Mavericks Take On Kings Without Anthony Davis
The Dallas Mavericks are still adjusting to life after Luka Doncic, but Anthony Davis’ electric debut on Saturday showed why the team made a blockbuster trade for him.
Davis dominated early, but the excitement faded late in the third quarter when he left with a non-contact injury. While the Mavs insist the move was precautionary, Davis has been ruled out for Monday’s home game against the Sacramento Kings due to a left adductor strain.

Davis’ Big Debut, Cut Short
In his first game for Dallas, Davis put on a historic first-half performance:
- 24 points (9-of-13 shooting)
- 13 rebounds
- 5 assists
- 3 blocks
He became the first player since 1996-97 to rack up at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks in a single half. But after experiencing tightness in his leg, Davis didn’t return in the fourth quarter. Despite that, the Mavs still took down the Rockets, 116-105.
“I was playing on a lot of emotions,” Davis said postgame. “Dallas fans know what they got in a player like me. Just a little friendly reminder of who Anthony Davis is.”
Sacramento Adjusting Without Fox
The Kings also had a major trade deadline shake-up, sending De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs in a deal that brought in Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, and six draft picks.
Sacramento dropped LaVine’s first two games, but bounced back with a 123-118 win over the Pelicans on Saturday.
“You can talk about a lot and you can watch film,” LaVine said, “but there’s no supplement for experience. We’re getting it down, but you’ve got to do it on the fly.”
Key Players to Watch
With Davis out, Dallas will turn to Kyrie Irving (24.1 PPG) to lead the charge. Meanwhile, Sacramento’s core remains strong with:
- DeMar DeRozan: 21.5 PPG
- Domantas Sabonis: 20.5 PPG, NBA-leading 14.3 RPG
- Malik Monk: 18.0 PPG
Head-to-Head Matchup
The Kings won the first meeting of the season, 110-100 back on Dec. 30. With Davis sidelined and Sacramento still adjusting to its new lineup, this rematch could go either way.
- Game Time: Monday, 8:30 PM ET
- Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas
Can Kyrie step up and carry the Mavs? Or will the Kings take advantage of Davis’ absence?
