Scheduling cupcake games in November can make a record look nice as the New Year approaches. However, building a resume that people will want to look at in March requires winning conference games. As those games start and teams are forced to go outside their comfort zone, teams will start to separate from each other.
Here are the top five CBB picks for Wednesday:
Davidson Wildcats vs. Fordham Rams
Davidson vs. Fordham Picks
Best Bet: Davidson +1
The Wildcats closed non-conference play with an eight-point loss to No. 1 Purdue and also took a surprising loss to Northeastern. However, Davidson, which is 7-5 straight up and 5-6 against the spread, has picked up wins over a solid San Francisco squad and also beat South Carolina in the SEC.
Fordham is on an 11-game winning streak and sits atop the Atlantic 10 Conference as conference play starts. The Rams, however, haven’t beaten any top competition. Fordham will run out of steam and lose its conference opener.
Kentucky Wildcats vs. Missouri Tigers
Best Bet: Kentucky -3
The Wildcats will open SEC play by traveling to Columbia to try and take down a Missouri team that has started the season hot. The Tigers are 11-1 and coming off a double-digit beatdown of rival Illinois. Despite a good non-conference record, Missouri is only 7-5 against the spread.
Kentucky is 8-3 overall and 4-7 against the spread. The Wildcats will grab a road win over Mizzou by utilizing the talents of big man Oscar Tschwibe.

Harvard Crimson vs. Maine Black Bears
Harvard vs. Maine Picks
Best Bet: Harvard -5
The Crimson are off to a solid 8-5 start this season. Harvard has been good against the spread, putting up a 6-5 record against the spread. Maine is also 6-3-1 against the spread and 6-5 straight up. However, the Black Bears haven’t played the schedule the Crimson have.
Harvard will go and grab a comfortable win on the road.
Duquesne Dukes vs. Dayton Flyers
Duquesne vs. Dayton Picks
Best Bet: Under 130.5
Dayton prefers to keep games at a deliberate pace. The Flyers are 14th nationally in scoring defense, limiting their opponents to 58.9 points per game. Dayton makes its opponents uncomfortable all over the floor, limiting teams to 37.1 percent shooting from the field and 27.7 percent from the 3-point line. The Flyers offense also hasn’t scored much, putting up 66.8 points per game.
Duquesne has played well thanks to getting some transfer players in, but playing on the road in the conference won’t result in many points.
Temple Owls vs. East Carolina Pirates
Temple vs. East Carolina Picks
Best Bet: East Carolina -2
Temple has really struggled this season. The Owls are off to a 6-7 start straight up and are 6-6-1 against the spread. Temple will head on the road to try and take down a 9-4 East Carolina team. The Pirates are also 9-4 against the spread and have covered three straight games.
East Carolina has struggled at times on offense, but plays solid defense and this could cause problems for Temple.
