Clemson Riding High Ahead of ACC Battle at Florida State
No. 23 Clemson heads into Saturday’s ACC matchup at Florida State with all the momentum after a historic stretch, securing consecutive wins over Duke and North Carolina for the first time since 2019-20.
The Tigers (20-5, 12-2 ACC) are playing some of their best basketball of the season and have their sights set on another ACC regular-season title, while Florida State (15-9, 6-7 ACC) is looking to build on its recent two-game winning streak as it fights for tournament positioning.
Clemson’s Statement Week: Wins Over Duke & UNC
Clemson made waves last weekend by snapping then-No. 2 Duke’s 16-game winning streak with a 77-71 upset, sending their home crowd into a frenzy. The win propelled Clemson into the AP Top 25 rankings, and the Tigers followed it up with a dominant 85-65 rout of North Carolina on Monday.
It was the first time since the 2019-20 season that Clemson beat both Duke and UNC in the same year, a testament to head coach Brad Brownell’s squad peaking at the right time.
Chase Hunter has been a scoring machine, averaging 17.6 points per game while shooting 43.8% from three-point range, ranking among the nation’s top 20 shooters.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati transfer Viktor Lakhin is proving to be a major X-factor.
“When his emotions are intact and he’s composed and thinking clearly, he’s a very good player,” Brownell said of Lakhin. “He cares. He wants to do well.”
Lakhin put up 22 points, four rebounds, and three blocks in the Duke upset and is averaging 11.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game this season.
Florida State Fighting to Stay in the ACC Mix
Florida State is tied for eighth in the ACC standings, but the Seminoles are heating up at the right time. They’ve won two straight games since coach Leonard Hamilton announced he will retire at season’s end, defeating Wake Forest 72-70 on Wednesday after trailing by 16 points in the second half.
Jamir Watkins has been the Seminoles’ go-to scorer, averaging 18.2 points per game, while Malique Ewin is an interior force with 8.2 rebounds per contest.

Clemson Won First Matchup Handily
In their first meeting on Jan. 11, Clemson dominated Florida State 77-57, draining 13 three-pointers and outscoring the Seminoles by 13 points in the second half. Ewin had 15 points and 10 rebounds, but Florida State couldn’t keep up with the Tigers’ efficient offense. With Clemson rolling and Florida State battling for its tournament life, can the Tigers complete the season sweep, or will the Seminoles pull off an upset at home?
