The Houston Rockets are the first team in NBA history to have a 15-game losing streak and a seven- game winning streak in the same season. Can Houston extend that streak tonight?
Golden State and Phoenix continue to dominate the competition. The Warriors hold a slight half-game lead over the Suns in the Western Conference. Brooklyn has a half-game lead over Chicago at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Can these teams maintain their leads? Here are the top five picks for Friday, December 10, 2021.
Brooklyn Nets vs. Atlanta Hawks
Best Bet: NETS +105
The Nets have won seven of their last ten games. They did lose on Wednesday night to Houston, but that had more to do with Kevin Durant sitting out.
Durant is back for tonight and he and James Harden will be too much for the Hawks. Cam Reddish is expected to play for Atlanta, but DeAndre Hunter and Bogan Bogdanovic remain out. Reddish and Hunter would give the Hawks the ability to defend Durant and Harden. With only one of them in the lineup, that becomes a problem.
Brooklyn won at home in the first game against Atlanta this season at full strength. Atlanta has won just two of its last five games. With the Hawks favored, there is value on Brooklyn.
Sacramento Kings vs. Charlotte Hornets
Best Bet: KINGS -1
If you’re wondering how the Kings could be a 1-point road favorite at Charlotte, just check the Hornets injury report.
Tonight, Charlotte will be without LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee, Ish Smith, and Jaden McDaniels. All are out due to COVID-19 issues.
The Hornets have dropped their last two games while playing shorthanded. The Kings have won three straight under interim head coach Alvin Gentry. Back the Kings.
New York Knicks vs. Toronto Raptors
Best Bet: UNDER 209.5
The Knicks have just one win in their last five games. Toronto is coming of a one-point loss to the Thunder on Wednesday.
The Raptors will be without O.G. Anunoby. Goran Dragic is still out as well. The Raptors have just two wins in their last six games. Much of it is due to a lack of scoring. In four of those six games, Toronto managed 97 points or less.
The Raptors are 29th in possessions per game. The Knicks are just 23 rd . It’s a low total, but it’s 209.5 for a reason.
Boston Celtics vs. Phoenix Suns
Best Bet: UNDER 217
Boston will be without Jaylen Brown. Phoenix won’t have Devin Booker, Frank Kaminsky, or Dario Saric. Both teams are trending Under and five of the last six game totals in Suns-Celtics games have gone Under when the teams played in Phoenix.
The Suns are sixth in points allowed per game and the fourth best in opponent field goal percentage. With all those weapons out, this game goes Under.
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Houston Rockets
Best Bet: ROCKETS +8.5
The Rockets are the hottest team in the NBA right now. Once 1-16 with a 15-game losing streak, Houston is now 8-16 after seven straight wins.
Beating Milwaukee will be a tall task as the Bucks have won 10 of their last 12 games. Milwaukee is just 11-14 ATS this season and 7-6 ATS when playing on the road. That spread of 8.5 points is a lot to cover against a team playing as well as it has.
