The Devils Can Win If…

New Jersey fell to 26-16-5 after a 3-0 loss to the Flames. The Devils were favored on the puck line, but failed to cover. The total was set at 6.5 goals, but the combined score reached only 3.

The game was scoreless until the third period, when the Flames broke through at 14:26. Calgary added another goal at 14:54 and sealed the win with an empty-netter at 16:45.

The Devils were shut out in their 3-0 loss to Calgary, managing 22 shots on goal but failing to find the net. They gave the puck away 19 times and were unable to capitalize on any of their scoring opportunities.

NJ Devils

New Jersey was held scoreless through all three periods, including the third, when the Flames netted all three of their goals.

New Jersey’s defense held firm through the first two periods, but they gave up three goals in the third, including an empty-netter. Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves with a 93.5% save percentage, and the Devils’ defense added 5 takeaways and 22 hits.

  • Over their last three regular season games, the Devils have gone 1-2 straight up. Their record vs the puck line sits at 0-3 in these matchups, while posting a 0-3 over-under mark.
  • The Devils have gone 4-6 over their last ten regular season games. Their record vs the puck line sits at 2-8 in these matchups, while posting a 2-8 over-under mark.

The Maple Leafs Can Win If…

Following a 2-1 overtime loss to the Wild, the Maple Leafs now sit at 27-16-2 for the season. Toronto’s defense allowed the first goal at 9:41 in the first period, but William Nylander responded with a goal of his own at 19:08 in the first to tie it up. The game remained scoreless until the Wild netted the winner at 2:14 in overtime.

The total for the game was set at 6 goals, and the combined 3 goals fell well short of that mark. Toronto, as the underdog on the puck line, failed to cover. The Maple Leafs’ lone goal came on a power play, with assists from Auston Matthews and Mitchell Marner.

In their recent game against the Wild, the Maple Leafs’ offense was held to just one goal, which came on a power play. William Nylander netted his 9th goal of the season, while Auston Matthews recorded his 6th assist and Mitchell Marner added his 12th.

Maple Leafs

Toronto fired 28 shots on goal but struggled with giveaways, tallying 10 in the game. After Nylander’s goal at 19:08 in the first period, the Leafs were shut out in the second, third, and overtime periods.

Toronto’s defense gave up the first goal at 9:41 in the first period and the game-winner at 2:14 in overtime. Anthony Stolarz made 31 saves with a 93.9% save percentage. The Maple Leafs’ defense also had 2 takeaways and 30 hits.

  • Across Toronto’s last three regular season games, their record sits at 0-3. In these contests, the team went just 0-3 against the spread, while going 1-2 on the over-under.
  • Across Toronto’s last ten regular season games, their record sits at 6-4. Against the spread, Toronto went 3-7 in these games and finished with an over-under mark of 4-6.

The Lean

When it comes to a moneyline wager, I’m going with the Maple Leafs to defeat the Devils while playing at home. Given the current moneyline odds at +101, I’m placing a wager on the Maple Leafs to win outright.

If you’re looking to get a bet down on this matchup, we foresee the Maple Leafs winning the underdog. However, if you’re not as confident in the Maple Leafs straight-up, we’d still recommend placing a bet on them to cover the puck line.

With an over/under line sitting at 5.5 goals, we like this game to surpass that mark and recommend getting a bet down on the over.

Maple Leafs Look to Snap Skid Against Visiting Devils

The Toronto Maple Leafs will try to halt their three-game losing streak when they host the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night in a game that marks Sheldon Keefe’s return to Toronto as an opposing coach.

Toronto Struggling to Find Offensive Spark

The Maple Leafs (23-15-8) have dropped three straight in regulation for the first time this season, with back-to-back home losses against Vancouver (3-0) and Dallas (4-1). Their inability to capitalize on scoring chances has led to frustration both on the ice and in the stands, with fans booing the team late in both losses.

“I mean, I think it’s frustrating losing,” defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson said. “So, I think we feel the same way.”

Toronto’s power play has been a major issue, ranking 18th in the league after going 0-for-2 against Dallas while allowing the Stars to convert twice on three chances.

“We’ve got to win that battle,” coach Craig Berube said. “We’re not getting the bounces, but we’re also not executing well enough. We seem a little off on the execution part of things.”

The Maple Leafs hit two posts on their first power play against Dallas but couldn’t break through.

“Our execution can be better,” Auston Matthews said. “We’re going through adversity right now. And as much as you prefer not to go through that, sometimes it’s necessary. These are the moments where we have to come together even more.”

Adding to Toronto’s concerns, captain John Tavares left Wednesday’s practice after suffering an apparent leg injury during a power-play drill. Defenseman Jake McCabe (upper-body injury) participated in practice and could return soon.

Devils Looking to Build on Defensive Effort

New Jersey (24-18-4) has struggled in recent weeks, going 2-4-2 in its past eight games, but they played a strong defensive game in Tuesday’s 2-1 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers.

“I thought it was a solid game for us in lots of ways,” Keefe said. “You’d like to finish one or two more chances, but there’s a lot to like in a game that gave us every chance to win against a good team.”

The loss ended New Jersey’s six-game home winning streak, but the team is hoping to build off its improved defensive structure after giving up 29 goals in the previous six games.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom, who made 27 saves against Florida, emphasized the importance of staying disciplined.

“Like all teams in this league, it’s tough to get points, and you’ve got to take them when you can,” Markstrom said. “We’ve got a big game coming up.”

Season Series

Toronto has already beaten New Jersey twice this season, winning 4-2 on Oct. 10 and 2-1 in overtime on Dec. 10, both in Newark. However, with Keefe now behind the Devils’ bench, New Jersey will look for its first win against the Leafs this season.

With Toronto desperate to end its skid and New Jersey trying to climb back into the playoff mix, expect an intense battle at Scotiabank Arena.
