Recent Terence Crawford Fights and Odds
Terence “Bud” Crawford hasn’t fought in a year. Not since beating Errol Spence Jr. via 9th round TKO. Bud knocked Crawford down three times in that fight before it was stopped in the 9th. It was a massive victory for Crawford and another feather in his illustrious career that’s spanned 16 years.
Prior to that victory, Crawford smashed his way through David Avanesyan via 6th round KO, Shawn Porter via 10th round TKO, Kell Brook via 4th round TKO, and Egidijus Kavaliauskas via 9th round TKO. Two of his last five bouts were against undefeated fighters.
Crawford is a three-division world champion, who is on a mission to claim a title in a fourth weight class. There’s a great chance that he eyes an instant classic fight against Canelo Alvarez next year. However, to do that, he will need to get through his undefeated, super talented opponent this weekend.
As far as the odds go, Crawford opened at -550 odds for this Saturday’s world title fight. His line has now moved to a range of -700 to -900 with boxing betting sites. These odds are more in line with his fight against Porter where Bud closed at -700 to -1250 odds.
In his bout against Spence, Crawford was a -150 favorite. Those are his lowest odds in over a decade. In fact, Pro Boxing Odds doesn’t even go back far enough to see if Bud ever had odds this tight.
Recent Israil Madrimov Fights and Odds
For Israil Madrimov, he’s making the first defense of his WBA junior middleweight title. He won the belt in March when he defeated Magomed Kurbanov via 5th round TKO.
For the Uzbekistan fighter, this week is huge for his country. Not only is Madrimov facing one of the sport’s biggest stars, but Uzbekistan will be prominently featured in the Paris Olympics boxing events this year.
The 29-year-old discussed just how big the two events are:
“The Olympics and my fight are probably equally big in Uzbekistan. The Olympics is something the whole country waits four years for. But my fight is the biggest fight any Uzbekistan fighter has been in, against a pound-for-pound No. 1, and on a big stage. I know everyone in the Uzbek boxing team. I expect them all to get medals. I train with Jalalov, Dusmatov and others.”
Madrimov has fought five times in the last three years, which is far more active than Crawford has been. In addition to the Kurbanov fight, Madrimov also beat Raphael Igbokwe via unanimous decision, Michel Sore via 9th round TKO in their first bout (second bout ended via accidental cut), and Emmany Kalomo via decision.
Madrimov opened at +370 odds and currently sits in a range of +450 to +550 depending on the sportsbook. This is the first time that he’s been an underdog. Previously, his lowest odds were -200 against Michel Soro in their first fight.
Israil Madrimov vs. Terence Crawford Predictions
Madrimov’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, shared the following assessment on this weekend’s upcoming fight:
“I think this is the toughest fight of Terence Crawford’s career; he has not been up at 154 pounds before and Madrimov is a huge puncher with a very high boxing IQ. He’s going to get hit, but if he has the toughness to come through that and take Crawford into the trenches, it will be a long night for Terence Crawford.”
Although he is biased towards his fighter, Hearn did make some good points here. Crawford is going up to a weight that he’s not accustomed to. And, he’s facing a younger, stronger fighter with a solid skillset.
Certainly, nobody in Bud’s camp is overlooking this fight, but it is one that’s more dangerous than the average boxing fan realizes.
Madrimov is mobile and accurate with his punches. His power is certainly something that Crawford has to watch out for. He also has less mileage than many of Crawford’s precious opponents. In fact, Bud has had four-times as many fights as the Uzbekistani boxer.
With that said, I do believe Crawford’s overall skillset will be more than enough to win him this fight. For as many positive attributes that Madrimov has, he is not on Crawford’s level of striking and IQ. Crawford’s slickness and accuracy will do some damage. Madrimov has never faced a fighter like Crawford before. This is a step up in competition, and one that he won’t win.
I’m taking Crawford to pick up the victory this weekend and remain undefeated as he heads toward a potential showdown with Canelo next year. As for the method of victory, you will have to keep on reading below.
Bet: Terence Crawford (-900)
The Israil Madrimov vs. Terence Crawford Prop Bets
The following Israil Madrimov vs. Terence Crawford prop bets are courtesy of BetUS:
Over/Under 10.5 rounds
- Over 10.5 (-110)
- Under 10.5 (-125)
The Over/Under for this fight is set at 10.5 rounds, which translates to the 1:30 minute mark of Round 11.
For Madrimov, he’s only ever gone Over this mark on one occasion. Crawford has reached this feat on four occasions, which is just 10% of his total fights. With that said, I like the Over as this fight is going to be a tight one.
Bet: Over 10.5 (-110)
Will Fight go the distance?
- Yes (+150)
- No (-200)
Crawford has gone the distance in just nine of his 40 pro fights, while Madrimov in three of his 11 pro fights. So, you can see why the odds heavily favor this bout ending inside the distance.
For Crawford, he’s finished off 11 straight opponents inside the distance. However, I think moving up in weight against a strong, powerful puncher is going to lead to a more calculated approach and a points victory. Keep in mind, Madrimov is a mobile, bigger fighter who’s naturally built for this division. I don’t see either fighter getting the stoppage.
Bet: Yes (+150)
Method of Victory
- Madrimov via TKO/KO/DQ (+900)
- Madrimov via decision (+1100)
- Crawford via TKO/KO/DQ (-150)
- Crawford via decision (+200)
- Draw (+1800)
As mentioned above, I like for this fight to go the distance. I think both men have enough boxing skills to make this more of a chess match than a firefight. Plus, I don’t see either man wanting to risk taking frequent power shots.
This leaves us with the decision options. And, since I believe in Crawford’s ability to win this fight, I’m taking Bud via decision (+200). There’s some nice value with this betting option.
Bet: Crawford via decision (+200)
Group Round Betting
- Israil Madrimov To Win In Rounds 1-4 (+5000)
- Israil Madrimov To Win In Rounds 5-8 (+2200)
- Israil Madrimov To Win In Rounds 9-12 (+2000)
- Israil Madrimov To Win By Decision (+1100)
- Terence Crawford To Win In Rounds 1-4 (+900)
- Terence Crawford To Win In Rounds 5-8 (+300)
- Terence Crawford To Win In Rounds 9-12 (+250)
- Terence Crawford To Win By Decision (+200)
- Draw or Technical Draw (+1800)
As mentioned above, I like for Crawford to win this fight via decision. I believe Madrimov is a threat, but he will be neutralized by Crawford’s six-inch reach advantage, jab, and angles. I don’t see Crawford willingly testing Madrimov’s power.
Bet: Terrance Crawford via decision (+200)
Either Winner Group Round Betting
- Either Winner In Rounds 1-6 (+375)
- Either Winner In Rounds 7-12 (+125)
- Fight To Go The Distance (+150)
If you want to hedge your bets above, for the fight to go the distance, then this is the perfect prop bet for it. Since these two men have combined for 38 knockouts in 51 total fights, it’s easy for people to want to jump on the bout ending inside the distance.
If that’s you, then take a look at either winner in Rounds 7-12. The first portion of the fight will be a feeling out process. That means we’re looking at the middle rounds before things get more intense. By time someone gets into trouble, if at all, it would probably be in the latter rounds of the fight.
Bet: Either Winner In Rounds 7-12 (+125)
