Who Won The Mexico Open at VidantaWorld 2024?

In 2024, Jake Knapp claimed victory at the Mexico Open, finishing with an impressive 19-under-par to secure his first and only PGA Tour win. Knapp edged out Finland’s Sami Välimäki, who finished 2nd at 17-under.

Big names like Tony Finau and Jon Rahm have also won the Mexico Open in recent years, though neither player will participate in this year’s edition. That’ll make this a fairly wide-open competition as the Mexico Open odds below reflect.

Akshay Bhatia (+1400)

Akshay Bhatia is the favorite heading into the 2025 Mexico Open. The 23-year-old Los Angeles native is one of the PGA Tour’s rising young stars, and he’ll look to pick up his first win of 2025 south of the border this weekend.

Bhatia has been busy to start the new season, but his results haven’t been great. Bhatia didn’t finish better than a tie for 22nd place at any of The Sentry, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, or the WM Phoenix Open in the season’s first 3 starts. He did bounce back a bit last week, however, by finishing in a tie for 9th at The Genesis Invitational down in San Diego.

Bhatia didn’t play in last year’s Mexico Open, but he picked up an impressive 4th-place finish at this event back in 2022-23. Bhatia never posted a round north of 70 in that year’s event, including an incredible 63 in the 3rd round that year. Bhatia has 2 career wins on the PGA Tour, and he stands a great chance of claiming a 3rd at this event thanks to the watered-down field.

Rasmus Højgaard (+1800)

Rasmus Højgaard is another top favorite, known for his consistency and powerful driving. He’s had a solid start to the season and could be a threat at Vidanta Vallarta.

Højgaard finished 22nd and 12th at his first 2 starts of 2025 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the WM Phoenix Open, respectively. Things took a turn for the worse last week at Torrey Pines, however. The Denmark native shot an 82 and a 77 in the first 2 rounds and ultimately missed the cut entirely.

Here’s hoping that was a blip on the radar, especially considering Højgaard was in terrific form prior to that hiccup. He’d racked up 5 top-20 finishes across his previous 7 starts. Per the Data Golf rankings, Højgaard is currently the 36th-ranked player in the world. In this year’s Mexico Open field, the only player ranked higher than Højgaard happens to be Bhatia. At +1800, you can do worse than a flier on the 23-year-old.

Sam Stevens (+2200)

Sam Stevens has been quietly climbing the ranks, and his recent performances suggest he’s ready to break through with a big win. Stevens’ form so far this season has been hit-or-miss, but he did claim a solo 2nd-place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in late January. That was good enough to earn him over $1 million in winnings, which was his biggest PGA Tour triumph to date.

Steven has never won on the tour, but he’ll stand a good chance to break through this week. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy narrowly missed the cut at last year’s Mexico Open at Vidanta Vallarta after shooting 71 and 73, respectively.

In addition to that 2nd-place finish at the Farmers, Stevens has finished 59th, 51st, 17th, 44th, and 31st. That 31st-place outing was last week at The Genesis.

Stevens offers intriguing upside at the +2200 odds to win, though his failure to even make the cut at last year’s tournament does give me a bit of pause.

The Best Mexico Open Betting Value

The following golfers offer betting value based on their current odds and past success at the Mexico Open:

Ben Griffin (+3000)

Ben Griffin is a golfer to watch at the Mexico Open. He’s been playing well recently and has the skills to compete on this course. Griffin has made the cut in 5 of his 6 starts to begin the 2025 campaign, including a terrific 7th-place showing at The American Express in the middle of January. No, not the credit card.

That was his only serious challenge for a win, however. Griffin took a 36th-place finish at the WM Phoenix Open before a tie for 44th last week at Torrey Pines.

This will be Griffin’s first start at the Mexico Open since the 2021-22 campaign when he missed the cut. Things got off to a promising start with a 67 in the first round, but a 74 in the 2nd round ultimately doomed his chances. Griffin’s putting – which is typically a strength – has been inconsistent in recent events. The greens at Vidanta Vallarta are resort-style, which could give him a chance to round back into form in that department.

At +3000, he’s a great value bet to pick up the first PGA Tour win of his career.

Kevin Yu (+3500)

Kevin Yu is another golfer who offers excellent betting value at +3500. He’s shown flashes of brilliance this season and could surprise many with a strong performance at Vidanta Vallarta.

Yu missed the cut in back-to-back weeks at the AmEx and the Farmers Insurance Open in January, but he’s picked up consecutive top-20 finishes at the WM Phoenix Open and The Genesis Invitational. Yu finished tied for 16th in Phoenix before finishing 17th last week in San Diego.

This will be Yu’s first career shot at the Mexico Open, so there’s some uncertainty baked into the aforementioned +3500 odds to win it.

The Top Mexico Open Longshot

Nicolai Højgaard (+4000) is my favorite longshot bet for the Mexico Open. While he’s not as well-known as some of the other players, he has the talent to compete with the best. Not to be confused with his aforementioned twin brother, Rasmus, this Højgaard has only played one PGA Tour event so far in ’25. He finished tied for 36th at the WM Phoenix Open a couple of weeks ago at 7-under.

Højgaard finished tied for 52nd at Vidanta Vallarta last year and tied for 33rd the year before that. Having made the cut in each of his 2 previous starts at this course has to be encouraging, and the weakened field makes his +4000 odds to win it this time around look a little longer than they should be.

At +4000, he’s worth a small wager for those looking for a high-reward bet.

The Mexico Open at VidantaWorld Predictions

Picking the favorite is generally lame, but my favorite bet to win the 2025 Mexico Open is Akshay Bhatia.

Bhatia is the top-ranked player in the field, and I like his chances of seizing this opportunity. Without having to compete with the likes of Rahm, Finau, Scottie Scheffler, and other PGA Tour powerhouses, Bhatia should rise to the occasion and get himself into the running.

Plus, the +1400 odds on Bhatia to win it offer good upside. I think he’ll break through and claim his 3rd-career PGA Tour victory this weekend.

Best Top 5 Finish

Rasmus Højgaard (+360) will be eager to put last week’s dismal showing at The Genesis behind him as quickly as possible. Given his phenomenal form prior to last week’s slip-up, I like his chances of doing just that.

Højgaard is one of the more consistent players on the tour, even if he doesn’t have a whole lot to show for it in terms of victories. Even if he falls just shy of actually winning this event, Højgaard’s +360 odds on a top-5 finish look awfully appealing. He’s due.

Best Top 10 Finish

Ben Griffin (+280) I mentioned that the course at Vidanta Vallarta should suit Griffin’s putter well. It’s betrayed him at recent tournaments, but he has a solid chance of bouncing back given the way the greens set up fairly easily at this course.

Griffin’s +3000 odds to win the Mexico Open may be a bridge too far, but the +280 odds on him to crack a top-10 finish look too high.

Best Value Bet for Top 10 Finish

Kevin Yu (+300) is my pick for a value bet to finish in the top 10. He’s shown he can compete with the best, and at +300, he’s a great option for bettors looking for a high-reward wager.
