Welcome to week eight of the NFL. The Packers have taken care of business and clearly established themselves as the best team in the NFC, if not all of the NFL. Don’t get excited, the Rams are still great, as are the Cowboys, however, the Rams struggled at home against the Lions, and the Cowboys have given us reason for pause.
We certainly thought they had their act together, and they probably do, but the Packers established themselves beyond all doubt with their stellar performance on the road, against the 7- 1 Cardinals. The Colts, Bengals, and the Buccaneers all picked up big wins last week. Who shines this week, who takes a step backward? We look forward to what will no doubt be a fantastic week to earn some extra cash on tons of great football action. Call the bookie and ask for a deposit bonus because this week is going to be fun.
Panthers (3-4, 3-4-0 ATS) @ Falcons (3-3, 3-3-0 ATS)
Spread: Panthers +3, ML +145/-170, O/U 46.5
Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
When: 11:00 CT FOX
The Panthers took the roadie to NY and got their ever-living butts kicked! They left MetLife having gotten socked in the mouth to the tune of 25-3. What adds insult to injury is the fact this game was the Giants first win of the season. The Falcons came close to doing the same thing in Miami. They did win but did not get the three-point cover with a final score over the Dolphins, 30-28. It’s difficult to pick any NFL team to win a game when they are allowing 29.3 ppg. The Falcons are doing exactly that. The problem here; Sam Darnold, he’s not adjusting, he’s not that good. We will back Matt Ryan at home.
Picks: Falcons -3, Over 46.5
Dolphins (1-6, 2-5-0 ATS) @ Bills (4-2, 4-2-0 ATS)
Spread: Dolphins +14, ML +650/-1000, O/U 48.5
Where: Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park, NY
When: 11:00 CT CBS
This is an old rival that goes all the way back to the days of Kelly Vs Marino, it goes well beyond even that era but it’s probably most remembered for the Kelly Marino days. This Bills team is better than Jim Kelly’s! There, we said it. They are scoring 33.8 ppg and allowing 16.3. The Dolphins are scoring 18.1 ppg and allowing 29.6. The Dolphins are awful and now, they are stuck in the middle of trade rumors surrounding Tagovailoa. Short of Brady suiting up for the Dolphins, or possibly Manning coming out of retirement, they go to Buffalo and get their tails whipped.
Picks: Bills -14 Over 48.5
49ers (2-4, 1-5-0 ATS) @ Bears (3-4, 3-4-0 ATS)
Spread: 49ers -4, ML -200/+170 O/U 39.5
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago, IL
When: 11:00 CT FOX
Both the 49ers and the Bears are struggling, and both need a win. The 49ers MUST have a win, or they are cooked. In reality, they are cooked either way, but the bleeding must stop. The 49ers have put together 4-straight losses to the Colts, the Cardinals, the Seahawks, and the Packers. That’s a tough schedule. The Bears have lost the last 2-games by way of Tampa and the Packers. Two of their three wins have come against the Raiders, and the Lions. The Bears looked so bad last Sunday, we can’t back them, they will have to beat us first to think about spending money on them.
Picks: 49ers -4, Under 39.5
Steelers (3-3, 2-4-0 ATS) @ Browns (4-3, 4-3-0 ATS)
Spread: Steelers +4, ML +175/-210, O/U 42
Where: FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland, OH
When: 11:00 CT CBS
The Pittsburgh Steelers are often the caged animal that needs a win in the worst kind of way, on the road, good or bad weather, whatever the circumstance may be, they seem to dig deep and find those wins when they need them the most. They need this win against their biggest rival, and we think they get it. Baker is back, but who knows how effective he will be. Big Ben is due for a breakout game, and the Steelers will put up big plays against a disheveled Cleveland offense.
Picks: Steelers +4, Under 42
Eagles (2-5, 3-4-0 ATS) @ Lions (0-7, 4-3-0 ATS)
Spread: Eagles -3.5, ML -180/+155, O/U 48
Where: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
When: 11:00 CT FOX
One of these teams is duty-bound to win and we think the Lions notch their first of the season against the Eagles. It’s certainly not popular to pick the Lions in this one but we will do it because of what we see with the Eagles. The Eagles are a mess and the Lions took the Rams to task last Sunday. If any team has had bad luck, it’s the Lions, if any team is struggling to find themselves, it’s the Eagles. The Lions had their chances against the Rams but couldn’t capitalize on opportunities. Back in week 5, we picked the Eagles to beat the Panthers, and they did, they went on to lose at home to the Bucs, and on the road in Vegas. The Lions are better than what we have seen.
Picks: Lions +3.5, Over 48
Titans (5-2, 5-2-0 ATS) @ Colts (3-4, 5-2-0 ATS)
Spread: Titans +2.5, ML +130/-150, O/U 51
Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
When: 11:00 CT CBS
Much like the Bills and Dolphins, this is a great rivalry. The Colts need this win in the worst kind of way, number one, it will land them right back in the thick of things. Carson Wentz is finding his groove; it has taken a few games to find his sea legs, but he has them. Ryan Tannehill has not really found a groove, but Henry has for sure. This Titans team that beat the Chiefs, is a good team that has potential to be the best team in the AFC. Will Jonathan Taylor make a big enough impact and motivate the Colts defense to a victory? They need him to do this very thing.
Picks: Colts -2.5, Under 51
Bengals (5-2, 4-3-0 ATS) @ Jets (1-5, 1-5-0 ATS)
Spread: Bengals -10.5, ML -550/+4000, O/U 43
Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
When: 11:00 CT CBS
Burrow is the real deal. He struggled much of last season, but he is finding his way now and he’s hot. The Bengals are hot, and they will be ready for a struggling Jets franchise. Can this steam get any worse? For the Jets, it’s a perpetual rebuild, it’s one that never stops. Poor Sam Darnold, he never had a chance with this bumbling football team. The Jets are scoring – count them – 13.3 ppg. They are allowing 29.2 ppg/ They are awful, and they get bounced at home to a much better Bengals, who are scoring 27.8 ppg, and allowing 18.3. This will be ugly early, and throughout.
Picks: Bengals -10.5, Under 43
Rams (6-1, 4-3-0 ATS) @ Texans (1-6, 3-4-0 ATS)
Spread: Rams -16, ML, -1100/+700, O/U 47
Where: NRG Stadium, Houston, TX
When: 11:00 CT FOX
The Rams were laying 16 points against the Lions last week and we held our nose and waded through the stench, we laid the points, and look what happened. Now, we know that Rams are a better team than the Lions and although they didn’t cover 16, they did win by 10 points. That was at home, today’s game is in Houston, does it matter? NO, the Texans are really awful, it seems as if the only player that could play any defense whatsoever for the Texans was JJ Watt. That ship has sailed, and they are now allowing 29 points per game. They will get destroyed at home, by the Rams. Lay 16, take the over.
Picks: Rams -16, Over 52.5
Patriots (3-4, 3-4-0 ATS) @ Chargers (4-2, 4-2-0 ATS)
Spread: Patriots +4.5, ML +180/-220, O/U 49.5
Where: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA
When: 2:05 CT CBS
The Patriots are struggling, that’s true, however, this team still has Bill and they are not as bad as many thought they would be. Here is a problem – allowing your opponent to rush for 162.5 yard per game. That’s a breakdown on the defensive line that must be addressed. The Chargers are a much better team than they have been in the past, and we CANNOT compare lats season’s 45-0 embarrassment in this very game. The Chargers are good, but not champions quite yet. When looking at the Patriots defense that allows just 20 ppg, to the Chargers 25 ppg, and scoring 25.6 ppg, to the Chargers 24.7 ppg. We must like the Patriots in this one.
Picks: Patriots +4.5, Under 49.5
Jaguars (1-5, 2-4-0 ATS) @ Seahawks (2-5, 4-3-0 ATS)
Spread: Jaguars +3.5, ML +160/-190, O/U 44.5
Where: Lumen Field, Seattle, WA
When: 2:05 CT CBS
The Seahawks are maybe a little better than the Jaguars. We must look at this game from a Vegas point of view, where is the value? We don’t see that much value in this game and if there is any, it would be that Seattle is at home. The home field advantage in Seattle is not what it used to be, and the Saints traveled 3,000 mile to prove it, last Monday night. Geno Smith can win, and we think he puts together a decent game against a Jaguars team that allows 28.7 ppg. Lawrence will find a path eventually, but the Seahawks defense will step up this week.
Picks: Seahawks -3.5 Under 44.5
Washington (2-5, 1-6-0 ATS) @ Broncos (3-4, 3-4-0 ATS)
Spread: Washington +3, ML +155/-180, O/U 44.5
Where: Empower field at Mile High, Denver, CO
When: 2:25 CT FOX
The Broncos can win this game if they do two things, hold Washington to less than 20 (they are allowing 18.1 ppg) and Teddy Bridgewater must bust out and have a stellar game against a backfield that is highly suspect. Von Miller must come to play defense and motivate the team. Vic Fangio is not motivating them, on any level. Washington will continue to get better under Ron Rivera. He was hired because he is a great coach, and he will win game in Washington, give him time. Gordon is due for a breakout game for the Broncos, but we like Gibson to have a big day on the ground as well. This game will be close.
Picks: Denver playing a 7-point teaser: Denver +4, Under 51.5
Buccaneers (6-1, 3-4-0 ATS) @ Saints (4-2, 3-3-0 ATS)
Spread: Buccaneers -4.5, ML -220/+180, O/U 49.5
Where: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, LA
When: 2:25 CT FOX
The Saints are coming off a big road win in Seattle, can they convert that win top another win in this one, against Tom Brady and company? Listen, is the Packers can win in Phoenix, the Buc’s can win in New Orleans. This is more than “Toms team”, this is a team that brings a solid defense to the table and allowing just 21 ppg. The gawdy number is 33.3 ppg, that is what they score every Sunday. It takes a lot out of teams to travel, win a game and travel back, especially when that trip was 6,000 miles. The Bucs are close to home, and Brady is in the house. Winston is playing well, so was Murray for the Cardinals. We should have given Roger the nod in that one, we are giving Tom the nod in this one.
Picks: Buccaneers -4.5, Over 49.5
Cowboys (5-1, 6-0-0 ATS) @ Vikings (3-3, 3-3-0 ATS)
Spread: Cowboys +3, ML +140/-160, O/U 52
Where: US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
When: 6:20 CT NBC
Say what you want to about Mike McCarthy’s coaching style, he has this team at 5-1, and 6-0 against the spread. Dak is having a down year with 1813 yards, 16 TD’s and 4 INT’s! Ha, the Cowboys could have Tom Brady, be one game from a perfect season, and they would still be getting scrutinized by people that never played a snap. Zeke brings all the apples in this one, and the Vikings allow 128 yard per game, on the ground. Dak is having a fantastic year, but to the idiots, it’s a downer. The Cowboys outduel the Vikings in nearly every category and we think Vegas has given us a gift with this number.
Picks: Cowboys +3, Over 52
