Avalanche and Predators Seek Turnaround in Nashville Clash
The Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators both aim to halt two-game losing streaks as they face off on Saturday night in Nashville. After strong starts, each team has recently stumbled, and now, these Central Division contenders will try to regain momentum as they kick off a four-game season series.
Colorado Avalanche: Looking to Rebound After Home Losses
The Avalanche (5-6-0) opened the season with a promising five-game winning streak but have recently encountered challenges, suffering consecutive 5-2 losses at home to the Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning. Head coach Jared Bednar expressed frustration after the latest defeat, especially as Colorado’s younger players made defensive errors that led to early goals against Tampa Bay.
“It’s awareness mistakes,” Bednar noted. “Young players sometimes just aren’t reading it quickly enough or getting into the right spot.”
Despite these struggles, there are bright spots. Defenseman Cale Makar continues his historic start, extending his point streak to 11 games, which ties him with legendary defenseman Bobby Orr for the longest season-opening point streak by a defenseman. Nathan MacKinnon also maintained his point streak, recording two assists against Tampa Bay, but their efforts couldn’t save the Avs from back-to-back losses.
The Avalanche hope their strong veteran core, led by Makar and MacKinnon, can quickly course-correct. Bednar will look to see improved defensive awareness and resilience from the younger roster members.
Nashville Predators: Searching for Home Ice Success
Nashville has faced its own struggles, falling in a disappointing 5-1 home loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday after a hard-fought 3-2 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Despite scoring first on the power play thanks to Filip Forsberg, the Predators failed to sustain offensive pressure, and the game slipped away quickly.
Head coach Andrew Brunette expressed his frustration with the team’s sluggish start, particularly as the Oilers struck first just 37 seconds into the game.
“We weren’t ready to play. We’ve talked about matching a team’s desperation, and we came out flat,” Brunette said.
Forsberg’s unassisted power-play goal was one of the few highlights, and the Predators managed to keep the shots close (29-27) while leading in hits (30-20). But that wasn’t enough to counter Edmonton’s control, even with Oilers star Connor McDavid absent from the lineup. Nashville’s four-game point streak (3-0-1) came to an end, leaving them at 3-6-1 for October.
Adding to the challenge, the Predators are dealing with injuries, including center Mark Jankowski, who is day-to-day with an upper-body issue. Nashville welcomed back Juuso Parssinen on Thursday, which could help stabilize their third line.

Key Matchups and Strategy for Saturday’s Game
Both teams will need strong starts to avoid repeating recent frustrations. The Avalanche must tighten their defense, particularly among the younger players, to prevent Nashville from capitalizing on early chances. Nashville, on the other hand, must focus on energy and intensity from the opening puck drop to avoid falling behind like they did against Edmonton.
With both teams coming off disappointing losses, Saturday’s game is crucial for restoring confidence and positioning in the tight Central Division race. As each squad looks to break out of its current funk, fans can expect an intense showdown at Bridgestone Arena.
