The NBA All-Star Weekend is packed with action, featuring thrilling events such as the Dunk Contest, 3-Point Contest, Rising Stars Challenge, and the highly anticipated NBA All-Star Game. This year’s game introduces a unique format with four teams battling for supremacy. The NBA was apparently worried that fans and players were losing interest in the traditional East vs. West All-Star format. So, Adam Silver did what Adam Silver does and changed it. This year’s event will be comprised of 4 smaller rosters duking it out in a small tournament. The 2 teams that win their first-round matchups will square off in the championship round.
3 of the teams will be comprised of the 24 players voted in as All-Stars. The 4th team will be the winner of Friday night’s Rising Stars Challenge, which features the same 4-team format. Rather than using timed quarters or halves, the first team to score 40 points will win automatically.

NBA All-Star Game Starters and Reserves
As mentioned, the All-Stars are divided into 3 different teams, while the 4th team in the event will be the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge. TNT analysts Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny “The Jet” Smith drafted their teams back on February 6th. WNBA legend Candace Parker will serve as the general manager of whichever team wins the Rising Stars event.
This is a 4-team tournament, and the teams have interestingly been divided into unique groups. Team Candace – helmed by legend Candace Parker – will be whichever of the teams emerges victorious from the Rising Stars Challenge.
The other 3 teams are All-Star rosters divided into groups. Team Shaq is an impressive group of older legends. Team Chuck is a team comprised mostly of international superstars, while Team Kenny features a younger crop of All-Stars.
Let’s dive into the odds and rosters:
Team Shaq (+180)
LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, James Harden, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving (replacing the injured Anthony Davis)
Team Chuck (+180)

Team Kenny (+290)

Team Candace (+800)
Winner of the Rising Stars Challenge.
NBA All-Star Game Preview
Let’s take a closer look at the teams participating in the NBA All-Star Game:
Team Shaq
Featuring a loaded roster of MVP-caliber players, Team Shaq boasts legendary experience. LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry bring firepower, while Jayson Tatum and Kyrie Irving add versatility. If they take the game seriously, they will be tough to stop. Every single one of those players has an All-Star Game MVP trophy on his mantle at home, so that experience could come in handy here.
That said, is a team of future Hall-of-Famers and established superstars the most likely to take this event seriously? It’s debatable. Guys like LeBron and Steph could certainly be out to prove that they still have plenty left in the tank, so I think they’re a worthy co-favorite at +180. With that said, this team has more NBA Champions on it than the other three teams combined.
Team Chuck
A squad filled with international superstars, Team Chuck relies on Nikola Jokic’s elite playmaking. However, the absence of the injured Giannis Antetokounmpo won’t help. This team potentially could’ve put Jokic, Giannis, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Victor Wembanyama all on the floor together, which would’ve been a complete nightmare of a matchup for the opposition.
While Jokic’s presence would be enough to make this team a favorite in a more realistic format, I’m not sure Jokic’s game translates super well to the defense-optional All-Star Tournament. They are still quite versatile, however, and this team easily boasts the most size of any in the competition. With no shortage of shot-blocking and rebounding, they’ll still be tough to stop.
Team Kenny
While Team Kenny is the weakest in terms of overall talent of the 3 All-Star rosters, this younger group could also be feisty and out to prove that they belong. Anthony Edwards will spearhead things offensively, while Jaren Jackson Jr. and Evan Mobley are both capable rim protectors. However, we’ll see if defense actually comes into play. That usually isn’t a huge priority, though perhaps this format could ramp up the intensity.
That youthful energy could prove to be an asset, which makes them a viable long-shot wager at +290. It’s an All-Star Game, after all.
Team Candace (+800)
As the wild card, Team Candace faces an uphill battle. Being a mix of Rising Stars players, they will need an incredible effort to contend with the established All-Stars. Motivation should be no issue for whichever young team eventually advances to the main event, but they’ll be at a serious disadvantage against any team of established NBA stars.
NBA All-Star Game Predictions
With so much star power, this year’s competition could be one of the most competitive in recent history. Perhaps the new format will breathe life into an event that’s been lacking in that regard in recent years.
While each team certainly has a shot, Team Shaq is our NBA Pick to win the All-Star Game due to its combination of experience and raw talent. The addition of younger stars like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown only makes them more formidable, so I think they’re the best bet of the bunch even as favorites.
Bet: Team Shaq (+180)
