The Genesis Invitational is one of the premier stops on the PGA Tour, featuring an elite field competing for one of the most prestigious titles in golf.

This year, the tournament has been moved from Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego due to the devastating wildfires that ravaged the Palisades. The Riviera Country Club wasn’t directly impacted by the fires, but the PGA decided to postpone the tournament and move it south.

Torrey Pines, known for hosting major championships, provides a challenging yet scenic test for the world’s best golfers. Because the Genesis Invitational is taking place at a different venue than it normally does, we can essentially throw previous iterations of the tournament out the window when it comes to analyzing who may fare well in 2025.

Where Is The Genesis Invitational?

The 2025 Genesis Invitational will take place at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California. This temporary relocation from Riviera marks a significant shift in the tournament’s history, as players will need to adjust their strategies to the course’s long fairways, deep rough, and undulating greens.

Torrey Pines has a rich history, having hosted the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Opens, making it a worthy alternative venue for this year’s event.

How To Watch The Genesis Invitational?

Fans can watch the Genesis Invitational on CBS and Golf Channel, with streaming options available on ESPN+ and PGA Tour Live.

Is There A Cut At The Genesis Invitational?

Yes, the Genesis Invitational follows a traditional PGA Tour cut line, with the top 65 players and ties advancing to the weekend after 36 holes.

Who Won The Genesis Invitational 2024?

Hideki Matsuyama won last year’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera with a final score of 17-under par. He capped a stellar performance with a sparkling 9-under in the final round, which was enough to easily nudge him past Luke List and Will Zalatoris, who tied for 2nd place at 14-under apiece. Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann, Max Homa, and Adam Scott are a few other previous winners.

Scottie Scheffler leads the field as the clear favorite at +400 after his dominant 2024 season. Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas provide strong mid-tier value at +1600 and +1800, respectively. Tony Finau and Jordan Spieth offer intriguing longshot value at +4000 each.

The Genesis Invitational Favorites

The following golfers are considered the odds-on favorites, according to the latest Genesis Invitational odds:

Scottie Scheffler (+400)

Scheffler has been the most dominant golfer on tour over the past year, so it’s hardly a surprise to see him listed as the pre-tournament favorite.

Scheffler has shown time and time again that he can handle Torrey Pines’ demanding layout, and his ability to scramble when needed gives him an edge over the competition. Scheffler’s 2025 has gotten off to a so-so start. he tied for 9th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the end of January before dropping to a disappointing 25th at last week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open. Scheffler tied for third place at 18-under at the WM Phoenix Open last year, so his 9-under showing last week left plenty to be desired.

Still, Scheffler was so good last season that he’s likely to enter just about every tournament as the favorite until further notice. Even though he hasn’t been in the finest form, it’s still too early in the new season to draw any firm conclusions. Something tells me the 28-year-old didn’t suddenly get washed up over the course of one offseason, so look for him to rebound in a big way at the Genesis.

Rory McIlroy (+650)

Rory McIlroy’s length off the tee is a huge advantage at Torrey Pines, as it’ll allow him to take on challenging holes more aggressively. His putting has been inconsistent, but if he finds his rhythm, he could easily be in contention.

Rory – currently the No. 3-ranked player on the tour – got off to a bright start by winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to kick off his 2025 campaign. Rory finished with a 6-under 66 and won the competition by a couple of strokes. That was his 27th career win on the PGA Tour, and his first since last year’s Wells Fargo Championship.

McIlroy hasn’t been quite as dominant in majors as it looked like he’d become earlier in his career, but he’s still among the steadiest performers on tour. McIlroy’s career average finish at the Genesis is 15th with an average score of 7-under. Of course, all of his previous outings at this event came at Riviera, so things are a bit different this time around.

Collin Morikawa (+1600)

Collin Morikawa’s precise iron play makes him an intriguing pick. He thrives on courses that reward accuracy over distance, and Torrey Pines presents an ideal challenge for his skill set.

While his putting has been shaky at times, he has proven that when he gets hot on the greens, he can dominate. Expect him to be in the mix come Sunday. Morikawa enters the 2025 Genesis Invitational as the competition’s defending champion.

He’s fared well at Torrey Pines over the years. Morikawa took a fourth-place finish at the 2021 U.S. Open at this venue, while he finished 3rd at the Farmers back in 2023. Morikawa’s average score over his 5 previous outings at the Genesis is 7-under, while he’s finished around 19th place on average.

The Genesis Invitational Betting Value

The following golfers offer betting value based on their Genesis Invitational odds, current season, and past success at this golf course:

Justin Thomas (+1800)

Thomas is a dynamic player with a track record of success in high-stakes tournaments. His aggressive approach to iron play makes him dangerous at Torrey Pines, where precise shots into small greens are critical.

If he can find consistency with his putter, he has the skillset to make a deep run. Thomas missed the cut at the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open at this course during his rookie campaign. After that, he took a long hiatus from playing in any competitions at this course. Coward!

He returned in 2021 for the U.S. Open, where he took a 19th-place finish at 2-over par. That’s still Thomas’ best finish in his limited history at the course. While the +1800 odds on Thomas to win are alluring, his documented disdain for the course makes him a risky betting play.

Ludvig Aberg (+2200)

Everyone’s favorite Swede this side of Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Ludvig Aberg – is quickly becoming a massive star on the tour, and his odds reflect that. His ability to stay composed in pressure situations makes him an appealing value pick. With strong showings in recent tournaments, he is proving he can compete with the best.

Just last month at the Farmers Insurance Open at the Torrey Pines South Course, Aberg struggled mightily, however. He finished tied for 42nd with a score of 3-over par, including a brutal 7-over showing in the final round. He was much better in the 2024 iteration of the tournament, though, finishing tied for 9th at 9-under. That included a 2-under showing in the final round.

At +2200, the youngster worth considering as a dark horse to win the 2025 Genesis Invitational outright.

The Genesis Invitational Predictions

With his dominant form and ability to handle tough courses, Scottie Scheffler (+400) grades out as the best Golf pick to win the 2025 Genesis Invitational. I’m not really going out on a limb here, of course, but betting on Scheffler until he finally breaks through seems like a sound strategy. He’s going to win at some point this season, so why can’t it start this weekend down in San Diego?

Once Scheffler does get back on top, his odds to win future tournaments will likely be shorter than this. I’ll take the +400 odds here, gladly.

Best Bet: Scottie Scheffler (+400)

The Genesis Invitational Prop Bets

The following PGA Tour prop bets are courtesy of Bet365:

Best Top 5 Finish

Collin Morikawa’s (+260) pinpoint iron play makes him a prime candidate to finish in the top 5. His accuracy off the tee and approach game are tailor-made for the difficult setup at Torrey Pines. If his putter gets hot, he could easily be in contention heading into Sunday. He won this event last year, and I think he’s a steady enough player to earn himself another top-5 showing even if he doesn’t finish in first place this time around. The +260 odds on a top-5 finish offer loads of profit potential.

Bet: Collin Morikawa (+260)

Best Top 10 Finish

Despite Justin Thomas’ aforementioned distaste for Torrey Pines, I do think he’s a good enough player to overcome it and put forth a decent showing. We’re getting one of the best players in the world at plus-money odds merely to crack the top 10. That doesn’t seem like too much to ask, so I’m happy to take the +140 odds here and hope for the best.

Bet: Justin Thomas (+140)

Wire to Wire Winner

If anyone is gonna go wire-to-wire and win the Genesis Invitational, it’s gotta be the world’s top-ranked player. Scottie Scheffler (+1800) has a solid history of success at Torrey Pines, and I don’t expect his mini-slump to begin the 2025 season to last forever. It’s only a matter of time until he rounds back into form, and you can get +1800 odds on Scheffler to lead the competition in each of the 4 rounds.

Bet: Scottie Scheffler (+1800)
