A new season of college football is less than three months away. Last year’s disruptive schedule is a thing of the past as the excitement grows for another run to a national title. Take a look at the early 2022 College Football National Championship odds.
Making the four-team 2022 College Football Playoff (CFP) may be the ultimate goal for the top-ranked teams in the country. However, a big part of the process in getting there starts with winning your conference championship.

Sooners Favored to Reach Big 12 Conference Final
Any discussion of the Big 12 usually starts with the Oklahoma Sooners as a true national power. They slipped to 6-2 in conference play last season to finish a game and a half behind the surprising Iowa State Cyclones in the final standings.
The Sooners went on to beat Iowa State 27-21 in the conference final as 5.5-point favorites. They closed out the 2020 season with an impressive 55-20 romp over the SEC’s Florida Gators as 7.5-point favorites.
The goal this year is a return trip to the college football playoff after coming up short last season. Oklahoma was in the four-team field the previous three years.
The betting odds that Oklahoma is in this season’s Big 12 title game are set at -335. That adds quite a bit of risk to that bet. However, betting against the Sooners finishing first or second in the conference makes no sense.
Iowa State is next on the board at -110. Despite last season’s success, it is hard to find all that much value in that number. The Cyclones should remain in the mix all season long. However, they face Baylor, West Virginia and Oklahoma on the road this season. A showdown against the Texas Longhorns at home on Nov. 6 could go a long way to defining Iowa State’s postseason fortunes.
Longhorns Offer Best Value at Plus Money Odds
A higher value wager for this futures betting market are the Longhorns at +135 to reach the conference final. After going 5-3 in Big 12 play last season to finish fourth in the standings, this is a make or break season for this program.
Texas has been trying to work its way back into college football’s national picture but it has continually come up short with one or two bad losses a season. An early loss to TCU as a 10.5- point home favorite derailed those plans in 2020. The year before, the Longhorns dropped three of their last five conference games to miss out on the title game.
Expectations are once again running high at Texas with Steve Sarkisian leading the way as head coach. That circled date against Iowa State on the road is the key to getting another shot at Oklahoma in early December in the conference final.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys should also be in the mix after going 6-3 in conference play last year. Their odds to finish in the top two and play in the Big 12 title game are set at +300. However, getting past Iowa State and Texas will be a tall task.
