The 2022 NFL season is finally here. As has been customary for the last several seasons, the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams will play the host for the league’s annual kickoff game. The Rams will host the Buffalo Bills who, ironically, are the overall betting favorite to win this season’s Super Bowl.
A number of stars, including quarterbacks Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford, will be on the field for the Bills and Rams, respectively. That means a ton of great performances await fans and bettors.
Here are a few ways bettors can capitalize on those performances. These are the top NFL Week 1 player props picks for Thursday Night Football.
Read our Bills vs. Rams week 1 preview.
Josh Allen – OVER 274.5 Passing Yards (-114)
Allen averaged over 259 yards per game last season. This number is a bit bigger, but Allen will face a Rams passing defense that was very mediocre in 2021. As good as the Rams defense was last year, the pass defense ranked 21 st in the league.
Jalen Ramsey is the only Rams corner ranked in the top-65 of the NFL in pass coverage grade. Allen went over this prop in each of the Bills playoff games and in six regular season games last year. Against that secondary, take Allen to go over.
Josh Allen – UNDER 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (+128)
The plus money is just too hard to pass up here. Yes, Allen only had five games where he didn’t go over this prop last season, but the Rams have one of the better pass rushes in the NFL.
Allen will likely throw the ball all over the yard as the Rams secondary lacks talent after CB Jalen Ramsey. What doesn’t get noticed as much is the Bills running game. Buffalo was sixth in rushing (129.9 ypg) offense in the NFL last season.
The Bills may score some points, but it will be on the ground leaving Allen under this prop.
Cooper Kupp – OVER 93.5 Receiving Yards (-114)
Kupp caught 145 passes for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He was the best wide receiver in the league in 2021. He ended up the Super Bowl MVP as well with two touchdown catches in the big game.
Playing in 15 regular season games, Kupp averaged 114.5 receiving yards per game last season. Of the 15 games he played, 13 of them went Over this prop. One of the two that went Under was a 92-yard performance against Seattle.
Kupp is the meal ticket for the Rams. LA will get the run game going and that will open up the passing game for Kupp. Take the over.
Stefon Diggs – Anytime Touchdown (+130)
The Bills offense is elite. They run the ball well and have a number of solid targets for Allen in the passing game.
Against the Rams, Buffalo will likely focus on beating a so-so Rams secondary. That means plenty of targets for guys like Diggs. Allen will throw a touchdown pass and it will go to his top target – Diggs. He caught 10 touchdowns last season and he’ll find the end zone in Week 1.
