Most teams were off on Friday, but everyone is back in action on Saturday, April 1st 2023. We’re going to analyze the betting lines and I’ll provide my top five predictions to bet on.
The action will begin at 2:10 PM ET on Saturday and there are games on the rest of the day.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Blue Jays vs. Cardinals Preview
Best Bet: Over 8 Runs (-105)
The Blue Jays (1-0) defeated the Cardinals (0-1) on Opening Day by a score of 10-9. The two teams had 34 hits in the game. While I don’t expect as much offense, a total of 8 runs seems too low.
The aces couldn’t get it done on Thursday, so it’s unlikely Kevin Gausman (TOR) and Jack Flaherty (STL) will be able to shut down these offenses. Runs were scored in every inning except the 5th on Thursday.
San Francisco Giants vs. New York Yankees
Best Bet: Yankees ML (-135)
The Yankees (1-0) won the first game of this series against the Giants (0-1). NYY won 5-0 and the Giants only had four hits. Clarke Schmidt will get the nod for the Yankees due to numerous injuries to pitchers.
Alex Cobb (3.73 ERA and 1.30 WHIP last season) will start for SF. Aaron Judge already has one HR and the Yankees bats are going to score a lot of runs this season. The Giants won’t score enough to keep up.
Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals
Best Bet: Braves -1.5 (-145)
The Braves (1-0) won the series opener by five runs (7-2) against the Nationals (0-1). Everyone will be hammering the Braves to win on the run line again. Washington are going to be terrible this season.
Spencer Strider (2.67 ERA and 0.99 WHIP last season) will start for the Braves. He would be the ace on a lot of teams. Josiah Gray will start for the Nationals and he had a 5.02 ERA last season.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox
Best Bet: Orioles ML (+135)
The Orioles (1-0) won a high-scoring game against the Red Sox (1-0) on Thursday. The final score was 10-9 and both teams combined for 26 hits. I’m going with the Orioles to win again as underdogs.
Dean Kremer will pitch for Baltimore. He had 3.23 ERA last season and will look to improve upon that. The Red Sox will send Chris Sale to the mound and he’s coming off a rough Spring Training.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds
Best Bet: Pirates ML (+130)
The Pirates (1-0) defeated the Reds (0-1) on Thursday in a close game that ended 5-4. The Pirates only had six hits, but they scored five runs. The Reds scored four runs despite Joey Votto being injured.
The Reds are going to struggle without Votto in the lineup. The Pirates are going to win more games than they did last season. Adding Andrew McCutchen and Carlos Santana will give the team some power.
