No division in the NBA was rocked more at the trade deadline than the Pacific Division. Two of the five teams made major moves that included franchise players, while the other teams shook up their rosters by moving around key role players at the deadline or midseason mark.
As the dust begins to settle on the Western Conference’s most chaotic division, the odds have dramatically shifted on which team will win the Pacific. Currently, the Los Angeles Clippers are the betting favorites to win as they hold a slight lead over the Los Angeles Lakers.
However, the Phoenix Suns, who opened the season as the favorites, are well-behind both LA teams. Additionally, the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings are now the longshots in the Pacific and are fighting just to make the NBA Play-In Tournament. In fact, they’ve both have pretty much been written off from NBA Championship contention.
With that said, let’s take a look at the latest NBA Pacific Division odds, courtesy of the best sports betting sites, and make our NBA predictions on which team will win the Pacific Division.
2024-25 NBA Pacific Division Odds
NBA Team | Division Odds | February Odds |
---|---|---|
Phoenix Suns | +225 | +1000 |
Sacramento Kings | +300 | +2500 |
Los Angeles Lakers | +350 | +120 |
Golden State Warriors | +450 | +2200 |
Los Angeles Clippers | +550 | +115 |
A few weeks prior to the NBA trade deadline, the Kings were +900 to win the division. They’ve fallen to +2500 after trading Fox to the Spurs. The Lakers have seen their odds cut in half after acquiring Luka Doncic from the Mavericks. The Warriors, like the Kings, saw their odds go from +350 to +2200.
The Suns were the favorites at the start of the season, but they’re now well behind both teams in Los Angeles. Despite opening as the longshot in the division, the Clippers now sit as the betting favorites as we approach the All-Star break.
NBA Pacific Division Teams
Let’s take a closer look at the following NBA Teams competing in the Pacific Division:
Los Angeles Clippers
Although they didn’t make any earth-shattering moves like the Kings and Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers have quietly gone about their season and have become a solid unit.
Numerous players have stepped up in a season where oddsmakers opened up the year picking the Clips to finish last in the Pacific Division. Yet, guys like Ivica Zubac and Norman Powell have exceeded all expectations to put up career-defining numbers.
Powell leads the team with 24.1 ppg. Zubac is averaging a double-double at 15.3 ppg and 12.7 rebounds per game. He’s been a force in the paint on a nightly basis.
Of course, James Harden is still putting up solid numbers as well. The talented guard is averaging 21.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game.
The Clips recently saw Kawhi Leonard return from missing the first half of the season due to injuries. He’s ramping up his playing time and has already flashed signs of his brilliance.
As of this writing, the Clips are just one game back of the Lakers for the division lead. They also made a smaller move before the trade deadline to shed players and add quality depth. In particular, the Clippers got rid of PJ Tucker who had not played a game this season and brought back Drew Eubanks to fill in behind Zubac.
If this team can play the final few months of the regular season at full health, they could take the division. But that’s always a big “if” and let’s not even discuss their postseason failures. That is a discussion for another day.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers turned the league upside down on February 1, after making a historic trade. At the center of the deal was Anthony Davis being shipped to the Dallas Mavericks for perennial NBA MVP candidate Luka Doncic.
In addition to dealing Davis, the Lakers also shipped out Max Christie and a 2029 first round pick. Dallas sent Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to LA along with Doncic.
This trade signaled that no player is untouchable or unmovable. Doncic was considered the face of the franchise in Dallas. Shipping him out for Davis and role players was a shock to the entire NBA ecosystem.
With that said, there are a number of questions surrounding the Lakers now. At the forefront is how James and Doncic can play alongside each other. Both players have expressed a desire to play with one another, but the Lakers now have a massive void in the paint.
Currently, Los Angeles sits on top of the Pacific Division with a one game lead over the Clippers. Yet, they’ve played two less games.
This team has two incredible players in Doncic and James. They also have some talented role players in Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. Yet, Reaves’ role is now in question with Doncic’s arrival. Does this team really have enough talent and depth to compete with the Clippers and Suns in the Pacific Division?
Phoenix Suns
Speaking of the Phoenix Suns, they have been a disappointment up to the mid-point mark of the season. However, the team has gone 9-4 over the last month and appear to have turned things around.
The Suns made some drastic moves to their starting five, which have been a catalyst to this team. Phoenix benched Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkic as they decided to shake up their starting unit.
Beal still plays significant minutes off the bench, but Nurkic barely sees the floor on most nights. Tyus Jones and Ryan Dunn have been getting more action with the starting unit.
Additionally, the Suns made a trade that could be huge for them down the stretch. They sent Josh Okogie and a few second-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets for Nick Richards who is now the starting center for Phoenix.
Prior to heading to Phoenix, Richards was averaging 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game over 21 minutes per game. Since coming to Phoenix, Richards has been averaging more playing time and it’s showing up in the stats. If they can get the big man up to speed with the team, he could turn out to be a huge steal for the Suns.
As of this writing, the Suns sit 3.5 games back of the Lakers. There’s value with the Suns’ odds of +1000 considering their talent (Kevin Durant, Devin Booker) and well over 30 games left to play.
Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors currently sit last in the Pacific Division at 24-24. They’re just 1-9 in the division as of this writing. The Warriors are in desperate need of adding more playmakers to this team but just lost out on a big trade target in Zach Lavine.
The Warriors were in talks with the Bulls for a potential Lavine trade. However, Golden State was not willing to trade Andrew Wiggins who is their second leading scorer and top two-way player.
The Warriors have found themselves desperately looking for young players to step up. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. The team heads into the trade deadline having gone 3-4 and getting blown out more times than we are used to seeing from a Curry-led team.
Speaking of Curry, the surefire HOF is still putting up solid numbers, but he’s currently averaging only 22.1 ppg which is his lowest average since 2011-12. We aren’t counting the 2019-20 season where he only played five games.
The Warriors are in trouble and could be in danger of missing the Playoffs. It will be interesting to see if they swing for the fences to add pieces to their roster by the trade deadline. Would it be enough to make them more competitive in the division?
Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings are tied with the Warriors but sit one spot ahead of them due to having a better record in the division and head-to-head.
Like the Lakers and Mavs, the Kings created a massive buzz by trading franchise stalwart De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team deal.
The Kings shipped out De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin to the Spurs, while sending Kevin Huerter to the Chicago Bulls. In return, Sacramento received Zach Lavine, Sidy Cissoko and a half dozen draft picks.
Lavine actually fills a big need for the Kings on the wing. Additionally, he can shoot and create his own shot. With the stellar play of Malik Monk, since entering the starting lineup, Fox saw himself off the ball more. And that’s not a good fit for Fox or the team.
Ultimately, Fox’s declaration that he wouldn’t sign a long-term deal was the tipping point in sending the team’s franchise player. Now, they will hope that Lavine can slide into the starting five and add a scoring punch desperately needed. He played alongside Derozan in Chicago over the last few years, which could help the Kings as well.
It’s entirely possible that Sacramento makes another move based on the current construction of their roster and all the picks they now have. If not, then this team will lean heavily on Monk to run the show and Ellis along with Carter to be the backup point guard.
At just 4.5 games back of the Lakers, it’s hard to see how the Kings would be +2500 longshots. If your risk tolerance is high, this could be a lucrative flier.
NBA Pacific Division Predictions
When it comes to making NBA picks for the Pacific Division, you can throw out whatever your thoughts were at the beginning of the season. In fact, you can toss out whatever your predictions were at the beginning of 2025.
As of this writing, all five teams have made notable roster moves during the season with the Lakers and Kings dramatically changing their franchises. Even the Suns have modified their roster enough to seem like a different team.
The Warriors and Clippers might be further behind when it comes to changing their rosters, but they have made smaller moves that have helped. However, are these moves enough to make them contenders in the division?
We need a few weeks to see how the Lakers and Kings look following their big trades. Sacramento appears to be better positioned to handle the change than Los Angeles does. They already had a player to replace Fox in the starting five. It’s going to be interesting to see how LA replaces the loss of Davis.
I think the Kings are worthy of a flier. However, the smart play here is the Suns. I don’t trust that the Clippers will remain healthy enough to win the division. Additionally, they’re notorious for resting players prior to the Playoffs.
I like the Suns’ addition of Richards and bringing Beale off the bench. At +1000 odds, there’s plenty of value with Phoenix as well. Of course, this could all change after the All-Star break depending on injuries and trades.
Bet: Phoenix Suns (+1000)
