Last week we saw two of our seasoned handicappers going at it for the top spot in the Top 5 list. Lombardi certainly had some wind in his sails, but he couldn’t compete with Sean Kuchman’s drive to make money.
Check out the full details of last week’s handicapper performances and see what we’re betting this week.
Kuchman is Back in Green
We’ve seen Kuchman in the top 5 before, and his strategy is all about betting volume. The more wagers you place, the more likely you are to win, right?
Well, last week, he placed 45 wagers, with a pretty good balance between spread, moneylines, and totals. He lost money on straight wagers, but he made all his profit with spreads, then totals.
What’s more important, Kuchman didn’t let losses impact him mentally. He would lose 2-3 wagers at a time, but he didn’t let those falters stop him from reaching his goal.
And even though he spent a lot to get there, he ended the week with $920 in profit.
The only advice I’d give to Kuchman would be to focus on spreads and totals, cut out the moneylines. The money you’d make off straight wagers might be a bit better, but betting spreads and totals is more consistent, and can help boost that overall win percentage.
Top NHL Handicappers Last Week
Last week, we saw Sean Kuchman and Sal Lombardi leading the board with impressive numbers of wagers, while all other cappers fall off.
In total, the top 5 handicappers made $1,920 in profit with a 45-31 record. To be fair, Kuchman and Lombardi’s wagers really impacted the overall win rate (59.2%), but they were the only ones betting in volume.
Regardless, it’s nice to see some people putting in work after the previous week’s lackluster numbers.
Moneyline Ain’t It, Man
Pretty far down on the leaderboard list, we see Sports Hub Insider. They’ve made it to the top 5 before, but last week they really struggled.
Like Kuchman, they lost money on their straight wagers. But instead of $25, they lost $270. And they only lost 3 wagers!
You can also see, they bet pretty wide underdog odds on most of their wagers. The Sharks moneyline has betrayed bettors in the past, and it didn’t do any favors last week either. Against the Knights, too? Odd choice.
Where Our Money’s At This Week
The Capitals and the Leafs are neck-in-neck at the top of the Eastern Conference, both with 56 pts at time of writing this.
This week, we see the Leafs play the Hurricanes, which, we think, will be a pretty tight game, so ditch moneylines there and stick with totals. We also see the Capitals play the Canadiens, which should be a Capitals W, but we’ll see.
Saturday, we also see the Kraken and Sabres face off. These two teams are fun to watch, but, boy, are they rough this season.
