Jets Look to Avenge Shootout Loss Against Flyers
Jets, Flyers Face Off in High-Stakes Rematch
The Winnipeg Jets will not have to wait long for a shot at redemption.
Just five days after falling to the Philadelphia Flyers in a shootout, the Jets will take the ice at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night looking to end their three-game slide and reclaim their winning form.
Meanwhile, the Flyers are also seeking a bounce-back win after a tough 6-3 loss to Calgary on Tuesday, setting the stage for an intense, must-watch matchup.
Jets Seeking Answers After Three-Game Skid
Winnipeg has been one of the most consistent teams in the NHL this season, but they find themselves in a rare offensive slump.
After scoring just four total goals over their past three games, the Jets have dropped to 0-2-1 in their last three outings—their worst stretch since early December.
“We’re in the funk right now when it comes to scoring goals,“ said Jets coach Scott Arniel. “Teams go through these. You look around the league, a lot’s happened in different spots.”
The Jets’ latest loss came on Tuesday, when they fell 3-2 on the road against the New York Islanders.
Winnipeg dominated in stretches but couldn’t capitalize enough on their chances. Nikolaj Ehlers and Josh Morrissey provided the only two goals, and the team once again struggled to generate consistent offensive pressure.
“Just got to stay with it,” Arniel emphasized. “For us, it’s making sure that we’re defending well. We’ve got to win these games 1-0. We’ll have to work to do that. But at the end of the day, I like that effort.”
With the Flyers on deck, the Jets need to find their scoring touch fast if they want to avoid a fourth straight loss.

Flyers Also Looking to Rebound After Blowout Loss
While the Jets are struggling to score, the Flyers are trying to recover from a defensive meltdown.
Philadelphia surrendered four first-period goals against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday in a 6-3 defeat, snapping their five-game point streak (4-0-1).
“Tough in any game going down,” Flyers forward Noah Cates admitted. “Building’s quiet, just not finding any area of our game. (Defensive) zone, neutral zone, offensive zone, we couldn’t seem to find some traction.”
Goaltender Samuel Ersson had a tough night, giving up three goals on just five shots before being pulled for Ivan Fedotov.
Fedotov, who was stellar in the shootout win over Winnipeg last Saturday, played well in relief—stopping 26 of 28 shots.
Now, Flyers coach John Tortorella must decide whether to turn back to Fedotov against the Jets or give Ersson a chance to redeem himself.
“He’s been steady,” Travis Konecny said of Ersson. “He’s the reason we’ve been able to stay in the race for the playoffs. (We have) all the confidence in him.”
Regardless of who starts in goal, the Flyers will need a much better start against a Jets team eager for revenge.
Hellebuyck vs. Fedotov (or Ersson) – A Key Goaltending Battle
One of the biggest storylines heading into the game is whether Connor Hellebuyck can steal a win for Winnipeg.
The Vezina Trophy front-runner has been outstanding all season:
- Leads the NHL with six shutouts
- Ranks first in goals-against average (2.01)
- Tops the league in save percentage (.926)
However, he hasn’t posted a shutout since Jan. 11, and with Winnipeg’s offense struggling, the Jets might need a dominant goaltending performance to secure a victory.
On the other side, if the Flyers start Fedotov, they could have an edge in confidence after his brilliant performance against the Jets in their last meeting.
If Ersson gets the nod, he will be under pressure to bounce back from a rough outing vs. Calgary.

Key Players to Watch
Winnipeg Jets
- Mark Scheifele (C) – Leads the Jets with 34 goals and remains their top offensive threat.
- Kyle Connor (LW) – Needs to break out of his slump to get Winnipeg’s offense rolling again.
- Connor Hellebuyck (G) – Could be the difference-maker if the Jets can’t find their scoring touch.
Philadelphia Flyers
- Matvei Michkov (RW) – Rookie scored the shootout winner against the Jets last Saturday.
- Travis Konecny (RW) – One of the Flyers’ most consistent offensive producers.
- Ivan Fedotov (G) – If he starts, his 6-foot-7 frame and strong positioning could frustrate the Jets again.

Revenge or Repeat? What’s at Stake
For Winnipeg, Thursday’s game is about more than just snapping a losing streak. It’s an opportunity to avenge their frustrating shootout loss and get back on track before their Central Division rivals pull further ahead.
For Philadelphia, a win would help solidify their playoff positioning while proving that Tuesday’s defensive collapse was just a blip.
Both teams badly need a victory, which should make for a high-intensity showdown at Wells Fargo Center.
