Week 7 of the college football season produced a number of shocking upsets and games that will leave a lasting impression on the direction this season will take. The next week may not feature college students dragging goalposts into the Tennessee River, but there is still plenty of action worth betting on.
Here’s a look at some picks against the spread for week 8.
Georgia Southern Eagles vs. Old Dominion Monarchs
Georgia Southern vs. Old Dominion Picks
Best Bet: Old Dominion -2
The Monarchs established themselves as one of the contenders to win their division after smashing Coastal Carolina last week. What was most impressive was how the Monarchs moved the ball against Coastal Carolina. Old Dominion showed during an early-season win over Virginia Tech it was more than capable.
Georgia Southern pulled off a shocker last week. The Eagles halted a two-game losing streak by beating previously undefeated James Madison.
Ole Miss Rebels vs. LSU Tigers
Ole Miss vs. LSU Picks
Best Bet: Ole Miss -1.5
The Rebels have been riding the Lane Train’s impressive offense and blasting opponents out of the ballpark this season. Ole Miss has been putting up 40.9 points per game while ranking third in the nation by rushing for 271.4 yards per game. The Tigers have been tough on defense under Brian Kelly.
LSU ranks 31st nationally, only allowing 21.3 points per game. The Tigers, however, hardly force any turnovers and could get caught off-guard by the Rebels.
UCLA Bruins vs. Oregon Ducks
UCLA vs. Oregon Picks
Best Bet: UCLA +6
Chip Kelly’s rebuilding project in Los Angeles has finally started to show fruit. The question for the Bruins, who are coming off a big win over Utah, is can they topple Kelly’s old program on the road? UCLA has only played one road game and has put up 41.5 points per game, which is 12th nationally.
The Ducks have won five straight since being passed by Georgia to start the season.
Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Texas vs. Oklahoma State Picks
Best Bet: Oklahoma State +4
The Cowboys lost a devastating game on the road in overtime to TCU last week. Oklahoma State will need to bounce back quickly if it wants a shot at winning the Big 12 title. Texas, as it constantly has this season, was caught in a back-and-forth battle with Iowa State that it won close to the end of the game.
This is a game where both teams desperately need a win. This game will come down to the wire, where either team will win by a narrow margin.
Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Stanford Cardinal
Arizona State vs. Stanford Picks
Best Bet: Stanford -3
The Cardinal, who are off to a 2-4 start, surprised the country by pulling off a 16-14 win over Notre Dame last weekend. Stanford has struggled on offense this season, committing eight turnovers and ranking 127th in the country.
The Sun Devils haven’t won a road game yet this season. Arizona State pulled off a surprising win over Washington last week.
However, the Sun Devils offense hasn’t shown itself capable of moving the ball consistently. Arizona State averages 353.3 yards per game on offense, which ranks 101st nationally.
