Daniel Dubois vs. Anthony Joshua Odds and Predictions

Last Updated on

On Saturday, September 21, boxing’s heavyweight division will be in the spotlight as former two-time champ Anthony Joshua challenges Daniel Dubois for his IBF heavyweight title live from Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

This is the same title that Oleksandr Usyk held after defeating Tyson Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. However, Usyk signed a two-fight deal with Fury and refused to take on the IBF mandatory challenger. Eventually, the belt was given to Dubois after he defeated Filip Hrgovic in June.

Now, Saturday’s title fight, has multiple ramifications on the line. Not only is it Dubois’ first title defense, but it also gives Joshua a chance to become a three-time heavyweight champ. Additionally, it means that the winner of this weekend’s bout could potentially face the winner of Usyk vs. Fury in early 2025. The rematch between Usyk and Fury is set for December 2024.

The main event has a scheduled ring walk time of 5:30 pm ET, 10:30 pm local time. In addition to Joshua vs. Dubois, there will be five bouts on the undercard including an IBF junior lightweight title fight as Anthony Cacace puts his title on the line against Josh Warrington.

Anthony Joshua Recent Fights

Speaking of Usyk, Joshua has won four fights in a row since his two bouts against Usyk in 2021 and 2022. Joshua lost both fights via decision to Usyk. The British fighter had held the IBF, IBO, and WBO titles entering their first encounter.

If he can get past Dubois, Joshua would love to fight the winner of Usyk vs. Fury. In fact, he picks Usyk to win and wants another shot at him:

“If they call me to fight them, 100 percent. It’s what I do. Fight. I’ll be ready. It’ll be an honour to fight them two. I’m not focusing on Usyk and Fury. I’ll watch it. Let me get past Dubois. We’ll see. I think Usyk wins (the rematch with Fury) and I’d rather Usyk wins. I’m just willing to fight anyone. This is my 13th world title fight. So that must mean whoever’s at that level or whoever’s going to come to that level, I’m going to have to compete with. We’re all here to do a job. We’re all here as warriors to fight each other.”

Since his consecutive losses to Usyk, Joshua defeated Jermaine Franklin via unanimous decision in April 2023, Robert Helenius via 7th round KO in August 2023, Otto Wallin via RTD in the 5th in December 2023, and Francis Ngannou via 2nd round KO in March 2024.

Joshua enters this weekend’s clash with an 89.2% knockout rate as he has 25 KOs in 28 wins. However, he has also been KO’d once. Joshua has gone the distance in just five fights. Two of those were against Usyk.

Anthony Joshua Odds

Joshua opened at -550 odds to beat Dubois. Currently, those odds sit at a range of -400 to -550. These are Joshua’s biggest odds since he fought Robert Helenius 13 months ago.

In his recent fight against Ngannou, Joshua closed as a -275 to -380 favorite. He also closed as a -350 to -480 favorite against Wallin in December 2023.

Joshua has not been an underdog since his rematch with Usyk. In that fight, he closed at odds of +165 to +198. That was a drastic change from their first matchup where Joshua was as high as -280 in the bout.

Daniel Dubois Recent Fights

Before Usyk fought Fury earlier this year, he defended his three heavyweight belts against Daniel Dubois in August 2023. In fact, this bout took place just two weeks after Joshua fought Robert Helenius.

Dubois would end up losing via 9th round KO. He also lost just about every round according to all three judges. Prior to that fight, Dubois had won four bouts in a row since losing to Joe Joyce in November 2020, via 10th round KO.

Following the loss to Usyk, Dubois took on some decent challengers when he beat Jarrell Miller in December 2023, via 10th round TKO. He followed that up with an 8th round TKO against Filip Hrgovic in June 2024.

Dubois recognizes that he had a few setbacks along the way, but he’s ready to step up, resurrect his career and knockout Joshua:

“I was down and now I’m coming back up. There’s a deeper meaning to it than just me and AJ in the ring. Everything’s on the line. Who’s got the stronger will, who’s really conquered their demons and who’s really ready to move forward and I believe that’s me and I’m ready to go out there and show it. I aim to knock him out. That’s the programme. That’s the mindset, that’s the intention coming into this fight.”

Daniel Dubois Odds

Dubois’ betting odds have alternated over his last four bouts. He opened as a +370 underdog against Joshua. He’s now listed at odds between +300 to +370. In his fight against Hrgovic, Dubois was an underdog of +175 to +240 odds. Agianst Miller, Dubois was listed as the favorite with odds of -210 to -275.

As expected, Dubois was a big underdog against Usyk. He opened at +1000 and settled at +550 to +750. Usyk’s odds were -900 to -1450, which was a bit surprising. However, Dubois was thought of more highly at that point in time.

Dubois vs. Joshua Predictions

Joshua has the clear advantage in world title fight experience. He also has a four-inch reach advantage, which I believe will be a big factor in the outcome of this bout.

Joshua is the smarter fighter and more technically sound than Dubois. Sure, the latter has the knockout power to end this fight, but he doesn’t have the technical skills or the mental fortitude to go the full 12 rounds with Joshua.

I expect Joshua to use the jab, land more counters and set up Dubois to fall victim to one-sided exchanges. Joshua will win this fight and enter the lottery to challenge the winner of Usyk vs. Fury next year. Try to find Joshua at the lower range of his odds, which should be around -400.

Bet: Anthony Joshua (-450)

The Best Joshua vs. Dubois Prop Bets

The following Joshua vs. Dubois prop bets are courtesy of BetUS:

Will Fight go the distance?

  • Yes (+335)
  • No (-500)

I do not see this bout going the distance and neither do the sportsbooks. They heavily favor this contest to end inside the distance.

In 54 combined fights, these two men have gone the distance in just six bouts. Both of Dubois’ losses were via KO. Joshua also has a KO loss.

There’s no value to this prop bet, but take the No option.

Bet: No (-500)

Over/Under 7.5 rounds

  • Over 7.5 (-110)
  • Under 7.5 (-110)

Here’s where things get tough. This Over/Under is going to be close as I can see this bout ending in the middle rounds. However, let’s give Dubois a little bit of credit by taking the Over.

If he can go into the 9th round with Usyk then I see him repeating that distance with Joshua. Eventually, Joshua will end this fight due to his superior boxing skills. The other reason why I like the Over, is because it can also give us some insurance just in case the bout does go the distance.

Bet: Over 7.5 rounds (-110)

Method of Victory

  • Dubois via TKO/KO/DQ (+450)
  • Dubois via decision (+1200)
  • Joshua via TKO/KO/DQ (-225)
  • Joshua via decision (+550)
  • Draw (+1600)

As you can see from above, I have Joshua winning the fight. However, I believe it’s going to be via KO. As mentioned, Dubois has two KO losses. Both coming against top-quality opponents like Usyk. Joshua has 25 KOs in 28 wins. I expect AJ to wear down Dubois before he puts him away in the latter portions of this contest.

Bet: Joshua via TKO/KO/DQ (-225)

Round Group Betting

  • Either Winner in Rounds 1-6 (+160)
  • Either Winner in Rounds 7-12 (+120)
  • Fight to Go The Distance (+335)

Following my logic from above, I see this bout ending in Rounds 7-12. Even more specific, I like for Joshua to pick up the KO in these rounds. AJ will dismantle Dubois, tire him out and then finish him off with a knockout.

Bet: Either Winner in Rounds 7-12 (+120)
