2022 CFL Week 6 Odds and Predictions

After five weeks of the 2022 CFL season, one thing is pretty clear. The West Division is loaded and the East is not.

Defending Grey Cup champion Winnipeg is off to a great start with a perfect 5-0 record. Right behind them is Calgary which sports an also perfect 4-0 mark. As luck would have it, the two powers will meet this week in the 2022 season’s first big showdown.

The four teams in the East – Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Hamilton – have played a total of 15 games. Among those 15 games is just two wins. The Argonauts and the Alouettes have one each. Ottawa and Hamilton have yet to win a game.

One of them has to this week. The Redblacks and Tiger-Cats meet in a battle of winless teams. Here’s a look at the 2022 CFL Week 6 odds and predictions.

Edmonton Elks vs. Montreal Alouettes

Spread: MTL -8 / Total: 48.5 Points

It’s almost hard to believe, but 1-3 Montreal is an 8-point favorite over 1-4 Edmonton. There is good reason. Edmonton got smoked by Calgary 49-6 last week and lost starting QB Tre Ford to a collarbone injury that will keep him out of the lineup for the near future. With Nick Arbuckle traded to Ottawa, the Elks will start Taylor Cornelius at quarterback.

On the other end, Montreal fired head coach Khari Jones and has quarterback issues of their own. Vernon Adams remains out and Trevor Harris will start.

Neither team is very good defensively. Edmonton gives up over 37 points per game. Montreal allows 26 per game. The two teams have had some shootouts in the past. The last five point totals are 43, 66, 30, 57, and 64.

As bad as the defenses are, the quarterback issues on offense won’t produce a lot of points on Thursday. Can’t trust Montreal to cover a touchdown-plus spread, nor can you trust Edmonton to cover. Take the under.

PREDICTION: UNDER 48.5

Calgary Stampeders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Spread: WPG -4 / Total: 45 Points

It’s the first big showdown of the 2022 CFL season. Calgary blew out Edmonton as expected last week. The Stampeders offense, led by QB Bo Levi Mitchell, is averaging 35.5 points per game.

Winnipeg and QB Zach Collaros have been sharp all season so far. Where the Blue Bombers fail somewhat is on defense where they are allowing 313.4 passing yards per game.

Calgary is 8-4 ATS in its last 12 games and 6-1 ATS in its last seven on the road. The last two games in this series were decided by a total of three points. Back Calgary to keep this one close.

PREDICTION: CALGARY +4

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Toronto Argonauts

Spread: SSK -2 / Total: 44 Points

The Roughriders are 4-1 thanks to a 28-13 win over Ottawa last week. Toronto had a bye after losing by a single point to Winnipeg the week prior. The Argo only win was a 20-19 victory over Montreal.

Saskatchewan averages 131.4 rushing yards per game, which is a plus since QB Cody Fajardo is nursing a knee injury. Toronto allows 4.8 yards per carry.

The Roughriders have won eight of the last ten head-to-head matchups and they have covered the spread in seven of the ten. Saskatchewan has won the last three against Toronto by 15, 25, and 25 points. They’ll cover again this week.

PREDICTION: SASKATCHEWAN -2

Ottawa Redblacks vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Spread: HAM -6.5 / Total: 44 Points

Somebody has to win, right? Hamilton is a 6.5-point favorite to beat the Redblacks. The big reason why is Ottawa QB Jeremiah Masoli is out. He may be out for the season too, which is not good for the Redblacks.

Arbuckle (acquired via trade) could get the start for Ottawa or it may be Caleb Evans. Either way, Ottawa will have a tough time.

Ottawa is 1-10 SU in its last 11 games and 6-16 ATS in its last 22. Hamilton is 17-5 SU in its last 22 home games. Hamilton has won the last four in the series and won all four by double digits. Back the Ti-Cats to cover against an Ottawa team with quarterback issues.

PREDICTION: HAMILTON -6.5
