NBA Preseason Treats Handicappers Like Royalty

With the NBA Preseason coming to a close, our handicappers are sitting back with a fat stack of cash. The Preseason isn’t as popular with bettors as the regular season is (duh), but there was still money to be made.

The Warriors pulled through as the #1 overall, with the Knicks and Celtics following close behind. But the most profitable handicappers weren’t betting moneylines, they were betting spreads. Let’s check out how they made their mulla:

Gino De Luca Doesn’t Miss

While the NBA preseason was kind to most of our handicappers, Gino De Luca had an exceptional record. Since October 10th, he’s gone 6-0, winning $600!

AD 4nXeJEoMmSgTlQCo8L3 KJJ7BKcNpt1V bYAgMPdUQUbGXu7Gsh9RP1 On2Fhoj AczeHweiYZHjUmfRX30eMs2Fb8W5PJ4r4QPBU8lbWhFZ2

How does he do it? Well, De Luca is betting spreads almost exclusively, and for the most part, he’s betting the favorite. He’s not taking wagers with odds greater than -110, even on the lone totals wager he placed on the 76ers and Hawks, he was betting on the favorite.

While we don’t always recommend betting the public line, there’s something to be said for De Luca’s strategy. He’s not betting moneylines, which have quite higher odds than spreads or totals, so he’s keeping it close to the chest with his picks.

The $600 in his pocket doesn’t lie, but we’re interested to see where he takes this strategy when the NBA season picks up next week.

Best NBA Preseason Handicappers

Not all of our handicappers got in on the NBA Preseason action, but those who did are putting up good stats. Aside from De Luca, Ryan Davis and Gino Russo are 4-1, both in the green for $290.

In the last week, our top 5 handicappers have a combined record of 16-2, which is an 88.89% win rate. They’ve won $1,380 on their wagers.

We’ll look to see if these few cappers can perform when the NBA season starts next week. We know De Luca can hit, but can the others?

Wizards and 76ers, Spread Fails

There weren’t very many losses this past week (the handicappers are just that good), but Ryan Davis and Gino Russo both lost a wager.

Davis lost a +2.5 for the Wizards to cover the spread against the Nets.

And Gino Russo lost a similar wager where the 76ers failed to cover the +4.5 spread against the Timberwolves.

Where Our Money’s For NBA Week 1

NBA week 1 starts on October 22nd with the Knicks traveling to Boston and the Timberwolves taking on the Lakers.

The Knicks/Celtics game is going to be close, as both teams ranked in the top 4 during the preseason. The Celtics finished last season 64-18, while the Knicks finished 50-32. That’s a big game to cover.

Betting the moneyline for this game might be challenging, but one of our handicappers, Skyler Lockheart, is looking at -5 on the spread for Boston.

We’re also looking out for the Warriors vs Trailblazers game on the 23rd. The Warriors were in poor form last year, but they came in as the top finisher in the preseason. Not sure if the moneyline is the best option there, either, but definitely want to watch the spread for the Warriors.
