The Titans Can Win If…

With a 2-8 record, the Titans sit 28th in our power rankings and have just a 0.5% chance of making the playoffs. They’ve lost two straight, including a 10-point home loss to the Vikings in week 11. Tennessee was a 6-point underdog in that game, and they failed to cover, bringing their ATS record to 1-9 this season.

The Titans have an average scoring margin of -9.3 points per game and have lost six straight against the spread. Their O/U record is 5-4-1, with their games averaging 43.3 points per game, compared to an average line of 40.4.

On third down, they rank 26th with a conversion rate of 33.6%, but they have been efficient in the red zone, converting 48.3% of their trips, which ranks 7th in the league.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine had 117 receiving yards on two catches, and Levis led the team in rushing with 18 yards on 7 carries. The Titans’ defense gave up 236 passing yards to the Vikings in their most recent game, with 62.5% completions and two passing touchdowns. They allowed Minnesota to convert on 35.7% of their third down attempts. Tennessee’s run defense was a bright spot, giving up just 82 yards on 33 attempts (2.5 yards per attempt).

Overall, the Titans allowed 318 total yards in their 23-13 loss to the Vikings. They managed two sacks but lost the tackles for loss battle by a margin of -4.

The Texans Can Win If…

Heading into week 12, the Texans sit atop the AFC South with a 7-4 record, including a 3-0 mark in division games. Our projections give them a 96.8% chance of making the playoffs and a 94.6% chance of winning the division. Houston ranks 9th in our NFL power rankings this week.

After two straight losses, the Texans bounced back in week 11 with a 34-10 win over the Cowboys, covering the 7-point spread. This was their second consecutive ATS win, bringing their record to 5-6. Their O/U record stands at 3-7-1 this season.

Heading into week 12, the Texans sit 17th in our offensive power rankings. They rank 13th in the NFL in points per game (23.5) and 14th in yards per game (342.9). Houston has been strong in the first quarter, averaging 6.7 points, which ranks 3rd in the league. They are 16th in 3rd-down conversions, with a 38.2% success rate, and 22nd in red zone conversion percentage, despite ranking 6th in red zone attempts.

In week 11, C.J. Stroud threw for 257 yards (23/34) in a win over the Cowboys. Joe Mixon rushed for 109 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Tank Dell led the team with 54 receiving yards. Before Dell’s 54-yard game, John Metchie III had 74 yards in week 10, and Dell recorded 126 yards in week 9.

The Texans’ defense played well in their 34-10 win over the Cowboys, recording five sacks and holding Dallas to a 33.3% conversion rate on third down. Despite giving up 324 passing yards on 33 completions, they limited the Cowboys to just one passing touchdown. Houston’s run defense was also effective, allowing only 64 yards on 18 attempts.

They pressured the quarterback consistently, winning the QB hit differential by 5 and the tackles for loss differential by 4. Although the Cowboys had 388 total yards, the Texans’ defense tightened up when it mattered, keeping them to only 10 points in the game.

  • Through their last three games, the Texans have a record of 2-1. In terms of betting, the team went 2-1 ATS in these matchups. Their over/under record in these matchups is 0-2-1.

The Lean

Our pick against the spread in this Titans vs. Texans matchup is to take the Texans to cover as home favorites. With the point spread sitting at +8.5 in favor of the Titans, we have the Texans winning by a score of 30-17.

For the over/under line, we have a pick leaning towards the over, with a projected combined score of 47 points. With the line at 41.5 points, there is a good amount of value in taking the over.

Texans look to continue winning ways against visiting Titans

The Houston Texans aim to solidify their AFC South lead when they host the struggling Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Houston (7-4) holds a two-game advantage in the division despite a recent slump in which it lost three of four games, including squandering a 16-point halftime lead to the Detroit Lions. However, the Texans rebounded with a dominant 34-10 road victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, a performance that may signal a return to form.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans is cautious about looking too far ahead.

“I just want our guys to remain focused, remain locked in on the task at hand each week,” Ryans said. “If we do that, we’re a really good football team. We can play with anybody. It’s just about finishing.”

Texans’ offense finding its rhythm

Quarterback C.J. Stroud threw for 257 yards against the Cowboys, though he was intercepted once. Wide receiver Nico Collins returned from a five-game absence due to a hamstring injury and contributed four catches for 54 yards.

Running back Joe Mixon was the star of the game, rushing for three touchdowns and accumulating 153 yards from scrimmage, including 109 rushing yards. It marked his fifth 100-yard rushing performance in six games.

“When he’s on, Joe’s a force,” Ryans said. “I liked the way we just kept churning it in the run game. And I’m proud of the guys for stepping up to the challenge.”

The Texans are also expected to get a boost from the return of defensive end Will Anderson Jr. after a two-game absence. Anderson, who was limited in Wednesday’s practice, shares the team lead with 7.5 sacks alongside Danielle Hunter.

Titans searching for identity

The Titans (2-8) have struggled to find their footing after the offseason departure of star running back Derrick Henry. Tennessee has lost six games by double digits and now embarks on back-to-back road contests against Houston and the Washington Commanders.

Despite the challenges, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is optimistic.

“The fight this team showed, especially in the second half, is why you want to play this game,” Simmons said. “No matter what the record may be, that’s why I come to work, and I’m ready to go to war with my guys.”

Quarterback Will Levis threw for a season-high 295 yards in last Sunday’s 23-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. A significant chunk of that came on a 98-yard touchdown pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. However, Levis completed just 17 of 31 passes and was intercepted once.

“You have to just continue coming to work, knowing that how you approach your job and how you approach your day-to-day are the habits that create winning football,” Levis said Wednesday. “And, we just have to know that if we just keep doing those things, then the wins are going to come.”

Injury concerns for both teams

The Titans will be without standout cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (quadriceps), and wide receiver Calvin Ridley (illness) is among several others who missed Wednesday’s practice, including defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day (biceps) and running back Tyjae Spears (concussion). Linebacker Jack Gibbens (ankle) underwent season-ending surgery earlier this week.

For the Texans, defensive end Denico Autry (knee/oblique), defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi (foot), and offensive tackle Blake Fisher (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday.

Recent history favors Houston

The Texans have won the past three meetings with the Titans, including a sweep last season. The teams will meet again in the final week of the regular season in Nashville.
