Iowa’s only two losses since early February came against Michigan and Illinois which are both No. 1 seeds in this tournament. A small bet on the Hawkeyes at +375 is the perfect hedge against the -200 odds betting Gonzaga.

Both Kansas and Virginia had to drop out of their conference tournaments due to health protocols. The confusion and uncertainty surrounding their participation in this tournament drains most of the value in their March Madness futures betting odds.

Of the two, the Jayhawks are still the most dangerous contenders in this region. They were picking up steam at the right time of the year with an 8-1 run over their last nine games. This is another team that could be used as a hedge against Gonzaga if you are not sold on Iowa.

There are some interesting teams further down this list that can bust up more than a few brackets. However, getting past Gonzaga to reach the Final Four is far too long of a reach.

Wichita State faces Drake in a First Four match on Thursday. Either team should get by No. 6 USC in the first round. VCU could give Iowa a tough test in the second round. UC Santa Barbara is a live dog in a 12 vs. 5 matchup against Creighton.

These are a few potential upsets to make note of. However, taking any team with longer odds past the Sweet 16 does not make solid betting sense in this top-heavy region.
