Thursday Night Football: Four Ways to Bet the Game

Thursday Night Football is more critical than ever for bettors at this point in the year. There aren’t many opportunities left in the regular season for Thursday night action. This week’s game will showcase the second- and last-place teams in the AFC West.

The Los Angeles Chargers will take the short trip to Las Vegas for a matchup with the Raiders. The Raiders need to win to keep their Wild Card hopes alive.

Here are four ways to bet the game.

Justin Herbert – Over 1.5 Touchdowns

Even though the Chargers haven’t had an overwhelming amount of success this season, Justin Herbert has been phenomenal. Herbert fell into the starting role during the season and hasn’t disappointed.

The 6-6 rookie has thrown for 3,467 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. In 12 appearances, Herbert has thrown at least two touchdowns eight times.

Herbert threw two touchdown strikes against Las Vegas in the team’s first meeting of the year. The Las Vegas defense has been in the bottom third of the league against the pass.

In the Raiders’ past three appearances, opposing quarterbacks have averaged two touchdowns per game. With Herbert’s capability, I believe that he will have a big night on Thursday in Las Vegas.

NFL Week 15 Betting Lines

Los Angeles Chargers (+3)

The Chargers have kept every game close this season except for their outing against New England two weeks ago. Besides this game, they have only lost by two scores on one other occasion.

Their average losing margin without the New England loss is 5.25 points. They have also covered +3 against great teams like the Chiefs and Saints.

The last time they played the Raiders, they were defeated 31-26.

In the NFL, it’s very difficult to beat a team twice. The Raiders are beat up in key positions on the field.

Henry Ruggs III won’t play on Thursday, and star running back Josh Jacobs is questionable.

The return of Austin Ekeler has helped the Chargers offense immensely. As underdogs, the Chargers are 3-3 ATS. I believe they’ll move to 4-3 on Thursday night.

NFL Week 15 Predictions

First Touchdown Scorer – Keenan Allen

For Herbert to go over 1.5 touchdowns, Keenan Allen will need to help carry the load. Allen has shown that he is the favorite target in Los Angeles.

Allen has hauled in 99 receptions on the year, which is good for second in the league. He has also caught eight touchdowns this season, which puts him at ninth in the NFL’s Top 10 ranking.

Since Nov. 1, Allen has caught a touchdown in every game except for one against the Patriots. I like Allen to score first for a few reasons on Thursday night.

The upside with this prop is massive. Depending on the sportsbook, you can get up to +750 odds.

Ekeler has contributed since his return, but he isn’t their touchdown scorer. The Raiders will attempt to neutralize Allen in multiple ways. However, I think the 28-year-old receiver will get the best of the Las Vegas secondary.

Over 53 Points

Los Angeles and Las Vegas are both defined by offense. Las Vegas has gone over 10 times this season, while Los Angeles has gone over seven times. These teams have only gone under in a combined nine games this year.

Fifty-seven points were scored the last time these divisional foes met. I believe this game will be a shootout from the opening kickoff. The Chargers are statistically sound for yards allowed, but they give up 27 points per game.

The Raiders have the ability to get hurt through the air by Herbert. Las Vegas is giving up just over 30 points per game. This makes me think that the scoreboard will be going off all night.
