Boxing bettors get a good one on August 10th, even though the Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Angelo Leo odds suggest a one-sided affair.
Lopez prepares for an impressive fourth title defense, but he’s proven himself to be more than a handful so far in his career (30-2). On the other side is Leo, who has just one loss on his resume and at one point held the WBO super bantamweight title.
Both boxers are in good form, but Lopez is a significant favorite, no matter which online betting sites you call home. Everyone is always in for a good upset, though, and there’s still money to be made in a variety of ways when these two fighters touch gloves.
Let’s look at the latest pricing and come away with a Lopez vs. Leo prediction.

Both of these boxers have been around for a bit, so it’s possible we get a decent bout despite the odds not suggesting as much.
Before I dive into both fighters and their respective odds, here is some quick-hitting data that can come in handy when you finalize your wager.
A quick snapshot of this bout tells us Lopez is the obvious favorite. He’s had more high level success and he’s gearing up for his fourth IBF title defense.
He also has more experience and has six more KOs, plus he’s a heavy favorite to get the win. That said, Leo is a bit taller, has longer reach, and has one less loss on his ledger than Leo does.
Recent Luis Alberto Lopez Fights and Odds
Lopez is pushing 31 years of age, but he’s still in his physical prime. He’s also in the midst of a heater, as he’s successfully defended his IBF featherweight title belt three times.
His most recent title defense came against Reiya Abe, where he scored a TKO victory.
For his other title defenses, he outlasted Joet Gonzalez and took out Michael Conlan. It’s been a really nice run, with Lopez’s last defeat coming way back in 2019.
While Lopez has two losses on his resume, nobody has knocked him out yet, and he’s been good at finishing fights early. Of his 30 career wins, 17 have come via KO, and based off of his overwhelming odds to get yet another title defense, it wouldn’t be that shocking to see him score his 18th knockout on August 10th.
Lopez has -505 odds to win at BetUS, but his price has spiked all the way up to -700 at some online sportsbooks. Both prices are absolutely staggering, so it’d take something crazy for him to lose at this point.
Recent Angelo Leo Fights and Odds
Leo is a sizable underdog, but if Lopez scores a KO it’d be Leo’s first such loss of his career. The 30-year old American known as “El Chinito” is a significant underdog, but he actually has the edge in height and reach.
He’s also been in solid form, with his last bout being a win over Eduardo Baez via Decision.
If you want to see what this kid is capable of, however, refer to the fight before that, when he knocked out Mike Plania.
That gave Leo two KO/TKO wins in his last three fights, while he reeled off four victories in a row. His most recent loss didn’t come too long ago, of course, as he dropped a Decision to Stephen Fulton in 2021.
The good news? It wasn’t a KO and that is the only loss on an otherwise pristine resume.
Leo started his professional boxing career with a 20-0 run, and he’s rebounded nicely after his lone career loss. No boxing betting sites peg him as a serious threat to stage the upset here, but his recent form and his overall career production to this point combine to make him an intriguing upset pick.
Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Angelo Leo Predictions
I am probably in the minority here, but I view Angelo Leo has a live threat for Lopez’s title run. For one, it just isn’t easy to defend your title this frequently, especially when viable challengers are being thrown your way.
Leo certainly fits the bill as a guy that shouldn’t be taken lightly, either. He’s a former WBO champion, and his only career loss was via Decision to a good boxer in Stephen Fulton.
For what it’s worth, Fulton was cruising through the boxing world when he took out Leo, and he didn’t sustain his first defeat as a pro until a TKO loss to Naoya Inoue in July of last year.
It’s also possible Leo is being overlooked due to a 2.5-year layoff as he weighed his options following his first career loss.
Whatever the case, Leo is back in the saddle and he’s looked solid with two victories this year and a perfect 3-0 run since his triumphant return.
I think he’s a good story, and an upset isn’t impossible, so taking a crack at his +355 betting odds isn’t crazy. However, Lopez is the better all-around fighter, and in a battle of wills, I fear his KO potential a bit more, and don’t see him getting sent to the canvas, either.
This one could end up being closer than anticipated, but I expect Lopez to win. Due to the egregious price tag, though, one reasonable boxing betting strategy is to take a flier on Leo as a fun upset pick, or hunt down some Lopez vs. Leo props that offer better odds.
Bet: Luis Alberto Lopez -505
Betting on Luis Alberto Lopez vs. Angelo Leo
Betting on Lopez to win straight up is a total waste of your time. His -505 odds get you nowhere, and there’s a little more risk of an upset than anyone cares to admit.
If you can find any Lopez vs. Leo prop bets, they are probably the best way to attack this title fight.
The options should range from method of victory to exact outcome. Our boxing prop bets guide details how to proceed, depending on the wager, but for the most part I’d still side with a Lopez win.
I’d just try to get a bit more granular with that bet and target the exact round or method of victory. There are not any live Lopez vs. Leo props at the moment, but they should surface eventually.
When they do, my favorite bet would be Lopez via Decision, depending on the price.
