The 2021 college football season for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns was one of the best in school history. You would think that expectations would be high in 2022. While that is the case, there are factors at play that might keep this program from having another monster season.

Perhaps the biggest loss for the Ragin’ Cajuns comes on the sidelines. Billy Napier has moved on to be the head coach of the Florida Gators. Not only is Napier gone, quarterback Levi Lewis graduated. He was one of the best players in school history.
The defense took a hit as well as the top three linebackers from last season have all moved on. Mekhi Garner is the biggest loss after he decided to transfer to LSU to continue his career.

Despite the losses, this team should still be the clear pick to win the Sun Belt West this season. Louisiana has gone 34-5 over the last three seasons, and there is enough talent to have another big year.
Running Back Chris Smith led the team with 855 rushing yards a season ago, and he’s back to lead the offense. This defense is loaded with athletes, and they are going to be disruptive against inferior opponents.
2022 Louisiana Football Schedule
The 2022 non-conference schedule is highlighted by a road trip at Florida State late in the year. The rest of the schedule looks pretty manageable.
A home game against Eastern Michigan in Week 2 is another big game. That one can have a big impact on the win total.
The rest of the big games come in the Sun Belt Conference. Louisiana should remain one of the favorites to win the league. Not playing Appalachian State in the regular season will help, but there will be some challenges along the way.

Louisiana is not going to win 13 games again this season, but it should be another big year. The Ragin’ Cajuns are one of the betting favorites to win the Sun Belt again. They should win three of their non-conference games.
Even if it’s not as good of a year as it was in 2021, Louisiana could still pick up ten wins during the regular season. The only pick to make for the Ragin’ Cajuns is to take the over.
