Whitecaps’ Impressive Start Could Be Put to Test by FC Dallas
The Vancouver Whitecaps (3-0-0, 9 points) are off to a flying start in the 2025 MLS season, but they’ll face a tough road test against FC Dallas (1-1-1, 4 points) on Saturday in Frisco, Texas.
Whitecaps Unbeaten in MLS, Advance in Champions Cup
Vancouver has been dominant through three league matches, outscoring opponents 8-2 and standing as one of only two teams with a perfect nine points so far (Philadelphia Union being the other).

Their latest MLS win came in a 2-0 shutout of CF Montreal on March 8, with Mathias Laborda and Tate Johnson finding the net. Goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka also recorded his first clean sheet of the season.
The Whitecaps followed up with a 2-2 draw at Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, which saw them advance to the quarterfinals on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate tie.
“We knew it was going to be tough coming down to Mexico,” said Whitecaps striker Brian White, who came off the bench and scored Vancouver’s second goal. “Credit to the boys for getting the result that we needed.”
Vancouver played without captain Ryan Gauld, who suffered a knee sprain against Montreal. He remains sidelined for Saturday’s match.
“I think we are building confidence,” Whitecaps coach Jesper Sorensen said. “And that’s a good thing because then we can become a better team.”
FC Dallas Looking to Bounce Back
Dallas had a 1-0 lead over the Chicago Fire last weekend thanks to a 57th-minute goal by Logan Farrington, but collapsed late, conceding three goals in the final eight minutes of regulation and stoppage time in a 3-1 loss.

“This is my responsibility,” coach Eric Quill said. “The game was in control, and I can do better.”
Quill admitted that substituting possession-based players after Farrington’s goal backfired, as it allowed Chicago to seize control.
Head-to-Head Matchup
Historically, FC Dallas holds an 11-10 advantage over Vancouver, with nine draws. However, the Whitecaps took four points off Dallas last season, winning 3-1 in Frisco and playing to a 0-0 draw at home in September.
