NFL Week 1 Starting Quarterback Props Odds and Picks

Once the NFL released the official 2021 regular season schedule, online sportsbooks responded with a grocery list of betting options for Week 1.

As far as Week 1 quarterback props, a popular betting option sets odds for four different teams where the competition for the starting job could be heated right up until opening day.

Chicago Bears Starting QB Prop Bet

The three-player race for the Chicago Bears‘ starting QB job in Week 1 has Andy Dalton set as a -250 favorite. Rookie Justin Fields is next at +200 odds followed by veteran Nick Foles as a +1600 longshot.

Dalton got a chance to resurrect his career in Dallas last season with mixed results. However, it is easy to see why he is the favorite in this prop.

Chicago head coach Matt Nagy may try and ease Fields into the starting role depending on how the season progresses. Getting the start right out of the gate against the Los Angeles Rams in a tough road matchup seams unlikely but the value in Fields’ odds is worth a small play.

Free Pick: Justin Fields +200

New England Patriots Starting QB Prop Bet

Cam Newton is the clear favorite to get the start in Week 1 at -278 odds. Mac Jones is next at +275 followed by Jarrett Stidham as a +900 longshot.

Trying to predict any Bill Belichick decision as the long-time coach of New England has proven to be hard to do. However, I do believe that Newton will get a chance to start the season under center for the New England Patriots.

Jones is a promising rookie that slipped to New England in the opening round of the draft. However, he is probably going to spend some time on the bench before he gets his shot.

Free Pick: Cam Newton -278

San Francisco 49ers Starting QB Prop Bet

There are four quarterbacks vying for the starting job led by the incumbent Jimmy Garoppolo as the -278 favorite. Rookie Trey Lance is next at +220 followed by Josh Rosen (+3300) and Nate Sudfeld (+4000).

The San Francisco 49ers used the third overall pick of the 2021 draft to select Lance but I see him as the team’s quarterback of the future. Head coach Kyle Shanahan could try and rush the process given a road opener against Detroit but I am backing off that play.

Garoppolo should get the start but San Francisco brought in Rosen for a reason. If you were looking to play a longshot in any of these four props, this would be the best opportunity.

Free Pick: Josh Rosen +3300

New Orleans Saints Starting QB Prop Bet

With Drew Brees retired, Jameis Winston is the favorite to get the Week 1 start at -200 odds. Taysom Hill is second on the board at +145 followed by Ian Book (+3300) as the team’s fourth- round NFL draft pick from Notre Dame.

This could be the most interesting prop options of the four. Winston was on the New Orleans Saints roster last season with minimal playing time. Head coach Sean Payton must have seen something he liked since the team did nothing to replace the huge void left by Brees.

Hill has been the team’s jack-of-all-trades since being drafted by the Saints in 2017. He will get a chance to compete for the starting role at quarterback and could very well get the nod against Green Bay in Week 1.

Free Pick: Taysom Hill +145
