Kansas State vs. Arizona State: A Final Shot at Redemption
The Big 12 tournament presents a fresh start for two teams that have struggled to meet expectations this season.
The 10th-seeded Kansas State Wildcats (15-16) and 15th-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils (13-18) will clash Tuesday in Kansas City, with both teams desperate to turn their fortunes around.
With each team winning on the other’s home court during the regular season, the neutral-site tiebreaker adds intrigue—but for either squad to make a serious run, they’ll need to fix major flaws that have plagued them all season.

Arizona State: Senior-Laden Roster Falls Flat
The Sun Devils’ season started with promise, but a brutal collapse in the final stretch has them limping into tournament play.
Arizona State dropped 10 of its last 11 games, including an ugly 85-57 home loss to Texas Tech on Saturday.
For a team led by four seniors in the starting lineup, including leading scorer Alston Mason (13.4 ppg, 4.0 apg), the freefall has been shocking.
Head coach Bobby Hurley expressed frustration and disappointment after yet another home defeat.
“It’s haunting to hear the other team celebrating down the hall,” Hurley said. “It’s been brutal. Everybody deserves more. Our fans deserve better. We should be winning games at home.”
Their only win in the past month? A 66-54 road victory at Kansas State on Feb. 23, where the Sun Devils held the Wildcats to 1-of-17 shooting in a dominant second-half defensive stretch.
Now, they’ll need another defensive clinic if they hope to extend their season past Tuesday.
Kansas State: Streaky Play Leaves Tournament Hopes in Doubt
Kansas State has been one of the streakiest teams in the Big 12, suffering through wild swings of wins and losses all season.
The Wildcats opened conference play with a win, then lost six straight. They followed that with a six-game winning streak—only to drop four more in a row, including the home loss to Arizona State.
They closed the regular season with back-to-back wins, but a 75-65 home loss to No. 10 Iowa State on Saturday halted any momentum.
Head coach Jerome Tang was devastated for his seniors, especially leading scorer David N’Guessan (13.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg).
“This just sucks,” Tang said. “Credit to Iowa State; they did a great job. They turned us over 17 times, and that resulted in 22 points. We were 2-for-21 from three.”
The Wildcats shot themselves out of the game—a trend that has cost them all season.
Despite the struggles, Tang remains optimistic about the opportunity ahead.
“We’ll look at the film and figure something out,” he said. “(We’re) excited about the opportunity to play in the Big 12 tournament.”
What’s at Stake?
For Arizona State, this game is about salvaging any pride left in a lost season. A win would be their biggest in over a month, and it could help erase some of the frustration that has built up during their collapse.
For Kansas State, a win could generate confidence heading into a potential Cinderella run in the Big 12 tournament. But another poor offensive showing could send them home quickly.
Both teams have been inconsistent all year, and their prior meetings prove this could go either way.
