. Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers has not and will not take a snap this preseason. Last week, Jordan Love and Kurt Benkert combined to go 20-of-29 for 193 yards and one touchdown. The Packers scored just seven points bringing their preseason total to just 21.
To make matters worse, Jordan Love, Rodgers’ backup, dinged a shoulder and didn’t play the three quarters that head coach Matt La Fleur had planned. Still, the Bills are very much in the same boat though they are 2-0 in the preseason. QB Josh Allen won’t play. The same holds true for most Buffalo starters this week.
Relying on Mitchell Trubisky, Davis Webb, and Jake Fromm to cover eight points is a bit much to ask.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs Picks
It’s another preseason matchup of a 2-0 team – Kansas City – and an 0-2 opponent – Minnesota. The thing about the preseason is that it is hard to predict because you usually do not know who will play and who won’t play.
It’s pretty clear that we won’t see Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs or Kirk Cousins for the Vikings. In fact, most starters probably won’t play on either side. Knowing that, there may be one thing bettors can hang their hat on in picking this game.
Kansas City head coach Andy Reid hasn’t fared all that well in the preseason, especially against the spread. Opponents of the Reid are 35-31-1 ATS in preseason games.
Now, on the other end, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has been pretty successful in preseason games. Zimmer’s approach to the game has always been defense and running game and the preseason is no exception. Teams still get a heavy dose of both from the Vikings under Zimmer in the preseason. As a result, Zimmer’s preseason record against the spread is 17-10.
The Vikings have only scored 16 points this preseason, but they kept last week’s game close (12-10 loss to Indianapolis). Let’s say they do it again.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Carolina Panthers Picks
The Steelers are 3-0 in the preseason and head coach Mike Tomlin has already announced that Dwayne Haskins will start at quarterback. So far this preseason, Haskins has looked good. He is 28-of-42 for 271 yards and a touchdown. With a solid performance Friday night, Haskins will lock up the Steelers No. 3 quarterback slot and possibly even overtake Mason Rudolph at No. 2.
Carolina, which is 0-2 this preseason, is somehow favored by four points. Starting quarterback Sam Darnold and the Panthers starters are expected to see extended time on Friday which is the likely reason for the four-point advantage.
Still, Pittsburgh’s defense is deep and good. It’s definitely good enough to win a close game.
