Boston College at (#23) Virginia Tech
Game Total: 60.5 Points / Tease: Over 54.5 Points
Boston College is coming off a thrilling victory in overtime against Pittsburgh 31-30. This put them at a 3-1 record on the year. They also took the now fifth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels down to the wire just two games ago.
Virginia Tech is currently sitting at 23rd in the national poll. Last week, the Hokies suffered their first loss of the season, 56-45 to North Carolina.
Last week shows that Virginia Tech will give up points. Boston College also deserves a lot more credit than it has received this season. I like the explosiveness that both teams offer to go over 54.5 points.
(#1) Clemson at Georgia Tech
Game Total: 61.5 Points / Tease: Over 55.5 Points
I’m confident in this case that both teams can cover the over with a six-point buffer. Georgia Tech loves to pound the rock. If they’re able to get a little offensive production, they’ll be able to put some points together. Clemson being banged up on defense will also help Georgia Tech’s ability to score.
Clemson has the ability to score at will. If the Tigers do jump out to a big lead, they’ll definitely take the foot off the gas. This is a little scary, but I still love the over in this matchup.
Clemson has surpassed the over in every game except against The Citadel, which is a member of the FCS.
Liberty at Syracuse
Game Total: 55 Points / Tease: Over 49.5 Points
By no means is Syracuse a good football team. Despite this, for it to come into this game as an underdog is surprising. Liberty is undefeated, but it has beaten two FCS schools and escaped with victories over Western Kentucky and Florida International.
Liberty is relatively new to the FBS, moving up from the FCS in 2018. The Flames are not bad, but experience against tough competition is going to power Syracuse to a lot of points.
Syracuse makes its share of mistakes on defense as well. This means that even a less talented Liberty team will be able to capitalize.
In addition to this, the Orange offense showed some life last week against Duke in a tough loss. Look for Syracuse to build off this performance against a weaker Liberty defense.
I adjusted the teaser down to 49.5 points to play it safe. If Syracuse plays the way it’s capable of against Liberty, this is a very realistic number.
(#3) Georgia at (#2) Alabama
Game Total: 58.5 Points / Tease: Over 52.5 Points
If you look at the results so far, you’ll notice that Georgia and Alabama both have high-powered offenses.
The matchup to watch in this game will be the Georgia offensive line versus the Alabama front seven. Neither unit is what it was a year ago, but this game will be won in the trenches. It’s going to come down to who can protect the quarterback and establish the ground game.
Alabama’s offense looks a little stronger than Georgia’s, but both teams have shown the ability to put up points. I don’t believe this is going to be a defensive battle.
I think it will look more like a shootout. Alabama showed its defensive flaws last week against Ole Miss.
I like Alabama to win, but the high likelihood of a shootout makes 51 a very low number.
