The slow part of the PGA season is here with the Christmas and Holiday break. Sure, there have been a few specialty events here and there to keep some interest up. And yes, Tiger Woods took to the links with his son Charlie for his return at the PNC Championship. That garnished some headlines and got people talking.
But one of the big topics every year around this time is common to this sports “silly season” and that’s who can win a Major in 2022? NASCAR fans talk about driver changes during their downtime. NFL fans talk about QB trades, the same type of thing goes for the NBA, NHL, and most certainly Major League Baseball.
Now, thanks to BetOnline, golf fans can take a shot at predicting the 2022 winners of golf’s Majors! The list is fine-tuned with 21 players on the list posing the simple question, will (name of one of the 21 players listed below) win at least one of the Majors in 2022? Meaning, the player could miss out on winning the Masters but they could still win one, or more, of the remaining three Majors on the schedule.
Here’s a quick look at five PGA players that I think could win a Master in 2022.
Jordan Spieth to Win a Major in 2022: Yes +400
Jordan Spieth hit a slump for several seasons following his three Major wins as well as the FedEx Championship between 2025 to 2017. That slump ended when he won the Valero Texas Open back in April. Spieth is beginning to look like his old self and he’s only 28 years old. The only Major he’s not won is the PGA Championship, but in 2015 he finished in 2nd place.
Collin Morikawa to Win a Major in 2022: Yes +325
Collin Morikawa is coming off a couple of incredible seasons and there’s no reason to think he would slow down. The young player out of California Berkeley turned pro in 2019 and made the cut in his first 22 tournaments 2nd only to Tiger Woods who holds the record with 25. Morikawa has since won 5 times on the PGA Tour and 4 on the European Tour. He also won the PGA Championship in 2020 and the Open Championship in 2021.
Viktor Hovland to Win a Major in 2022: Yes +475
Viktor Hovland now has some time under his belt on the PGA Tour since finishing up at Oklahoma State and becoming a pro in 2019. The Norwegian-born player has yet to win a Major, but he has 5 professional wins with 3 on the PGA Tour. He’s also finished T12 in both the U.S. Open and the Open Championship. He’s currently ranked 5th in FedEx points and is 9th in the Official World Gold Rankings.
Louis Oosthuizen to Win a Major in 2022: Yes +700
Louis Oosthuizen, now 39, won the Open Championship in 2010 when took the title at the legendary St Andrew. Now he has 14 professional wins on his resume but with only one on the PGA Your. Then, during the 2021 season, he came close to winning 4 of 4 Majors. Which is something to consider when looking at these odds! His finishes in Majors this past schedule included a T2, a sole 2nd place, and T3.
Sam Burns to Win a Major in 2022: Yes +700
For some reason, Sam Burns keeps coming up when I get into this conversation with other golf fans about winning a Major in 2022. Burns has 2 PGA Tour wins and more than a handful of chances at winning more. He’s entering the new year 2nd in FedEx points and ranked 18th in the world. Burns is amazingly composed during events and is beginning to play as a seasoned veteran would after turning pro in 2017.

Oh, what about Tiger Woods? He’s not listed in the odds for winning a Major in 2022 as no one knows what his schedule will be. But here’s a nugget of information. Tiger and Charlie Woods came in 2nd at the PNC Championship to winners John Daly and his son John Daly II. In an interview following the win, Daly commented that he thought Woods would break Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18. Currently, Woods has 15 on his resume.
