Games in the NHL are being postponed and moved left and right, so these are not times of much certainty. However, we’ve got some strong feelings about two games on Tuesday night’s NHL schedule.

San Jose Sharks at Los Angeles Kings Preview

Sharks vs. Kings Picks

When: 10 p.m. Eastern

NHL Betting Lines

Money Line: Sharks -120, Kings +100

Total: Over 6 goals +100, Under 6 goals -120

Puck Line: Sharks -1.5 goals (+215), Kings +1.5 goals (-255)

The Sharks, as we have spoken about before, have been the NHL’s version of a barnstorming crew, forced at first to train in Arizona, and unable to return home But as restrictions relaxed, they got a little positive reinforcement from being able to spend some time with their families, and after the split against the Anaheim, they’ve actually won four games on the road.

Devan Dubnyk has been pretty strong of late in goal, with a .934 save percentage over his last four games. but the Sharks have converted just one out of their last 27 power play opportunities. And as a team they have given up 150 shots on goal over their last four. That’s a tough thing to survive in the long run.

NHL Handicapping Guide: Betting on Adjusted Puck Lines

The Kings have lost four straight games. That includes a 4 – 3 decision in Las Vegas on Sunday, even though they got off to a decent start by scoring on their first two shots. The problem in Los Angeles is that after the loss of defensemen Matt Roy and Sean Walker to injuries, they’ve had no choice but to go with a backline crew in which rookies are very prevalent.

In that kind of situation, there’s going to be pressure on thje netminder. So you have to commend goalie Cal Petersen to a certain extent. Not so much with Jonathan Quick, who’s got a .867 save percentage and is the likely Tuiesday starter. The Kings have allowed four goals or more in six of their 11 games.

But take special note that Los Angeles has been outscored 17-6 in the first 20 minutes, so even though we might also recommend an “over,” San Jose is a value in first period betting.

The Play: SAN JOSE – 1st Period (-110)

Edmonton Oilers at Ottawa Senators Preview

Oilers vs. Senators Picks

When: 7 p.m. Eastern

NHL Betting Lines

Money Line: Oilers -200, Senators +170

Total: 6.5 goals (-110 either way)

Puck Line: Oilers -1.5 goals (+120), Senators +1.5 goals (-140)

The Oilers were pretty happy about the season debut of 38 year-old veteran Mike Smith, who actually stopped every shot against these Senators (Edmonton had an own goal) . you earned praise from many of his teammates including left wing Kailer Yamamoto, who said that Smith “makes everybody relax on the ice.”

But Smith, who signed a one-year, $2 million contract, has not necessarily had outstanding numbers lately. Last season his save percentage was .902, and the year before, at Calgary, it was 898. So no one should get carried away with themselves.

Ottawa actually won a game the other night, beating Montreal, and even though they lost ten of their last 11 games, putting DJ Smith’s job in jeopardy, they seem to have been playing things tighter of late.

We know that Matt Murray is more capable than he has been showing, and he was outstanding against the Oilers in the first game of this two-game set, snuffing out four power plays. But Marcus Hosberg (4.54 GAA) is the Tuesday starter, in all likelihood.

Last time out, Edmonton was able to get two goals from the fourth line, although it must be mentioned that the one that was scored by Tyler Ennis happened while they caught the Senators in a line change.

Coach Dave Tippett has talked about playing his goaltenders two games on and two games off, which would indicate that Smith would take a turn between the pipes on Tuesday, but Mikko Koskinen has been announced as the starting goalie. He’s played twelve of this team’s 14 games, even though his 3.55 goals against average isn’t necessarily what you’d like to see.

The problem for Ottawa is that they can’t put offense and defense together in the same game, and with a minus-26 goal differential counter they are – let’s face it – a shaky proposition. With just five goals scored in the last three games, we are not to confident in the Senators being able to overcome an opponent where Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have each scored at least one point in 10 straight contests.

The Play: EDMONTON -1.5 Goals (+120)
