2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Odds and Picks

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship is next up on the PGA TOUR Schedule following an exciting week with Rory McIlroy grabbing the No. 1 spot in the OWGR. Rory won the CJ Cup against a strong field. The field this week will not be as hefty as in the last two years, but that offers an opportunity for a possible first-time PGA winner with plenty of value down the odds list.

Denny McCarthy and Thomas Detry enter the opening round as the favorites this week. McCarthy is at +1600 while Detry comes in at +1800. One famous name that’s in the field is John Daly who was given a sponsors exemption. The former Open and PGA Championship winner comes in at +100000.

Course: Port Royal Golf Club

Par: 71

Length: 6,842 (PGA)

When: October 27 – 30, 2022

Purse: $6.5 million

TV Coverage: Golf Channel/Peacock

Port Royal Golf Club is a Robert Trent Jones-designed course with coastal views and plenty of elevation changes to keep players on their toes. This is not a “flat” beachside set of links. The course can look open in several places due to the lack of trees but in actuality, many of the fairways play tight. This is due to tricky areas of deep rough with plenty of protective bunkers.

Water does come into play on a few holes but cliff drop-offs to the ocean on several of the fairways prove to be more mentally intimidating. Port Royal sets up at 6,842 for PGA play. There are plenty of places where ocean winds come into play forcing players to rely on their short game and putters.

Thomas Detry +1800

Thomas Detry finished up a stint on the Korn Ferry Tour where he earned his card during the finals. He’s done well on TOUR since then. He has made the cut in all five events he’s entered since and he finished here last season with a T22. Detry carded a T5 at the BMW, a T9 at Sanderson Farms, and a T12 at the Fortinet.

Justin Lower +2500

Justin Lower is another former KFT player making a good showing on the PGA TOUR. He finished here last year with a solid week finishing T17. So far this season he’s been able to rack up some great efforts. In his last ten outings between the PGA Tour and a few on the KFT, he’s made it to the weekend nine times. Five of those efforts were of 20th or better.

Hyun-Soo Kim +3000

Hyun-Soo Kim has had a great putter the last several months and working on the greens will be a huge part of this event. Kim comes in after a slight bump at the CJ Cup where he finished 64th. He just could not seem to get under the 70 mark during the week. However, he finished his prior eight rounds by going 6 of 8 in the 60s.

Others: Russell Knox (+3500) seems to enjoy this course. In three Bermuda Championships, he finished T11 (2019), T16 (2020), and a T12 last year. Ryan Armour (+6600) has a great tee shot for a windy course – straight and low. He backs it with strong iron play. If his putter kicks in he could be towards the top on Sunday.
