The Pistons Can Win If…

Detroit’s record fell to 35-29 after a 115-110 road loss to the Warriors on Saturday. The Pistons entered the game as +5 point underdogs, and the final score resulted in a push. The combined points of 225 fell short of the 236.5 O/U line.

Detroit took a 3-point lead into the 4th quarter after outscoring Golden State 34-29 in the 2nd quarter and matching them 33-33 in the 3rd. However, the Pistons were outscored 31-23 in the final period, leading to the loss.

Cade Cunningham’s 31-point performance, including 19 in the 3rd quarter, led the Pistons in their 115-110 loss to the Warriors. Malik Beasley added 17 points, with 7 coming in the 3rd, while Tobias Harris contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds, scoring 9 in the final quarter.

Detroit struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 5 threes at 21.7% efficiency, though they shot 45.9% overall. Cunningham made 2 threes at 66.7%, and Beasley also connected on 2, despite shooting just 28.6% from deep.

Defensively, the Pistons started strong, giving up just 22 points in the 1st quarter, but they couldn’t maintain that pace, allowing 33 points in the 3rd and 31 in the 4th. Overall, they gave up 115 points on 41% shooting to the Warriors.

Detroit did well defending the three, holding Golden State to 29% from deep with 12 made threes. The Pistons also recorded 12 steals and 4 blocks in the game.

  • Although Detroit has a straight up record of 5-5 in their last ten road games, they have not held up as well vs the spread going 5-4-1. The team averaged 121 points per game in these games.
  • Looking back on the team’s last ten games as the favorite, the Pistons have a straight up record of 8-2. Their record vs the spread in these games was 7-3.

The Trail Blazers Can Win If…

The Trail Blazers fell to 28-36 on the season after a 107-89 loss to the Thunder on Friday. Portland, who entered the game as +1.5 point underdogs, failed to cover the spread. The combined score of 196 points was well below the O/U line of 228.

A 12-0 run by the Thunder early in the game put Portland on their heels. Despite a strong 3rd quarter where they outscored OKC 28-17, the Blazers couldn’t keep up in the 4th, managing just 16 points while the Thunder pulled away with 27.

The Trail Blazers struggled offensively in their 107-89 loss to the Thunder, shooting just 34.7% from the field and hitting only 8 threes at an 18.6% clip. Scoot Henderson led the way with 22 points, shooting 53.3% from the field and 40% from deep, while Shaedon Sharpe added 19 points on 50% shooting.

Pistons Look to Snap Losing Streak, Visit Road-Weary Blazers

The Detroit Pistons will attempt to avoid their first three-game losing streak since January when they take on the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.

Pistons Seeking a Road Trip Finale Win

Sunday’s contest marks the end of a four-game road swing for Detroit. The Pistons opened the trip with a commanding win over the Utah Jazz but have since fallen to the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors.

Detroit had an opportunity to defeat the Warriors on Saturday night but ultimately fell 115-110. Cade Cunningham put the Pistons ahead with 49.9 seconds left, only for Golden State to close the game on an 8-2 run.

“I thought our guys did a great job competing and gave ourselves an opportunity to win down the stretch,” Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff said.

Cunningham scored 31 points, marking his second straight game with 30 or more and his fourth in the past eight contests. Tobias Harris (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Jalen Duren (13 points, 13 rebounds) also recorded double-doubles.

Harris, who missed the previous two games due to personal reasons, provided a strong presence in his return.

“He’s a leader. He’s been a steady influence on this team the entire year,” Bickerstaff said. “We depend on him, he’s reliable, he’s there to support the group and gives everybody a sense of confidence.”

Duren has now recorded three double-doubles in four games this month. After the matchup in Portland, Detroit returns home for two games against the Washington Wizards and a meeting with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Trail Blazers Hope to Take Advantage of Home Stretch

Sunday’s contest marks the beginning of a crucial stretch for Portland, as the team will play eight of its next nine games at home. After hosting the Pistons, the Trail Blazers travel to Golden State on Monday before opening a pivotal seven-game homestand.

“We get to go home — at least for a day,” Portland coach Chauncey Billups said following Friday’s 107-89 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. “We’re all excited about that.”

Portland went 4-3 on its recent seven-game road trip, with the losses coming against the NBA’s top three teams by record—the Cleveland Cavaliers, Thunder, and Boston Celtics.

“I thought it was a good trip for us,” Billups said. “With the exception (of Oklahoma City), we had a chance to win every game. This was the only game where I feel we didn’t have any control in the game.”

The Trail Blazers currently sit in 12th place in the Western Conference, four games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final play-in spot. With a home-heavy schedule ahead, this is a prime opportunity for Portland to make a push.

However, the competition won’t be easy, as matchups against the Celtics, Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies, and New York Knicks loom in the coming weeks.

Before looking ahead, Portland must first focus on Detroit. The Pistons won the season’s first meeting, 118-115, on Jan. 6. Anfernee Simons led Portland with 36 points in that game, while Cunningham countered with 32 for Detroit.

Simons looks to bounce back from a rough outing against Oklahoma City, where he managed just 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting after averaging 30.3 points over the previous three games. Meanwhile, Scoot Henderson paced the Blazers with 22 points off the bench against the Thunder.

Deni Avdija (quad) is questionable for Portland after missing Friday’s game.
