On Friday, February 14, Denys Berinchyk will defend his WBO lightweight title against rising contender Keyshawn Davis live from the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. This world title fight will be contested at 135 pounds and is scheduled for 12 rounds.
Berinchyk (19-0, 9KOs) will make his first title defense of the WBO lightweight championship after winning it via split decision in May 2024. He has the experience advantage over Davis, but will be the smaller of the two fighters.
Davis (12-0, 8KOs) last competed in November 2024, and came away with an easy 2nd round TKO victory. He actually fought three times in 2024, and won two of those bouts via TKO. The unbeaten challenger is being heavily pushed by Top Rank to become the next big star for the promotion.
Can Davis take that next big step to become world champion and the next star in boxing or will he fizzle out before even reaching his full potential?

Denys Berinchyk Recent Fights
The 36-year-old Ukrainian turned pro in 2015, after a successful amateur career that featured silver medals in the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games.
Berinchyk held minor champions in his pro career, but didn’t become a world champion until defeating Emanuel Navarrete for the vacant WBO lightweight title on May 18, 2024.
Berinchyk ended up winning that tough contest by split decision with the scores of 115-113, 116-112, 112-116. It makes one wonder how two of those judges could have the same scores but for each fighter.
Prior to the Navarrete fight, Berinchyk scored three unanimous decisions in a row from late-2021 to August 2023. However, none of those opponents really registered as contenders or rising prospects.
Although some would question Berinchyk’s resume in regards to the opposition, it’s not far off from what Davis has done. Additionally, the Ukrainian did beat everyone put in front of him regardless of their level of skills.
Additionally, The Ring ranks Berinchyk as their #6 lightweight. The champ is a man of few words. However, he did make this one statement during the initial press release for this fight:
“I’m not going to make any big statements or shower my opponent with compliments. I’ll just say one thing: Don’t relax, dude! It won’t be an easy fight for you!”
You have to give the man some credit. He could’ve easily chosen another path to prolong his title reign and pick up some easy paychecks. Instead, he called out Keyshawn Davis and has also gone on record saying he wants to challenge Gervonta Davis next.
On a side note, if his run ends for the world title scene in the lightweight division, he can always head back to bare knuckle fighting. Berinchyk competed one time for a Ukrainian promotion where he beat former UFC fighter Artem Lobov. The boxer ended up winning via TKO after the 4th round.
Denys Berinchyk Odds
Berinchyk comes into this contest as a sizable underdog with odds ranging from +425 to +500. He opened as a +310 underdog when the fight was first announced.
Prior to this match, Berinchyk was also an underdog against Navarrete after opening at +440 odds. That’s two consecutive bouts where the Ukrainian world champ has been seen as the lesser of two combatants.
Berinchyk does not have many odds listed for his fights prior to Navarette. In fact, we can only find three more bouts with listed odds. He was a large favorite in all three of them.
Keyshawn Davis Recent Fights
Leave roomDavis fought three times last year and won all three of them. The first bout came in February 2024, where he beat Jose Pedraza via 6th round TKO. The IBF USBA, WBC USA, and WBO Inter-Continental lightweight belts were on the line.
His next fight came five months later in July, where Davis went the full 10 rounds against Miguel Madueno. He almost swept every round as he won via unanimous decision with the scores of 99-91 on all three cards. The same trio of belts were on the line.
His third, and most recent fight, came in November 2024, against Gustavo Daniel Lemos. Davis made quick work of Lemos via 2nd round TKO. Davis knocked down Lemos three times in the second round. The WBC USA, WBO-Inter-Continental, and IBF Inter-Continental lightweight belts were on the line.
Now, Davis takes his biggest step up in competition when he faces Berinchyk this weekend. Davis made the following initial comments about the upcoming fight:
“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. Denys Berinchyk called me out, and I answered. A new era in the lightweight division begins on February 14th. Be there in person or watch it live on ESPN because what I’m going to do must be seen to be believed.”
The 25-year-old American has grown more confident since those initial statements. He’s now boasting of a knockout victory and making quick work of his Ukrainian opponent.
“I feel super strong. I feel motivated. I feel locked in. Nothing can steer me away from my goal of becoming a world champion on February 14. I can only think about my world title. But depending on how crazy I knock Berinchyk out, I’m going to be one of those big names that people are going to want to get in the ring with. I’d be putting myself down if I talk about fighting ‘big names’ because I can become one of those big names on February 14.” for text
Keyshawn Davis Odds
Keyshawn Davis opened as a -430 favorite in this weekend’s clash. However, his lines have doubled since then as Davis is now the favorite with odds ranging from -600 to -900.
When looking over his past odds, Davis has been a favorite in every fight that he’s actually competed in. The only time we see a bout where Davis is listed as an underdog, was the potential matchup with Andy Cruz in 2021. Davis was a +290 to +385 underdog.
For his three bouts in 2024, Davis was a large favorite with odds ranging from -500 in the Gustavo Lemos fight to -2800 in the Miguel Madueno bout.
Denys Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn Davis Predictions
Many pundits are giving both men credit for taking this fight. In Berinchyk’s case, he’s taking on a dangerous prospect instead of milking his title reign longer. In Davis’ case, he’s fighting for a world title in just hist 13th professional bout. Both men are facing risks that could derail their undefeated careers.
Davis has a two-inch height, three-inch reach, and 11-year age advantages over Berinchyk. The younger fighter also has the speed, agility and athletic advantages as well. However, Davis has not looked as crisp in the professional ranks as he did as an amateur.
Additionally, Berinchyk has a clear-cut experience advantage. His bout against Navarrette last year, is considered to be tougher than this weekend’s clash.
Davis does have power and can cause damage while in the pocket. Yet, Berinchyk is very durable and willing to muddy the waters in this bout.
For Davis to win, he’s going to need to rely on technique and speed. He will have to stick and move, while avoiding any prolonged exchanges against his veteran counterpart.
Berinchyk is a live dog in this fight. In fact, he’s worthy of a flier on his moneyline. With that said, I think Davis answers the call by defeating his toughest opponent to date.
Bet: Keyshawn Davis (-800)
The Best Denys Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn Davis Prop Bets
The following Denys Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn Davis prop bets are courtesy of BetUS:
Over/Under 10.5 rounds
- Over 10.5 (-270)
- Under 10.5 (+215)
Berinchyk has competed in many 12-round fights. In fact, many of them have gone Over the 10.5 round mark. For Davis, this will be his first 12-round fight. I don’t doubt that he has the conditioning and stamina to go beyond this point. My only concern is how effective will he be in the championship rounds.
With that said, I’m taking the Over as I don’t see either man losing before the championship rounds.
Bet: Over 10.5 rounds (-270)

In fact, I believe this bout will go the full 12 rounds. Berinchyk has gone the distance in his last four bouts. He’s never been stopped in his career. In fact, seven of his nine 12-round bouts have gone the distance.
Davis has gone the distance in just four of his 12 pro fights. He has also never been stopped in his pro career. I think both men have the durability to go the distance and make this a highly competitive bout.
