UConn Aims to Improve Seed, Get Revenge vs. Seton Hall
UConn has secured a bye in next week’s Big East tournament, but its final seeding remains up in the air. As the two-time defending champions look to close the regular season on a high note, they aim for revenge against Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon in Storrs, Conn.
Huskies Seeking Momentum Before Big East Tournament
UConn (21-9, 13-6 Big East) has the potential to finish anywhere between second and fourth in the standings, depending on Saturday’s results. A victory over Seton Hall guarantees at least the No. 3 seed, while a Creighton loss to Butler and a three-way tie with Marquette could push the Huskies up to No. 2. However, a loss combined with a Marquette win would drop them to No. 4, possibly setting up a semifinal clash with regular-season champion St. John’s.

Head coach Dan Hurley believes UConn thrives in March, leaning on the program’s championship pedigree.
“We have this belief that when you play or coach at UConn, in the month of March and you get things rolling, you’re convinced you’re supposed to win,” Hurley said. “We have a mental edge on a lot of people in the month of March.”
After splitting 12 games from Jan. 8 to Feb. 23—including two losses to St. John’s and an overtime collapse against Seton Hall—UConn has rebounded with wins over Georgetown, Providence, and Marquette. Improved defense has been a key factor, as the Huskies limited Providence to 40 percent shooting in a 75-63 win and held Marquette to just 3-of-22 from beyond the arc in Wednesday’s 72-66 victory.
Forward Alex Karaban has regained his shooting touch, tying a season-high with 21 points against Marquette. Over his last four games, he is shooting 22-of-48 from the field and 9-of-21 from three-point range after enduring a rough stretch (6-of-47 from deep) in his previous nine contests.
Seton Hall Looking to Salvage a Disappointing Season
Seton Hall (7-23, 2-17 Big East) is wrapping up its worst regular season since 1982-83. The Pirates have lost five straight since stunning UConn in overtime three weeks ago. While they kept three of those games competitive, their offensive struggles were on full display Tuesday in a 79-61 loss to Creighton, where they shot just 35.8 percent. It was the 16th time this season they failed to reach 40 percent shooting.
Head coach Shaheen Holloway had hoped his team was turning a corner before the Creighton loss.
“I thought we were peaking and I thought we played some really good games. Even though we lost, I thought we gave ourselves a chance to win,” Holloway said. “… Creighton came in and just jumped on us from the door.”
Isaiah Coleman has been one of the few bright spots, scoring in double figures in seven straight games, including a 23-point outing against UConn in their last meeting. The Pirates will need another big performance from him to have a chance at an upset in Storrs.
