Picking against the spread in the NFL is especially difficult this season. A number of teams are so close in the standings that it is hard to tell which team is decidedly better or worse than another. Here’s a look at the top five point spread picks for NFL week 8.
New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks
Giants vs. Seahawks Picks
Best Bet: Seahawks -3
The Seahawks and Giants are getting together for a fun match-up between two teams most people didn’t expect much out of before entering this season.
Seattle is sitting in first place in the NFC West thanks to the excellence of veteran quarterback Geno Smith and rookie running back Kenneth Walker III. New York has rallied behind strong running back Saquon Barkley.
The Giants still need to upgrade their passing attack. Seattle will put up enough points to cover the spread.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Minnesota Vikings
Best Bet: Cardinals +3.5
The Cardinals finally put together a strong all-around performance against New Orleans last week to pull within one game of .500. Arizona does have plenty of weapons on offense. The Cardinals forced three interceptions last week and turned two of those into touchdowns.
Minnesota is off to a strong start and sitting in first place in the NFC North. The Vikings have won four games in a row, all by eight points or less. Arizona has the offense to keep this one close and may be able to pull out a victory.
Washington Commanders at Indianapolis Colts
Commanders vs. Colts Picks
Best Bet: Commanders +3
Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke looked good as Washington rebounded from a slow start to sting Green Bay. Now, Washington is hoping to build momentum as defensive end Chase Young is nearing his return to the field. Indianapolis’ offense has been a mess all season.
There has been talk about the Colts sending Matt Ryan to the bench. However, Indianapolis has stood by him for now and won’t want to give up on him finding his previous form. Heinicke will help Washington grab a second straight win.
San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams
49ers vs. Rams Picks
Best Bet: 49ers -1.5
The 49ers haven’t been consistent all season, but have always saved their best for the Rams. Los Angeles is struggling on both sides of the ball. The Rams will be anxious to grab a win to save their season, but will have a lot of ground to make up.
Jimmy Garoppolo and company will grab a narrow win on the road. The 49ers now have Christian McCaffrey, who is capable of transforming their offense.
Green Bay Packers at Buffalo Bills
Packers vs. Bills Picks
Best Bet: Bills -10.5
The Packers being a double-digit underdog may have been a surprise at the beginning of the season, but it is clear that Green Bay has problems. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is having issues working with younger players. Green Bay can’t move the ball.
That is a problem against a Bills team built to destroy modern NFL defenses. Buffalo will put up a ton of points and win by more than two scores against an overmatched Green Bay offense.
