What Is The NFL Combine?

The NFL Scouting Combine is an annual event where top college football players undergo a series of physical and mental tests. These evaluations include athletic drills such as the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, bench press, team interviews, and the Wonderlic test.

Performance at the Combine can significantly impact a player’s draft stock, making it a crucial event for both players and teams. Over the years, we’ve seen players improve or tank their draft stock based on Combine performance. While not every top prospect will participate in the Combine, it is still where the vast majority of future NFL stars gather to try and show off their physical gifts.

When Is The NFL Combine?

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine will take place from February 25 to March 3, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. This year’s event will feature more live coverage than ever, with NFL Network and ESPN providing analysis and real-time coverage of top workouts.

NFL Combine Predictions

NFL Combine Vertical Jump

  • Over 43.75 Inches (-120)
  • Under 43.75 Inches (-120)

The vertical jump measures lower-body explosiveness, and every year, we see elite athletes put up eye-popping numbers.

The NFL Draft Combine record still stands at 46 inches, set by former journeyman safety Gerald Sensabaugh in 2005. Sensabaugh broke the previous record by a half-inch, and he was ultimately drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 5th round. He went on to play 8 seasons in the NFL.

Former Dallas Cowboys first-round pick Byron Jones nearly broke Sensabaugh’s record back in 2015, coming to within half an inch of Sensabaugh’s mark.

With the increasing level of athleticism in modern training programs, an athlete surpassing 43.75 inches is very possible. That said, it’s somewhat difficult to imagine that Sensabaugh’s record is still standing nearly 20 years later.

In 2024, 4 different players reached 42.5 inches in this event. Jalen Coker, Malik Washington, Daequan Hardy, and Elijah Jones all hit that mark, while Ricky Pearsall and Andru Phillips both checked in with 42-inch verticals.

Look for a wide receiver or defensive back to test well here. These are typically the most athletic players at the combine, and having a healthy vertical is crucial when it comes to finding success at the NFL level. This will be the year Sensabaugh’s long-standing record finally falls.

Bet: Over 43.75 Inches (-120)

NFL Combine Broad Jump

  • Over 138.5 Inches (-120)
  • Under 138.5 Inches (-120)

The broad jump is a key measure of lower-body power and explosiveness, particularly for positions like edge rushers and cornerbacks. In recent years, multiple prospects have pushed the 140-inch mark, making this an exciting prop bet to monitor.

The record in this event is held by Byron Jones, who we mentioned in the previous category, as well. Jones jumped 12 feet, 3 inches in the broad jump, which actually set a new world record by a full inch. Jones crushed the previous NFL Combine record by a whopping 8 inches!

147 inches is still the record, though Texas Tech safety Tyler Owens came close last year. Owens recorded a broad jump of 146 inches, which was 10 inches more than any other player in last year’s event. Max Melton and Adonai Mitchell finished tied for 2nd at 136 inches each.

While I’m doubtful that any player will top Jones’ incredible record in 2025, I do think we can find someone to top the over/under of 138.5 inches. It won’t be easy, but I like the over here, too.

Bet: Over 138.5 Inches (-120)

Fastest 40-Yard Dash

  • Over 4.275 Seconds (-120)
  • Under 4.275 Seconds (-120)

The 40-yard dash is the most anticipated event at the Combine, with scouts and fans looking to see if a new record will be set. The all-time record was recently broken by Xavier Worthy in 2024, who clocked an incredible 4.21 seconds, surpassing John Ross’s previous record of 4.22 seconds set in 2017.

Speed is perhaps the most sought-after skill in the NFL these days. Worthy and Ross both parlayed their excellent showings at the Combine into first-round selections. Ross went to the Cincinnati Bengals, while Worthy was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. The latter went on to enjoy a standout rookie year for the AFC champions, while Ross never amounted to much at the NFL level.

Clemson cornerback Nate Williams posted the 2nd-fastest time in the 40 last season at 4.28 seconds. Brian Thomas, Isaac Guerendo, and Quinyon Mitchell all posted times of 4.33, while Decamerion Richardson and Adonai Mitchell weren’t far behind at 4.34 seconds.

Recording a time faster than 4.275 seconds wouldn’t be fast enough to break Worthy’s new record, but it would still rank among the speediest 40 times ever recorded at the Combine.

While this year’s class includes some blazing-fast wide receivers and defensive backs, breaking 4.21 seconds is a tall order.

However, an underdog could shock the field with a lightning-fast run. I think betting the over is the better bet here, especially considering anything in the neighborhood of 4.2 seconds is truly rarefied air. Plus, the -120 odds you get on the over are rhe same as they are on the under.

Bet: Over 4.275 Seconds (-120)

Fastest Time by an Offensive Lineman

  • Over 4.855 Seconds (-120)
  • Under 4.855 Seconds (-120)

In recent years, offensive linemen have been running faster 40-yard dash times than ever before. The record for an O-lineman in this event belongs to Terron Armstead, who clocked in at a swift 4.71 seconds way back in 2013. Armstead eventually went to the New Orleans Saints with the 75th overall pick that year.

Lane Johnson (4.72), Trent Williams (4.81), Aviante Collins (4.81), and Brian O’Neill (4.82) have all come fairly close, but Armstead’s record still stands.

Roger Rosengarten, who just enjoyed a terrific rookie season for the Baltimore Ravens, paced all offensive linemen in last year’s Combine by running the 40 in 4.92 seconds last year. Frank Crum (4.94), Tylan Grable (4.95), and Gottlieb Ayedze (5.01) were all quick, as well.

With the way modern offensive linemen train, there’s a strong chance someone in the 2025 class runs below 4.855 seconds. Speed isn’t necessarily a crucial skill for an O-lineman, but I do think we will see one finish the 40 in under 4.855 seconds this year.

Bet: Under 4.855 Seconds (-120)

NFL Combine and Draft Outlook

While the NFL Draft Combine is a showcase of raw athleticism, teams will also be focusing on how prospects perform in team interviews and positional drills. As the draft approaches, keep an eye on how these numbers influence draft stock. Some players will solidify themselves as top picks, while others could see their stock slide based on poor performances.
