Favorites had another big week in the NFL last week going 9-5 ATS. The biggest underdog winner was Cincinnati, a 6-point dog that beat Baltimore outright. Tennessee, a 4-point underdog, blew out Kansas City.
Another slate of games in Week 8 gives bettors more opportunities to cash in. Here’s a look at the top five NFL Week 8 ATS picks.
Texans vs. Rams Week 8 Spread
A two-touchdown-plus spread in the NFL is almost unheard of. Can the Rams cover it? Sure, but Texans QB Tyrod Taylor listed as questionable, this may be just too many points to lay.
With Taylor in the lineup, the Texans were much better offensively than with rookie Davis Mills. The Rams won’t overlook the Texans, but covering 14.5 is a bit much.
Best ATS Pick: TEXANS +14.5
Bengals vs. Jets Week 8 Spread
Yes, the Bengals are for real. They didn’t just beat Baltimore last week. They BEAT the Ravens. Facing the Jets on the road is a perfect let-down scenario, but QB Joe Burrow and the Bengals defense isn’t about to let that happen.
It would take a miracle for it to happen anyway. The Jets are awful and will be even worse without starting quarterback Zack Wilson who injured a knee in last Sunday’s loss to the Patriots. Wilson will miss two to four weeks.
The Bengals are now a 9.5-point favorite over the Jets and it is warranted. The Jets give up 402.5 yards and 29.2 points per game. The offense is even worse. The Jets average just 13.3 points per game well below the 27 that Burrow and Bengals score.
Best ATS Pick: BENGALS -9.5
Titans vs. Colts Week 8 Spread
Tennessee is on a roll. They have consecutive wins over Buffalo and Kansas City. The win over the Chiefs was a statement. Now, the Titans face a team they have beaten in three of the last four meetings – Indianapolis.
The Colts (3-4) got a big win over San Francisco on the road last week. That gives Indy two straight wins and three in their last four games. A win over Tennessee would get the Colts right back in the playoff picture.
Things are starting to gel for Colts QB Carson Wentz and the rest of the offense. This is a spot where two consecutive tough games for the Titans takes its toll.
Best ATS Pick: COLTS +1
Steelers vs. Browns Week 8 Spread
Prior to last season, Cleveland had beaten rival Pittsburgh just five times in 36 tries. Last year, the Browns won two games against the Steelers in a week’s time. Cleveland won a meaningless Week 17 game and then beat the Steelers in a wild card playoff game.
Coming into Sunday, the Steelers are rested coming off a bye and they are much healthier than the Browns. QB Baker Mayfield is questionable as is RB Nick Chubb. Kareem Hunt is out and DE Jadeveon Clowney is questionable.
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is 23-2-1 against the Browns in his career and he’s been good as an underdog with a solid 24-12 record straight up.
Best ATS Pick: STEELERS +3.5
Cowboys vs. Vikings Week 8 Spread
Dallas is in another league compared to Minnesota. The Cowboys offense leads the NFL in scoring averaging 34.2 points per game. Dallas is second in Success Rate and no team, not even Tampa Bay in the season opener, has been able to slow down the Cowboys.
Minnesota, on the other hand, had trouble with the offensive juggernauts known as Detroit and Carolina. The Vikings offense is conservative by nature reflecting the philosophy of head coach Mike Zimmer. That is why Dallas is the easy choice to cover here.
Best ATS Pick: COWBOYS -2.5
