On Saturday, October 12, AEW returns to PPV action with its second annual WrestleDream event live from the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. This PPV was born from the respect and honoring of legendary Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki. It has now become one of the company’s premiere shows.

The 2024 edition of WrestleDream is a loaded card with many great matches. In fact, I think this PPV lineup rivals AEW’s All-In Wembley show, and that’s saying a lot right there.

The main event for this weekend’s PPV is former teammates and friends turned enemies as Jon Moxley challenges Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship. If that was the only premiere match on this card, then it would still be an intriguing show.

However, there are a few other matches on this WrestleDream card that could headline any PPV and I am more than excited to see. Hangman Adam Page battling Jay White is going to be a fantastic match. It would be my favorite match heading into the PPV if it weren’t for the International Triple Threat Title bout.

Will Ospreay puts his International Title on the line against both Ricochet and Konosuke Takeshita. This bout will steal the show. I’m also excited to see the carnage left behind after Darby Allin and Brody King are through with each other.

Wrestling fans should be excited as we’re getting two weekends in a row with strong PPV wrestling action. Last weekend, WWE Bad Blood delivered some high-quality action with CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre, along with the main event of Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes taking on the new Bloodline.

I believe that WrestleDream can exceed that event with the number of exciting matches scheduled for this weekend. As always, betting sites haven’t listed odds for the entire card and the top handicappers are also behind on this event.

Let’s take a look at the latest AEW WrestleDream odds, courtesy of the top sports betting sites, and make our AEW WrestleDream Predictions.

AEW WrestleDream Predictions

The following AEW predictions are for the confirmed WrestleDream matches. At this time of writing, not all matches have available odds:

Swerve Strickland Returns

Former AEW world champion Swerve Strickland is set to return to AEW programming this weekend as he makes an appearance at WrestleDream in his home state of Washington.

Strickland has been off programming since losing a steel cage match against Hangman Adam Page at the All Out PPV on September 7. It was also noted that Strickland finalized his large contract with AEW and is said to have changed the financial landscape for wrestling stars moving forward.

There’s a lot of speculation as to what will happen when Strickland returns. Hopefully, this segment will be used to further the Hurt Business angle. Strickland needs to address MVP’s offer to talk business with him.

If he doesn’t like what MVP has to say, then we could see a physical encounter with Strickland and Shelton Benjamin, which might just result in Bobby Lashley arriving.

On the rumor front, Bobby Lashley was reportedly going to wrestle on this PPV upon his arrival to AEW. However, I think the debut of Lashley would be better served as an attack on Strickland, or another wrestler, rather than in a match. This would have more of an immediate impact and give another hot angle for upcoming AEW television programming.

This is my hope, but we’ll just have to wait and see how the Hurt Business (Hurt Syndicate) angle fully evolves.

ROH World TV Championship Match

  • (c)Atlantis Jr. (+160)
  • Brian Cage (-240)

This ROH World TV title match will take place on the Zero Hour portion of the WrestleDream event. And, it’s appropriate, considering zero people are interested in this matchup.

For the life of me, I can’t understand why AEW doesn’t use Brian Cage more effectively. The man is a beast in the ring. He could easily be positioned in the Don Callis Family as another member. Send Will Hobbs to the Hurt Business and use Cage as a DCF enforcer.

Instead, we get Cage used as a stepping stone for other wrestlers who aren’t even as TV worthy as he is. Atlantis Jr. doesn’t move the needle at all. And, yet, they will probably have him beat Cage and retain a belt that hasn’t meant anything since Samoa Joe held it.

Bet: Atlantis Jr. (+160)

AEW Tag-Team Match

  • MxM Collection (+275)
  • The Acclaimed (-450)

Here’s another match that adds zero value to the WrestleDream event, which means that it will most likely be added to the Zero Hour portion of this PPV lineup.

The Acclaimed have taken a step back with this feud against the MxM Collection over the last few weeks. Remember when The Acclaimed were in a red-hot rivalry against FTR? Oh, how much things have changed over the last month.

I don’t have a problem with AEW trying to create new rivalries and build up other teams, but it has to make sense. MxM Collection is not a tag-team worthy of a PPV match even in the pre-show. This should’ve been a Collision or Dynamite match.

In fact, this match became official on this week’s Rampage episode. And, I don’t know anyone who watches Rampage anymore. However, the October 11th episode of this show was taped on Tuesday night when a special episode of Dynamite aired from Spokane, Washington. So, you are getting a spoiler here. Sorry about your damn luck!

MxM Collection is threatening to end The Acclaimed’s scissoring forever. Honestly, that wouldn’t be a bad thing considering this has become the wrestling variation of “pull my finger”.

With that said, it would be a colossal mistake to have The Acclaimed lose unless AEW is punishing Max Caster once again. Since I haven’t seen anything about Caster getting into trouble for the hundredth time, I’m taking The Acclaimed to win this weekend’s match.

Bet: The Acclaimed (-450)

AEW World Tag Team Championship Match:

  • (c)The Young Bucks (-2000)
  • Private Party (+700)

So, we don’t see The Young Bucks drop the titles to FTR, The Acclaimed or Ospreay and Fletcher. But, now, we’re supposed to believe they will lose the titles to Private Party who are nothing more than tag-team jobbers?

This booking makes little sense. Yes, I’ve been calling for AEW to take the belts off of The Young Bucks as this title run has been stale and boring. Sure, the in-ring work against the teams mentioned above has been excellent as usual, but nobody cares about this team. Their EVP angle has run its course.

Jack Perry and Okada get the most interest from fans when it comes to The Elite. Everyone wants to see Perry lose and they love to watch Okada matches because he truly is elite. However, the Young Bucks are just boring and can’t even muster up any cheap heat these days.

Have them help Page win and begin a feud with The Bang Bang Gang. Or put them in a storyline with The Outrunners who actually deserve a push.

Instead, we get this angle with Private Party who need a makeover. In fact, drop the entire Private Party gimmick because it’s old and not working anymore. Have them go by their names and take on a manager.

For me, this match will be a bathroom break, food break or scrolling through social media break. I could even use it to set any last-minute changes to my fantasy football teams.

As for the winner, take The Young Bucks as it would be horrible having this incarnation of Private Party win the tag-team titles.

Bet: The Young Bucks (-2000)

ROH World Championship Match

  • (c)Mark Briscoe (-240)
  • Chris Jericho (+160)

Yes, I agree with the large number of fans on social media and in the live crowds that are booing Chris Jericho and screaming for the legend to stop wrestling. At the very least, they should stop giving him so much television time.

However, there’s one thing you can’t deny when it comes to Jericho, and that’s when he cuts a heel promo. Although his promos are dressed up with this cheesy Learning Tree gimmick, which is as stale and useless as The Private Party gimmick, Jericho’s comments to Mark Briscoe about his late-brother Jay Briscoe was exactly what we needed to emotionally invest in this PPV bout.

The matches listed prior to this ROH world title bout, give us zero reason to emotionally invest in them. Sure, the live crowd will pop and be loud for parts of those matches, just because they’re at a PPV, but I’m willing to bet that the majority of fans aren’t emotionally invested in those outcomes.

That all changes with this bout and it’s due to everyone wanting to see Briscoe shut Jericho’s mouth for good. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening. I think AEW needs to do something drastic here, and that’s to put the ROH world title around Jericho’s waist once again.

Briscoe is “over” with the fans and doesn’t need the belt. Yet, Jericho could use it as a prop to extend his current Learning Tree gimmick that is already on life support. He could also become a stepping stone to get another wrestler over by dropping the belt to that future challenger.

If that isn’t the outcome, then I truly hope this is the end of The Conglomeration versus The Learning Tree because this feud has done nothing to help the former as they’ve really become irrelevant due to most people not wanting to see Jericho anymore.

Bet: Chris Jericho (+160)

2 Out of 3 Falls Match

  • Hologram (-1000)
  • The Beast Mortos (+550)

On this week’s episode of Dynamite, Hologram wrestled Komander in what turned out to be a highly entertaining television match. Both Lucha Libre stars took it up a level and not only impressed the fans in attendance, but also those watching the programming based on the positive feedback it’s received via social media.

Speaking of social media, AEW owner Tony Kahn took to Twitter (X) on the morning of October 9, to declare that Hologram will battle The Beast Mortos in a 2 Out of 3 Falls match at WrestleDream.

I’m not a huge fan of this addition to an already lengthy WrestleDream card. However, I do like Mortos and think he should be pushed more. Mortos is a “beast” in the ring. And, yes, I intentionally played on that word.

Hologram is getting the rocket strapped to his back in AEW, but the promotion has a true gem of a wrestler in Mortos. There have been some critics calling for AEW to put a belt around the man’s waist.

Once you get the International Championship out of the hands of Ospreay and his opponents this weekend, it should go to Mortos by early 2025.

AEW did put Mortos with Rush and Dralistico, which is a solid trio of in-ring performers. They also shifted this group to the tutelage of Jake “The Snake” Roberts, which could be gold if Roberts is on AEW programming more often and the bookers actually push the group.

With that said, I expect Hologram to win this match as he continues his “Goldberg” streak in AEW. But, don’t sleep on Mortos, as this is a guy that AEW could push up the card if they come to their senses sooner than later.

Bet: Hologram (-1000)

AEW TNT Championship Match

  • (c)Jack Perry (-1800)
  • Katsuyori Shibata (+700)

Love him or hate him, Jack Perry has been solid since returning to AEW programming and aligning with The Elite. Despite losing to Danielson last month, Perry has been on a decent run with this TNT title.

Katsuyori Shibata is a solid in-ring wrestler, but his Google Translate gimmick is not getting him over. Neither has his time with Hook and Samoa Joe. Shibata needs a manager in the worst way. If AEW can put Jake Roberts as a manager of Lucha Libre heels, then they can find someone for Shibata.

With that said, I expect this match to be a strong in-ring product. Both wrestlers can turn it up in the ring. However, I don’t see any reason why Jack Perry should lose the belt this weekend.

After Daniel Garcia’s declaration on Dynamite this week, I’m thinking we see Garcia eventually challenge and end Perry’s run as the TNT champ.

Bet: Jack Perry (-1800)

AEW Singles Match

  • Darby Allin (-1200)
  • Brody King (+600)

Now, we’re getting to the half of the PPV that I’m very excited about. These next five matches are going to be fantastic. My only complaint about this bout, is the lack of build to it.

Sure, Darby Allin and Brody King have a history with and against each other, but AEW decided to drop that nugget of real-life history on this week’s Dynamite just four days before the PPV. Why not use that to build a more emotional storyline over a few weeks?

I really hate how WWE and AEW just throw matches together at the last minute and act like we’re supposed to just eat the crap they feed us. Both of these wrestlers deserve more time with a proper build.

With that out of the way, let’s focus on the positives. The in-ring promo and brawl that Allin and King had this week got me fired up. I’m a huge fan of Brody King and AEW is dropping the ball with this man.

Think about how WWE has done a tremendous job building up Solo Sikoa or even Jacob Fatu. AEW should and could be doing something similar with King. He’s a talented big man that can feud with anyone on the roster.

King should be an upper-mid card wrestler or in the conversation for a world title shot. Instead, he’s been floundering in the trios division.

If AEW uses this match as a launching pad for King, then I will stand and applaud the bookers for that. However, I feel like this is more about giving Allin a credible opponent to beat in his home state of Washington.

Inefficient bookings aside, the in-ring story for this match should be very compelling considering we’ve seen what they can do and will do against each other.

If given enough time, this match could be memorable for both men and the PPV as a whole. As for the winner, play it safe by taking Allin to pick up the victory.

Bet: Darby Allin (-1200)

AEW Women’s World Championship Match

  • (c)Mariah May (-5000)
  • Willow Nightingale (+1000)

I’m a fan of both competitors in this match. Like the bout above, I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more time given to these ladies in building up to this world title match at WrestleDream.

At least, we have some recent backstage segments to call upon as catalysts for this feud. We didn’t have that with Allin and King. And, these two women competed against each other for the Owen Cup over the summer, which gives us more recent history to work with.

With that said, it still feels like AEW threw this angle together at the last minute. Mariah May as a heel and Willow Nightingale as a baby face could’ve really drawn in more fans and emotions with a longer build as they’re both great at what they do.

May on commentary this week was very entertaining. She did more for this weekend’s match than AEW did with the storyline. That’s why I feel they could’ve gotten more mileage out of this feud than two weeks of slapping each other and commentary.

My hope is that AEW will continue this feud after the PPV, but I doubt it. It feels more like giving May something to do rather than something for fans to really sink their teeth into.

May is going to win this match. There’s no scenario where she loses the belt this weekend, or for the rest of the year. She’s just starting to hit her stride as a full-blown heel and I expect May to stay on top of the women’s division for quite some time.

Bet: Mariah May (-5000)

AEW Singles Match

  • Hangman Adam Page (+130)
  • Jay White (-175)

I’m really looking forward to this match as I like both wrestlers. AEW is finally getting around to pushing Jay White as the true world title contender that he is. And, they’ve done a masterful job with Hangman Adam Page’s character throughout this year.

White’s return, a few weeks ago at Grand Slam, really brought some much-needed energy back to his character and The Bang Bang Gang. White looks in tremendous shape and his time away dealing with an injury is a blessing in disguise. It’s given AEW the chance to reboot his place in the pecking order and should allow for a run at the main event scene.

When it comes to Page, his craziness won’t be affected with a loss this weekend. He’s suffered losses over the last few months and ended up burning down a house, then winning a gruesome steel cage match.

Page can lose this match on Saturday and still be in the same spot in regards to relevance, push and future storylines. That’s exactly what I think will happen.

I see Jay White picking up the victory this weekend, but I would love for this feud to continue. Then I see White turning his attention towards MJF since he lost his world title shot against Max last year.

As for Page, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some interaction with Strickland this weekend as the two men will be on the same PPV and AEW has put more steam into building up his return than they have with Page. That could fuel Page’s proverbial and physical fire.

Bet: Jay White (-175)

AEW International Championship Match

  • (c)Will Ospreay (-400)
  • Ricochet (+750)
  • Konosuke Takeshita (+175)

The only match that I am looking forward to more than Page vs. White, is this one. I think all three competitors in this contest are tremendous. I’ve been calling for AEW to put a belt around the waist of Konosuke Takeshita for the better part of this year. Saturday’s triple threat bout could be the perfect way to accomplish it.

I’ve been a fan of Ricochet since Lucha Underground and Will Ospreay since he rose up the ranks in NJPW. Both of these men are tremendous in-ring performers. I would love to see a best of seven series between the two.

As we saw on Dynamite this week, Ospreay finally broke away from the Don Callis family. It was something long overdue for the fans and the storyline. The interesting twist to come from this is what will happen with Kyle Fletcher.

Fletcher would not participate in the attack on his friend Ospreay this week. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t participate in a future attack. Could we see a heel turn for Fletcher this weekend as he helps Takeshita win the title?

Ricochet and Ospreay teaming up to battle the Don Callis Family would make for a strong storyline, especially in the ring. AEW has worked the best friends angle with Fletcher and Ospreay over the last few months and it makes me think that Fletcher will turn on him.

Give me a “barber shop” moment this weekend, where we get the Fletcher heel turn as he, Takeshita and the new addition of Lance Archer get a huge boost to become one of the top factions in the company.

Bet: Konosuke Takeshita (+175)

AEW World Championship Match

  • (c)Bryan Danielson (NA)
  • Jon Moxley (NA)

I’ve seen the rumors and have heard the growing buzz of speculations that Shane McMahon could be the man leading Jon Moxley and his team. That would be tremendous storytelling if Shane O’Mac actually joined AEW. As of now, it’s probably just wishful thinking.

However, if AEW was going to end the full-time in-ring career of Bryan Danielson then what better way to do it than with Moxley and McMahon. It would definitely put this group in the upper stratosphere of AEW. In fact, this could be the exact storyline needed to boost AEW’s ratings.

Considering the odds of McMahon showing up are astronomical, I doubt we see it happening or Moxley winning. Having the former BCC members help Mox win this match or beat up Danielson feels underwhelming. It’s something we’ve already seen happen over the last month.

Wheeler Yuta turning on Danielson this weekend could be a small spark, but that would make little sense after what just happened to him on Dynamite this Tuesday.

AEW has put themselves in a corner here. They either have Danielson lose and stop wrestling full time or they have Moxley lose and kill most of his momentum. That’s why many fans are hoping someone like Shane McMahon helps Moxley win, so that there’s something huge that comes from this moment.

I’m taking Danielson to win this match as I don’t see it being the moment for his fulltime in-ring career to come to an end. I think AEW and Danielson will drag it out a little longer. Maybe even until the beginning of 2025.

Bet: Bryan Danielson (NA)

Will Christian Cage Cash in Contract?

  • Yes (+500)
  • No (NA)

Christian Cage has teased on numerous occasions that he’s going to cash in his contract for an immediate challenge of the AEW World Championship.

For over the last year, I have been singing Cage’s praises with his excellent heel work on the mic and in the ring. The Patriarch of AEW is a highly underrated legend in wrestling.

I would love for Cage to be the world champion. Can you imagine how over the top he would be if Cage was the one to retire Danielson from full-time wrestling? The promos would be must see TV.

Unfortunately, I don’t see this happening at WrestleDream. There’s just too much going on in this world title match to have Cage interrupt before, during or after. We don’t even know what the outcome will be with Moxley and Danielson. Makes no sense for Cage to come out and attack Moxley with the rest of his group around.

Also, with Luchasaurus (Killswitch) dealing with serious health issues at the moment, it makes even less sense to have Christian cash in the contract. Let’s get another member in his faction before he goes after the world title.

Bet: No (NA)

Who Will Appear First at WrestleDream?

  • Bobby Lashley -265
  • MJF +200
  • Adam Cole +500
  • Ricky Starks +1600

This is a fun prop bet to dissect. Let’s start from the bottom and work our way up to the betting favorite in Bobby Lashley.

Ricky Starks has not been seen in AEW since March when he and Big Bill lost a tag-team match against Top Flight. It’s highly doubtful that Starks returns to AEW anytime soon. The odds are that Starks could be done with the promotion amidst all the rumors of WWE wanting him.

Adam Cole has reportedly been backstage in AEW as he’s about to return to on-air programming. However, what purpose does it serve having him show up at the PPV? Unless, AEW is going to unmask him and his group as the assailants who attacked Taz. I just don’t see the need to have Cole feud with Hook.

MJF should be back sooner than later. I can see him and Jay White entering a feud. I just don’t see that happening this weekend.

The smart bet is on Bobby Lashley as he’s virtually guaranteed to appear, especially during Swerve Strickland’s return appearance. AEW would be smart to kick off the PPV with Swerve Strickland or the International Title match. Either way, take Lashley for this prop bet.

Bet: Bobby Lashley -265

Will Bryan Danielson Retire?

  • Yes (+700)
  • No (NA)

Danielson’s full-time wrestling career is coming to an end sooner than later. I just don’t see it happening this weekend unless Shane McMahon shows up and helps Moxley.

AEW will more than likely keep the belt on Danielson for a few more months and then have him lose by early 2025.

Bet: No (NA)
