2021 RSM Classic Odds and Predictions

The RSM Classic has only been on the PGA schedule since 2010 and it has become one of the treasured events of the fall. It’s a full-field tournament with a purse now pushing towards 8 million dollars. It now regularly attracts some of the bigger names on Tour and is played on two courses.

Wait – two courses? Yep, due to the full field and shrinking daylight hours this time of year, the tournament makes use of both courses at the Sea Island Golf Club. The Saint Simons Island venue uses both the Seaside Course and the Plantation Course.

Last year Robert Streb became the first two-time winner of the Classic backing up his 2014 win. Both wins came after a playoff! That’s not uncommon. If there is a common factor about the RSM Classic is the fact that this event often ends with a playoff.

Five of the last six RSM Classics have ended with playoff holes. Overall, in its eleven-year history, the Classic has ended with a playoff six times!

This year’s field is packed with “big-name” players and seasoned PGA Tour journeymen which means there is value all down the odds list. Here are the favorites coming in at +2200 and under to win the 2021 RSM Classic outright according to Intertops.

Where: Saint Simons Island, Georgia

Course: Sea Island Golf Club – Two Courses

Par: 70 Seaside / Plantation 72

Length: 7005 Seaside / 7060 Plantation

When: November 18 –21, 2021

Purse: $7.2 million

Coverage: Golf Channel/PGA Sirrius

The RSM Classic is held at the scenic Sea Island Golf Club. Because of the shortened hours of daylight, the event uses both courses – the slightly shorter Seaside Course and the Plantation Course. The first two rounds will see every player on both courses with the weekend taking place on the Seaside course only.

That setup forces players to prepare a bit differently mentally as they can’t concentrate on one set of 18 holes over four days. They have to play two different courses before the weekend cut. Both courses are gently rolling with moderate elevation changes. Seaside Island makes full use of scenic views and water features as well as inland marsh grasses. There is a nice balance of open fairways and holes that play over water and marshy grass areas. The Plantation course is a beautiful classic Southern venue.

Look for hot putters and short irons around the medium to large greens to play a major factor in the outcome. Tee shots on both courses can be slightly off the mark on many holes as landing areas are generous by PGA standards. That being said, the course has plenty of well- placed bunkers and tricky roughs.

Webb Simpson +1200

Webb Simpson has never won the RSM Classic but he’s been close. He’s been the player that has lost one of the regular RSM playoffs twice. Simpson finished his last event T14 at the Summit Club and he has a perfect short game for this event.

Harris English +2500

Harris English has become one of the PGA players that you can never count out during an event. English finished T6 here last year with his calculated style of play – and his poker face. One note, English has been nursing a back pull that forced him out of a tournament a month ago. If he’s healthy, he’s a threat on Sunday.

Kevin Kisner +4000

Kevin Kisner has become the leader when it comes to money at Seaside. He won here in 2015 and was P2 in 2020 and he has carded five top-ten finishes at this tournament. Kinser has a recent win under his belt as well. He won the Wyndham Championship three months ago.

Others: Robert Streb (+6600) has won this tournament twice. He knows how to carve up both courses at the Saint Simmon venue. Luke List (+8000) has been close to winning over the last two seasons. He has one of the stronger short games on Tour. His downfall is a strong putter that can go agonizingly cold for a few holes.
