Utah Hockey Club Continues Playoff Push Against Struggling Blackhawks

The Utah Hockey Club is gaining momentum in its inaugural NHL season, and Tuesday night’s showdown against the Chicago Blackhawks presents another golden opportunity to inch closer to a playoff spot.

With four wins in their last six games (4-2-0), Utah is surging at the right time. Their most recent victory, a 2-1 statement win over the Vancouver Canucks, was crucial—pulling them within four points of the final Western Conference wild-card spot.

Now, with 24 games remaining, every game matters.

DYLAN GUENTHER LEADING UTAH’S CHARGE

Dylan Guenther has been unstoppable during Utah’s hot streak. His game-winning power-play goal against Vancouver extended his six-game point streak (5 goals, 4 assists) and showcased just how valuable the 21-year-old forward has become in Utah’s push for the postseason.

Guenther now leads the team with 21 goals, and even though he’s still young, he’s embracing the high-stakes playoff chase:

“This is why you work hard to play in moments like this,” Guenther said. “I think it’ll help us, not just this year, but as we continue to get a little bit older as a team. Just getting that exposure is huge.”

Utah dominated the Canucks in shots (32-15) but couldn’t break through until Guenther’s clutch goal late in the third period.

Utah’s power play has been red-hot, going 6-for-12 over the last four games. However, their penalty kill has struggled, allowing five goals on 10 chances in that same stretch.

They’ll need to tighten up defensively against a Blackhawks team that, despite their record, boasts a dangerous power-play unit.

CHICAGO SEARCHING FOR A TURNAROUND

The Blackhawks (1-4-2 in their last seven games) have struggled since returning from the NHL’s two-week break, suffering back-to-back losses to Columbus and Toronto over the weekend.

Teuvo Teravainen voiced his frustration after Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs:

“It’s disappointing. After a break, we need to come back and play some good hockey,” Teravainen said. “Now, just a couple tough losses back-to-back. We’ve got to learn, see some video, and get better.”

Despite their tough season, Connor Bedard continues to shine. The second-year phenom leads the team with 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists) in 57 games and remains a must-watch player every night.

One of the few bright spots for Chicago has been their special teams:

  • Power Play: 25.2% (Top 10 in the NHL)
  • Penalty Kill: 81.2% (Also Top 10 in the NHL)

Their power play has been scorching hot, converting 5-of-10 over the last five games. If Utah takes too many penalties, it could give Chicago a chance to steal this game.

GOALTENDING MATCHUP: WHO GETS THE START?

  • CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS:Petr Mrazek (Expected Starter)
    • Record: 10-19-2
    • GAA: 3.33
    • Save Percentage: .894
  • UTAH HOCKEY CLUB:Connor Ingram (Expected Starter)
    • Last 6 Games: 1-3-1
    • Save Percentage: .881

With Karel Vejmelka playing against Vancouver, Connor Ingram is expected to get the nod for Utah. He’s looking to bounce back after a rough recent stretch.

Mrazek, meanwhile, is expected to start for Chicago after Arvid Soderblom played against Toronto. The veteran netminder has been inconsistent, and the Blackhawks will need a strong performance from him to have a chance against Utah’s surging offense.

  • Chicago is desperate to end a losing streak and avoid another rough stretch.
  • Power plays will be key—both teams have been red-hot with the man advantage.
