Early 2023 March Madness Futures Betting Odds

Kansas’ 2022 national championship is still fresh on our minds, but it is never too early to look ahead to next season. The Jayhawks dramatic second half comeback capped off what March Madness is all about.

In 2023, some of the usual suspects will contend for a national title. There may be some surprises here and there.

One of those might be the team at the top of the board right now. Duke said goodbye to legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewksi in a Final Four loss to North Carolina. With that, the Jon Scheyer era begins and it could be a doozy of a first season in Durham.

Here are the early 2023 March Madness futures betting odds.

Duke Marches On

For the first time since 1980 (Jimmy Carter was still the U.S. president for those old enough to remember), Krzyzewski will not be a part of the Duke coaching staff.

The Blue Devils will likely lose six players from the 2022 team including potential No. 1 NBA draft pick Paolo Banchero. Not to worry, Duke is bringing in four five-star recruits including the MVP of the McDonald’s All-American game, Dariq Whitehead.

Scheyer might start four freshmen next year, but he will have the talent to win it all. That’s why Duke sits atop the betting board at +900.

More Bluebloods

The next three spots on the board belong to true blueblood programs – North Carolina, Kentucky, and Kansas. The Wildcats were upset in the first round of this year’s tournament that ended with the Tar Heels facing the Jayhawks.

The Tar Heels (+1100) will be much better if Caleb Love and Armando Bacot stick around, but they have two top 50 recruits plus a handful of returnees that have been developing. Head coach Hubert Davis will have plenty to work with next season.

Kentucky (+1200) could move up the board even higher depending upon what Oscar Tshiebwe does next year. If he returns, the Wildcats would have the nation’s leading rebounder back along with Sahvir Wheeler and Keion Brooks. Then, add in five-star recruits Cason Wallace and Chris Livingston.

Don’t forget this year’s national title winner – Kansas. The Jayhawks are also listed at +1200 and will lose a ton of talent from this year’s team. Head coach Bill Self could lose virtually his entire starting lineup. Still, he will have the talent necessary to win another Big 12 title and compete for the NCAA championship.

Kansas has three elite recruits – all three are in the top 25 of the ESPN 100 – that will give Self what he needs to make another title run. He may also get one or two of his players from this season to stick around and not go pro.

The Sleeper

If you’re looking for a sleeper, the best candidate may be Arkansas. They are listed at +1400 and are near the top of the board, but this is not a program that has been among the elites Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Kansas.

The Razorbacks have made two consecutive trips to the Elite Eight. If Au’Diese Toney and/or Jaylin Williams return next season, head coach Eric Musselman will have the makings of a national champion.

Musselman gets three five-star recruits including guard Anthony Black who is expected to make a big splash in Fayetteville.
