North Carolina Brings ‘Sense of Emergency’ to Clemson Showdown
North Carolina knows its season is at a crossroads, and Monday’s matchup at Clemson presents another major test. After a shaky stretch, the Tar Heels (14-10, 7-5 ACC) edged Pitt 67-66 on Saturday in a game they viewed as a must-win.
North Carolina Fighting to Stay on Track
With losses piling up, head coach Hubert Davis has called for a heightened level of focus from his team.
“I think you should play like that every day, every possession,” Davis said. “It’s not a sense of urgency. It’s a sense of emergency.”
The Tar Heels are trying to build momentum after closing out a tight game successfully.
“We’ve been on the wrong side of it too many times,” guard Elliot Cadeau said. “It feels good to be on the good side now.”
Clemson Riding High After Upset Win
The Tigers (19-5, 11-2 ACC) are coming off one of their biggest wins of the season, taking down No. 2 Duke 77-71 at home on Saturday.
Fans stormed the court after the victory, and Clemson will try to recreate that energy as it hosts another college basketball powerhouse.
“This place is special when it’s like this,” head coach Brad Brownell said. “It certainly affects the outcome of the game.”
Clemson has already knocked off Kentucky and Duke at Littlejohn Coliseum this season.
“Knowing we’re built for it,” guard Chase Hunter said. “We’ve been in a lot of close games, big games. Making sure we stay confident.”
