As we transition into winter season and families gather for the Holidays, NFL teams are still fighting to finish with the best record in the league. Currently, there are eight teams with a realistic shot at finishing the 2024-25 NFL regular season with the most wins.

Yet, finishing with the most wins in a season hasn’t always translated into winning a Super Bowl. In fact, only three of the last 11 Super Bowl winners finished with the most wins during the regular season. The Kansas City Chiefs were the last to accomplish this feat in 2022.

Last year, the Baltimore Ravens finished the regular season with the most wins and they were bounced in the AFC Championship. As of this writing, there are a handful of teams within one win of each other. Fortunately, a lot of this will be settled on the field as most of these teams still face one another.

Let’s take a closer look at the NFL teams with a shot to finish with the most regular season wins and make our predictions for this NFL prop bet.

NFL Best Record Odds

The following NFL odds are courtesy of the top sports betting sites:

TeamPreseason OddsNovember Odds
Kansas City Chiefs+500+130
Detroit Lions+1200+160
Buffalo Bills+1800+650
Philadelphia Eagles+1000+900
Minnesota Vikings+17500+1800
Green Bay Packers+1800+4000
Los Angeles Chargers+4000+7500
Pittsburgh Steelers+6600+7500

In the preseason, the San Francisco 49ers (+500), Baltimore Ravens (+700), Cincinnati Bengals (+900) and Dallas Cowboys (+1400) were all considered realistic candidates to finish with the best record in the NFL. However, that’s all changed as we approach the end of November.

Of these four teams, only the Baltimore Ravens have a winning record. Furthermore, the Cowboys and Bengals will miss the Playoffs. The 49ers are on the cusp of missing the postseason after a strong run the last few years.

The Minnesota Vikings have seen the biggest jump as they’ve gone from +17500 to +1800. Additionally, the Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo Bills have also seen sizable movements.

NFL Teams Contending For Most Wins

The following NFL teams are currently in the hunt to finish the 2024-25 regular season with the most wins:

Kansas City Chiefs

In the preseason, the Kansas City Chiefs were unanimously considered as the odds-on favorite to finish the regular season with the best record. In fact, most pundits and fans predicted this team to cruise to another AFC West divisional crown.

However, a funny thing happened over the first few months of the season, the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers decided that they wanted to be winning football teams and are now poised to give the Chiefs a hard time in the division.

In fact, the Broncos were a blocked field goal away from handing the Chiefs their first loss of the season. That role ended up going to the Buffalo Bills in Week 11.

Nevertheless, the Chiefs are still favored to pick up the most wins this season. With that said, it’s not a lock for KC to finish with the best record. They’re just a slight favorite over the Detroit Lions and still have a tough final few months of the season.

The Chiefs should steamroll the Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns. But they still have tough divisional matchups against the Chargers and Broncos on the docket. Additionally, they also face the Texans at home and head out on the road to Pittsburgh for Christmas.

The Bills exposed KC’s weaknesses and teams like the Chargers, Steelers and Texans can capitalize on these deficiencies to win. Can KC run the table or go at least 4-1 against their five toughest opponents left on the schedule?

Detroit Lions

If you look at most NFL rankings and betting sites, the Detroit Lions sit at the top of the standings and with Super Bowl odds. They overtook the Chiefs following KC’s loss at Buffalo.

Yet, the tide was turning after the Chiefs barely beat the Broncos in Week 10. While KC was winning by a handful of points each week, the Lions were crushing everyone. They have the largest point differential in the league at +159 and also have the biggest blowout wins of the year.

With that said, the Lions have just as difficult of a remaining schedule as the Chiefs. In fact, some would argue that Detroit has a more difficult road to finishing with the best record in the league.

The Lions still have four games left within their division as they play the Bears twice, Packers and close the season versus the Vikings. Additionally, they also play the Colts, 49ers and Buffalo Bills in Week 15 which some think could be a Super Bowl preview.

Currently, the Vikings are just one game back of the Lions in the division and NFC standings. Additionally, the Eagles are only one game back as well. So, Detroit has no room for mistakes or slumps. Can this elite offense continue to lead the Lions to the best record in the NFL and the #1 seed in the NFC?

Buffalo Bills

As mentioned, the Buffalo Bills handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season and are just one loss back of KC for the top record in the AFC. The Bills dropped two early games to the Ravens and Texans, but have gone on a tear since then.

In the preseason, Buffalo was being counted out to win the AFC East once again. Yet, as we get closer to Thanksgiving, the Bills could end up being the first team in the league to win their division. Currently, the Bills have a 5 ½ game lead in the AFC East and have already swept the second-place Miami Dolphins.

With that said, Buffalo does have some tough games left on the docket. They still face the 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, and Lions. Additionally, they close the season playing three divisional games with two versus the Patriots and one versus the Jets.

Now, Buffalo could end up sweeping the rest of their season if they can beat Detroit. But don’t overlook the wounded and desperate 49ers or the equally desperate Rams.

However, if you are comparing their schedule to the Chiefs and Lions, you have to like Buffalo’s chances more so than the other two to run the table. Can Buffalo finish the season defeating both the Chiefs and Lions, while capturing the best record in the league?

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have come on strong and are now just one game back of the Lions for the top seed in the NFC. Additionally, they should also win their division and still have some very winnable games on their schedule.

Philly still plays the Panthers, Cowboys and Giants. However, they also have the Rams, Ravens, Steelers and Commanders left. Three of those four games are on the road as well. That’s a tough test for any team in the league.

The Eagles boast of the league’s top running game and have a surprisingly good defense. Heading into the season, many of us thought the addition of running back Saquon Barkley would make this offense one of the best in the league. However, not many people picked this defense to be a Top 10 unit.

In the Playoffs, running the ball and playing great defense are the ingredients for winning. Philly has been great in both of these aspects.

Whether they finish with the most wins in the NFL or not, this team is poised for a deep Playoff run just like the Chiefs, Bills and Lions. That starts by winning the NFC East and finishing with one of the top two seeds.

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have been a big surprise in the NFL this year. Here we have a team that was picked to finish last in the NFC North and be in transition until they found a franchise quarterback. Well, Sam Darnold decided to resurrect his career and this defense has been shockingly good as well.

With that said, the Vikings have a challenging final stretch of the season. They have four divisional games left with two versus the Bears. Additionally, they close the season against the Packers and Lions. Those las two games could end up deciding the North and the #1 seed in the NFC.

Outside of those games, Minnesota also plays the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. The Falcons and Cardinals are leading their respective divisions and the Seahawks are fighting for a Wild Card spot.

In other words, the Vikings have seven games against division leaders and Wild Card contenders. The truth will come out as to just how good Minnesota is. Will they fade down the stretch or prove that they belong in the upper echelon of the NFC?

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers were a few minutes away of advancing to the NFC Championship game last year. Although it didn’t work out for the Pack, they still showed great potential and a bright future.

Like many teams in the NFL, Green Bay has struggled due to injuries. However, the addition of Josh Jacobs in the offseason has made this team a real contender in the NFC. It would’ve been interesting to see how the Packers fared against the Lions if they were fully healthy and not playing in the rain.

They will get a second shot at the Lions in the beginning of December. They also face the 49ers, Dolphins, Seahawks, Saints, Vikings and Bears.

Green Bay should be a Playoff team, but they’re two games back of the Lions and Chiefs for the best record in the NFL and I don’t see the Pack being able to win out or the other two teams dropping to four losses.

Los Angeles Chargers

Like the Packers, the Los Angeles Chargers are also two games back of the Chiefs and Lions. However, their remaining schedule is easier than Green Bay. LA still plays the Ravens Chiefs, Broncos and Falcons. But they also have games against Tampa Bay, New England and Las Vegas.

Jim Harbaugh has turned this franchise around in his first season. Unfortunately, he’s not a miracle worker and it would take a small miracle to not only win out, but for the Chiefs, Lions, Bills, and Eagles to drop to four losses on the season.

In other words, the Chargers seem locked into one of the Wild Card spots but they have no shot at finishing with the best record in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Steelers

A funny thing happened on the way to the Christmas showdown with the Chiefs and the top spot in the AFC, Pittsburgh went and lost to the lowly Cleveland Browns in a blizzard. This dropped the Steelers to two games back of the Chiefs and not a lot of wiggle room left in their schedule for mistakes.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still face the Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs, Browns again, and two versus the Bengals. On paper, Pittsburgh should sweep the Bengals and get revenge against the Browns. Yet, they will need to play their best games against the Chiefs and Eagles. And, after what I saw in Week 12, I have a hard time thinking that this team is mentally strong enough to accomplish that.

I don’t see the Steelers leapfrogging the Lions for the best record, but they still have an outside chance of taking down the Chiefs and surpassing the Bills for the top spot in the conference.

Who Will Finish With the NFL’s Best Record?

Right off the bat, we can rule out the Vikings and Packers. I don’t see either team taking down the Lions for the NFC North division. We can also rule out the Chargers and Steelers as three losses has put both teams well behind the Chiefs and Lions for the best record.

Realistically, this NFL prop bet comes down to the Chiefs, Lions, Bills and Eagles. The Bills and Eagles are just one game back of the Chiefs and Lions for the best record. These two teams also have easier schedules down the stretch than the Chiefs and Lions.

In the preseason, we picked the Detroit Lions to finish with the best record. They were close to making the Super Bowl last year and don’t have to worry about the outdoor elements like the Chiefs, Bills and Eagles as they play in a dome.

Ultimately, this prop bet will come down to the Week 15 game between the Bills and Lions. Whoever wins that game should end up with the best record for the 2024-25 NFL season. As of now, you have to give the slight edge to the Lions since they will be at home for that matchup.

The Chiefs might be favored for this prop bet, but I see the Steelers taking them down on Christmas and I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost one to the Chargers or Broncos. And, let’s not forget that the Texans will be out to prove they can be a contender when they face the Chiefs.

I see no reason to change our preseason pick from the Lions even though their odds have dropped from +1200 to +160. Detroit is clearly the best team in the league as of Week 12 and they have enough talent on both sides of the ball to win the most games this year and possibly even Super Bowl 59

Best Bet: Detroit Lions (+160)
