The best part about scoring in the NFL is that there are three phrases it can come from: offense, defense, and special teams. The Cleveland Browns proved last week it is still possible to score nearly 30 points when your quarterback is struggling. Preventing it from becoming a habit is the best practice, but things aren’t always perfect.
Here’s a look at the top five over/under picks for week 14.
Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants
Eagles vs. Giants Picks
Best Bet: Over 45.5 Points
The Eagles have punished their last two opponents on the scoreboard. Philadelphia have scored 75 points in the last two weeks and rank second this season by scoring 28.2 points per game. Philadelphia have shown that its defense will also give up points on its own as well.
The Eagles allowed a weakened Green Bay offense to put up 33 points in a game two weeks ago, but are seventh in the league, allowing 18.8 points per game this season. New York have struggled to score at times, but will need to find a way against Philadelphia.
Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers
Best Bet: Under 37 Points
No Lamar Jackson at quarterback for the Ravens may mean this game is a difficult watch for anyone not invested. Baltimore were barely able to get to double digits against the Broncos after Jackson was hurt last week. While Pittsburgh have played better recently, the Steelers haven’t been finishing drives.
The Steelers were forced to kick four field goals in a 19-16 win over Atlanta last week.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans
Jaguars vs. Titans Picks
Best Bet: Over 41.5 Points
The Jaguars offense can be explosive at times this season. Jacksonville averages 21.5 points per game and have a top-10 running attack. Tennessee can also be a mixed bag on offense. When quarterback Ryan Tannehill is hot, the Titans can hang with anyone.
However, those days come less frequently as Tannehill ages. Tennessee and Jacksonville will both find a way to score in the 20s and go over the total.
Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
Chiefs vs. Broncos Picks
Best Bet: Under 43 Points
The Chiefs would like to bounce back from a tough road loss to Cincinnati by beating up on the inept Broncos. Denver quarterback Russell Wilson has bombed this season. The Broncos are last in the league in scoring offense, putting up 13.8 points per game.
However, Denver’s defense has also been good, allowing the second-fewest points in the league per game at 17. The Broncos are a team that are headed nowhere and won’t be able to get the offense going in a low-scoring affair.
Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks
Panthers vs. Seahawks Picks
Best Bet: Under 43.5 Points
When the Seahawks play, there is always a chance for excitement. However, Seattle have also shown a strong defensive side unwilling to budge. The Seahawks defense, while not as great as it used to be, still has enough pieces to make life difficult for Carolina.
The Panthers only score 19.2 points per game, which ranks 25th in the league.
